This is a really lovely Genmaicha – thanks to TeaEqualsBliss for sending it my way.

Sweet, toasty, and delicious. I love the roasted rice flavor of Genmaicha, it reminds me of my favorite part of rice when I cook it, the part that gets slightly caramelized at the bottom of the pan in my rice steamer… sweet, a little crispy … just YUM! Combine that with the flavor of the sweet, vegetative taste of green tea. Just lovely.

I bought this for a friend. Had a cup before giving it to her. I think it’s a very nice subtle tea. The fragrance is wonderful. The tea itself has a more floral taste with a bit of fruit and end on a chocolate note. The chocolate is not overwhelming it really warms the flavor of the tea. I like it and might buy it to add to my chocolate tea collection.

The smell of the dry leaves is worth the price of admission – the apricots and buttered popcorn scent is strong. The tea is bolder than other oolongs. I’ll have to try a shorter steeping time.

I got this tea as a end of finals present to myself. I can legitimately say I looked more forward to trying this tea than I did seeing my family over the holidays.

It really met all my expectations. Creamy with notes of white chocolate and peppermint – and not too dense, considering the ingredients. My only wish for this tea is that they made an herbal version next year – it’s such a good dessert tea but I don’t like having too much caffeine before bed.

Haha, wouldn’t think I’d find this tea here considering I got it from a local little tearoom in Canterbury! Actually discovered this during our Tea Society’s Christmas social where we had a “mystery tea tasting” competition: usually we are all served a little of a tea without knowing what kind it is or what’s in it and have to guess, but this time round, we were given a scorecard… And my team won ;) all because I guessed “peony” for this one, prominent as it is in Coquelicot Gourmand, I’ve come to recognise it in other places too.

And wow, did the flavours surprise me at first! Plenty of people said the aroma was like cherries, maybe cherry bakewell tart (with wild cherries it almost smells like… cough syrup? still delicious!); I found it tasted very much like frangipane, or almonds, or maybe amaretto, as well as rose and peony, but I couldn’t guess chilli at all.

This time round, brewing it at home, I was so fascinated by the miniscule chillies and rosebuds in the loose-leaf tea that I decided to use one of the tiny chillies in my brew. Big mistake. I’m terrible with spiciness. This absolutely burns on the way down, but only while I’m actually drinking it. All the other beautiful flavours are still there though! Cherry, still some marzipan there, peony, with a very smooth, fruity sip as though the chilli had never been there in the first place.

I definitely, definitely recommend giving this try if you can, it’s a really unique experience. I might just toss out all the chillies in my bag of this so I don’t burn my mouth off though!

This has quickly become one of my favorite teas! It is smooth and has soft vanilla flavors. I currently steep this at 195 F, and leave the leaves in the teapot until I’m finished drinking the tea.

Initially, the fruity hints of citrus are pleasing. After a moment though, there is an overwhelming bitterness that seems somewhat out of place and unexpected. With a hint of sugar, it takes on a more “tropical” note as the fruity flavors are given a longer lasting impression on the palette.

This is a sipdown… I’ve had this tea for a long time too, so it isn’t as fresh as it used to be, though I’ve still been enjoying it. Yesterday I put this in the fridge overnight so I could have it as a cold brew. I like it iced, the fruity flavors are refreshing. I don’t think this will be a repurchase for me anytime soon but it’s pretty good. So many other teas to try!

This tea ended up being my cold brew experiment of the day. It makes a pretty good cold brew but I think I prefer it hot. Cold, the papaya and green tea notes really seem to pop out and I don’t get a lot of strawberry. Definitely serves the purpose of refreshing me on this sunny day and maybe will wake me up gently (as I just got up from a nap!)

I haven’t had this tea for a while but Capital Teas does some pretty unique blends. I like the combo of black & green tea with the strawberry and papaya, though it is a little difficult to know exactly how long to steep this for. I am finding it slightly tart and refreshing, might need to try doing this one as an iced tea. I should get some more of their blends someday.

I don’t quite understand why they make green and black tea blends. It’s like knowing in advance your tea can’t be brewed properly, so the only way to go is in between for time and temperature wise but then your green tea is likely to be bitter and the black won’t develop the way it should. Having said that, I’m glad that you seem to have found your sweet spot with it :-)
(the flavouring probably helps to hide whatever flaws there might be )

yeah my strategy with them is to use water that is not quite boiling and it turns out fine, never had a problem with bitterness or flavor.

Tea of the morning here, somehow I felt like something light and green. :)

This is not for purists, it’s a blend of green and black tea with strawberry and papaya. The papaya makes it a tiny bit tart on your tongue and the strawberry is present but not overpowering. I’m not picking up on much sweetness and am even tempted to add a touch of sugar. I had this iced over the summer and I think it’s really good that way. I like it a little less when it’s hot but it’s still fairly tasty and refreshing.

I have enjoyed it but not sure I will need anymore when this supply runs out.

So apparently I’ve never rated this one…even if I’ve had it several times… Amy oh’s review from yesterday reminded me I had this tea. I knew it was going to be my tea of the morning. I had planned to get up at my usual time (even on my surprise day off – due to an excellent conference) but I eased into my day and slept a half an hour later (living the life I know).

But I took my time getting ready for the day = internet. Then I gathered the laundry to start, showered, etc. FINALLY I got the kettle going and had to do a little digging to find this one. I have to say it reminds me of coffee in both smell and taste. But not in a bad way. More like welcome back to a better way to have that caffeine kick. I did add a little soy creamer to this one and some of the amazing Vanilla Sugar from Penzey’s – which is mine and mine alone in the house!

I do get a lot of the pu-erh in this tea even with the additions to it. BUT I think the suger is finally allowing the caramel toffee flavor to shine here. I seem to taste the pu-erh more on the finish this time around rather than right from the start. A really nice way to start my lovely day off.

I felt like this pu-erh might wake me up this afternoon, but evidently I was so sleepy that I accidentally made it on the green tea setting and had to go back and do it again a 2nd time. This isn’t my favorite flavored pu-erh but it has a nice sort of dessert type flavor. I’m not sure I would characterize it as toffee, it seems a bit more on the side of chocolate.

Anyway, I need to rally because I have a class in managing marketing communications that starts this evening It goes on for 10 weeks! I hope I learn a lot.

This tea was a recent one I scored at the trip to Capitol Teas In Washington DC. I’ve had it a couple of times now and I’m not quite sure what I think of it. It smells better than it tastes, in my opinion. There is definitely an aroma of toffee but the flavor doesn’t translate as well. To me it doesn’t seem that rich and decadent…

Unlike a lot of flavored pu-erhs, you can actually taste the pu-erh in here though and it’s very rich and smooth. I added some soymilk and liked it better than way. hmm. I bet this would be really good as a latte.

And I hope I can sleep tonight after drinking this so late!

I had the same problem you did with the toffee flavoring not turning up in my cup. But I too added in some soy and that did help it along a bit.

Tea of the late morning here; I love this fruity and smoky cuppa on a rainy day like today.

I just looked at the bottom of the tin and not only is this tea named after the War of 1812 but evidently I also paid $18.12 for it at the store. Clever!

Wow, this stuff is interesting. So I’m from Maryland and being a nerd I had to have a tea commemorating the War of 1812! Plus I like smoky teas but really wasn’t sure what this would taste like with the fruit.

Well, I like it! A blend of smoky black and green teas, a bit herbaly, lots of fruit. This is a very unique blend and delicious. I will to write more about it when I have some time! A+

AHAHAHA! I hear that. Also: hibiscus. GROSS. Me, I’d keep en entire file called ‘Teas and tisanes utterly ruined by hibiscus." One actually angers me: Numi’s Ruby Darjeeling, or something like that. Take hard-to-get Darjeeling … and blend it with hibiscus. Just — no. The liquor looks like BLOOD in the cup.
