This tea was exceptional today because I got a large pineapple chunk in my scoop. I might have overleafed a bit as well because the pineapple chunk was so large. I also added a little rock sugar which added the perfect amount of sweetness. So delicious. Good thing I still have quite a bit of this because I would never want to run out of it
Side note: I previously did not like oolongs cold, but lately, I have been craving iced tea so much. So, I started trying oolongs chilled after brewing hot, resteeping, and combining both steeps to chill in the fridge.
On to this tea, I now also enjoy this cold as well as hot. Delicious, and it seems a little sweeter cold.

My Butiki order arrived today! So excited, I ripped open the box immediately and started my kettle. I could smell the pineapple right when I ripped open the box. Oh wow, this is gonna be good!
4 minutes seems like it isn’t a long time, but waiting for this tea to steep, it seemed like an eternity…..the smell is intoxicating.
Sip….WOW!!!! I am transported back to Hawaii, sitting on the beach eating fresh, sweet pineapple and ice cream…the waves rolling in and the sand in between my toes….ah….
This tea is super fresh pineapple, sweet, and so natural. Then the oolong makes an appearance, not vegetal, but silky and smooth. At the end of the sip, I get a flowery note.
Resteep- 85 degrees, 5 minutes: more oolong coming through, and the pineapple isn’t as strong. The floral notes are still there. Still amazing!
Edit: I had put the last few sips of each steep in the fridge to chill. As much as I like this tea hot, I don’t like it as much cold. There is just something about oolong that I don’t like cold.
Preparation
Hmmmm dare I try another butiki oolong though they haven’t been full of as
Much “win” as their others….
Stacy – thanks for letting me know. :) totally worth a try then heh you charmer you, twist my rubber arm why dont ya?
**backlogging from last night
I am so glad that I purchased this from Butiki. It was really purchased on a whim as I’d never tried it before. But I love lavender & I’ve grown to love chamomile lately. So it seemed like a tea worth trying out!
At first I was concerned that because lavender & chamomile are both very strong flavors that they would compete with one another, but I learned quickly that I was very incorrect in that.
The liquor of this tea was a lovely golden color and the aroma was absolutely mouthwatering. I added just a touch of honey since it pairs so well with chamomile & sunk into my cup. The lavender and chamomile pair perfectly, complimenting one another beautifully. Neither overpowered the other, they just danced in sync across my tastebuds. It was a very soft tea & I think I might like this even more than chamomile on its own!
Preparation
Brew temp 208
I have too many teas.
That must be the reason that I don’t drink this delicious tea every day. I’ve had many different chocolate teas before-and even chocolate raspberry teas before and this is the only chocolate tea that I have ever had that has actual chocolate chips in it! And this has real raspberries too.
The Kundaly Nilgiri base fuses well with the chocolate and the raspberry. You can taste all the flavors. I have no idea what the natural flavoring is, but it is definitely very natural tasting. The tea is sweet-as you would expect in this type of blend-but not cloying. It tastes great plain, but a teaspoon or so of sweetener (like rock sugar) enhances the flavors very nicely. Of course it is very smooth and has zero bitterness or astringency. Chocolate and raspberry is a kind of classic flavor combination to me-something that I would always come back to over time. I’m sure that I’ll be buying this in the future after my current batch runs out. Excellent.
Preparation
The mint is indeed very intense. It actually cools my mouth, even with the tea being hot.
I cannot get over how huge the leaves are!!! Amazing. A very light brew and if you need to freshen your mouth after a meal, this is one to reach for. My only problem is that it is so minty (and I do love minty things) that it reminds me of the dentist. I won’t keep it on hand but I’m glad I got to try this sample. I think it is a quality tea, but not for me.
And now I am out of new teas to sample. Until my Harney order comes in, anyway… So much for clearing out the cupboard. I couldn’t help it. It looked so empty…
Preparation
Yum! Creamy, definitely pistachio. Such interesting leaves – thin and long. Looks almost like rosemary rather than tea. More body than I’m used to finding in green tea. This could well make it into my regular rotation. Delicious.
Preparation
I’m sure I oversteeped this but it tastes really good despite that :D
Looks like we’re both having Butiki Tea days! :) In other news…my notices button isn’t working..BOO!
hehe, I have Butiki Teas and David’s Tea than bagged stuff. Most David’s Tea give my Mom a migraine so that leaves Butiki Teas not that I mind since Butiki Teas stuff is awesome :D I hope your notices button starts working again :D
This is amazing. I rarely find greens I want to keep in my stash. This is one.
Smells of sweet, heavenly pineapple. Almost more like juice than the fresh fruit, which is just fine. The tea leaves are super huge when they unfold.
Pale, pale yellow with a taste that lives up to the smell. Such a rarity. :)
This goes on the list to buy more. I can see I’ll go through this pretty quickly. Plus, I have to have some to share!
Preparation
The last of this tea in my cupboard and while tasty it wasn’t very lemony especially when compared to Good Morning Sunshine (yes I AM a fangirl of the Good Morning Sunshine) so that’s probably why Stacy stopped making this one. Still a really good tea though and perfect before bed :D
Preparation
This is really tasty. The list of oolongs from Butiki Teas that I like most in order are: Peach, Grape then Strawberry :D Peach is still reigning supreme :D Dry this one smells like really good grape juice :D
What water temp are you using for these? Aproximate unless you happen to have a thermometer to stick in it lol :)
lol just a variable kettle from Adagio but it doesn’t tell me what temp just “green tea” or “black tea” generalizations so I guess :D I put it closer to the black tea area for this one. Green teaish for the peach and I can’t remember for the strawberry :D
thanks! haha I need to get either a variable temp kettle or the breville tea maker heh. Really just a matter of how big to splurge :)
one day when I have money a more accurate kettle will be the first thing I buy :D Then a breville one touch, and the milk steamer :D
First off thank you to Stacy for this sample :)
I’ve never had tamarind anything before, so I thought a tamarind tea might be pretty interesting. It definitely was! The aroma in my little sample bag was sweet… vanilla… cookies… but with an interesting sharper note beneath it. It smelled intriguing.
After pulling my teaball out of my cup, the resulting cup was surprisingly sour! I know that that is a characteristic of tamarind and I recalled Stacy’s note saying to add some sugar to it. I ended up sweetening it more than I would normally have done in order to remove the sourness, but once I did it was a completely different tea. The caramel, vanilla and cacao notes described came forward & while it was still a very unusual tea, the sugar really made it shine for me. The more I sip on my cup, the more I like this tea. At first I thought “well it’s good, but probably not something I would drink often” but as I’m nearing the end of my cup I think that I could see myself drinking it more often than I imagined :)
Preparation
Having a tasty cup right now as it’s a perfect cup before bed.
