This has quickly become one of my favorite teas! It is smooth and has soft vanilla flavors. I currently steep this at 195 F, and leave the leaves in the teapot until I’m finished drinking the tea.

Initially, the fruity hints of citrus are pleasing. After a moment though, there is an overwhelming bitterness that seems somewhat out of place and unexpected. With a hint of sugar, it takes on a more “tropical” note as the fruity flavors are given a longer lasting impression on the palette.

Tea of the afternoon here…

I have been seriously neglecting my tea log which is kind of a shame. Last night I was watching the storm coverage on CNN so I hope all the East Coast Steepsters are ok!

see previous notes for more info

Bonnie

I was glued to the set too (especially now that the Giants won the World Series and my family is quiet again!).

TeaBrat

We have the Giants parade tomorrow, it will be total mayhem!

Bonnie

Jay Leno said on the Tonight Show that your (SF) idea of celebrating will be to have a yoga instructor lead everyone in deep breathing exercises. Ha Ha. How rude! Expected from the wrong side of California though.

Bonnie

Sorry people who live in L.A. Steepsters are not included in that comment! It’s a friendly Giants/Dodgers feud jab.

Sare

i have been too dont feel bad! with the storm Hitting here and all just have not been Able to get online and all Got power back but now its back to work! lol

TeaBrat

@Bonnie – lmao! There are people lined up all over Market Street who started drinking at 8 am… it will be mayhem!

This is one of those nice nondescript black teas that are just flat good to drink; no one aspect asserts itself, but you look at your cup five minutes later and it’s gone. Just slips right past you comfortably.

Not a huge wake-up kick, but (for once) I didn’t need one … jet lag and intense schedule caught up with me and I slept from 9 pm to 7:15 this morning. Can’t tell you the last time I did that.

K S

Yeah, thats what I think of my Saturday morning Darjeeling.

K S

Oh, and hurray for getting some much needed rest.

gmathis

Thanks. Took an extra R & R day even before I knew how exhausted I would be … reentry tomorrow. Saving the strong stuff for 6:30 a.m. :)

Did not like the mandarin orange flavor that added a surprisingly bitter note to the tea.

Started my day with this one – super spicy as a lot of the spice settled to the bottom – even tho I try to remember to shake it each time! A nice wake-up today, tho!

On my 2nd cup of this – this morning! Just needed some Chai – and this was the first one I found in my work stash. It does the trick. See previous notes :)

Tea of the morning here, somehow I felt like something light and green. :)

This is not for purists, it’s a blend of green and black tea with strawberry and papaya. The papaya makes it a tiny bit tart on your tongue and the strawberry is present but not overpowering. I’m not picking up on much sweetness and am even tempted to add a touch of sugar. I had this iced over the summer and I think it’s really good that way. I like it a little less when it’s hot but it’s still fairly tasty and refreshing.

I have enjoyed it but not sure I will need anymore when this supply runs out.

So apparently I’ve never rated this one…even if I’ve had it several times… Amy oh’s review from yesterday reminded me I had this tea. I knew it was going to be my tea of the morning. I had planned to get up at my usual time (even on my surprise day off – due to an excellent conference) but I eased into my day and slept a half an hour later (living the life I know).

But I took my time getting ready for the day = internet. Then I gathered the laundry to start, showered, etc. FINALLY I got the kettle going and had to do a little digging to find this one. I have to say it reminds me of coffee in both smell and taste. But not in a bad way. More like welcome back to a better way to have that caffeine kick. I did add a little soy creamer to this one and some of the amazing Vanilla Sugar from Penzey’s – which is mine and mine alone in the house!

I do get a lot of the pu-erh in this tea even with the additions to it. BUT I think the suger is finally allowing the caramel toffee flavor to shine here. I seem to taste the pu-erh more on the finish this time around rather than right from the start. A really nice way to start my lovely day off.

I might add some sugar to mine next time too

This tea was a recent one I scored at the trip to Capitol Teas In Washington DC. I’ve had it a couple of times now and I’m not quite sure what I think of it. It smells better than it tastes, in my opinion. There is definitely an aroma of toffee but the flavor doesn’t translate as well. To me it doesn’t seem that rich and decadent…

Unlike a lot of flavored pu-erhs, you can actually taste the pu-erh in here though and it’s very rich and smooth. I added some soymilk and liked it better than way. hmm. I bet this would be really good as a latte.

And I hope I can sleep tonight after drinking this so late!

I had the same problem you did with the toffee flavoring not turning up in my cup. But I too added in some soy and that did help it along a bit.

TeaBrat

Great minds think alike!

We do indeed! I think this particular tea is one that grows on you…and now I want a cup!

Wow, this stuff is interesting. So I’m from Maryland and being a nerd I had to have a tea commemorating the War of 1812! Plus I like smoky teas but really wasn’t sure what this would taste like with the fruit.

Well, I like it! A blend of smoky black and green teas, a bit herbaly, lots of fruit. This is a very unique blend and delicious. I will to write more about it when I have some time! A+

I’m back from the East Coast and have a serious case of jet lag – somehow east to west always seems worse. I also got to sit next to a hyperactive 3 year old who was kicking me for 6 hours. I do have sympathy for parents who have to travel with small children but if some airline develops a child free section you can guarantee I will be on it. :)

Anyway this is part of the recent haul from Capital teas. I got some teas for my birthday which was on Thursday… because I just don’t have enough tea, right? :)

I picked out most of my stuff by smell and I ended up with a lot of fruity things. I wish I had realized this had hibiscus in it before I bought it. After I steeped it up my first impression was it was just kind of sour and tart. I ended up putting it over ice which I liked a lot better than the hot version. I think diluting it with ice seems to have been tempered the sourness. As you can imagine, it’s a very fruity and slightly herbaly flavor from the mate and the fruit. It’s difficult to taste much green tea in here, but I hope it will give me an energy boost and perhaps cure this headache I have going.

I had this iced/cold today at Capital Teas and it was quite delicious and refreshing! I bought six teas that I will properly rate and add to the database when I get home. I can’t properly use the sliders to rate this because I’m on my kindle fire. Capital teas, I think I looooove you!

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me a bit of this tea.

This is a really nice breakfast blend. Very nicely round and full-flavored. Smoky tones, malty notes, very rich and delicious. Lots of gusto to it – a great tea to get you going. Love this!

LiberTEAs Thank you for this!

I really like it when chai’s add that lil bit o Citrus to the mix! This one did just that! The spices aren’t overly spicy and there is just a touch of citrus. If you are looking for a super spicy chai this might not be as intense as you are looking for BUT I find this very nice! It even ends a little juicy and creamy with a bit of a kick!

This is very comforting! Just what I need today! YUM!

drank Genmaicha by Capital Teas

Special thanks to The Purrfect Cup for this one! This seems ‘cleaner’ than most Genmaicha’s I have tried…at least to look at the post-infused liquid, that is. It has that over the top roasty/toasty popped corn/popped rice aroma – but it sure is welcomed!

WOW

Yeah.

This is GOOD. This is better than good!

This is a WONDERFUL Genmaicha. Among the best I have tried!
It IS clean as well as roasty/toasty/popped/and GREEN. Very lovely!

Tea_is_wisdom

This one sounds good. I am mostly a Oolong lover a long with ripe and raw puerh. As for green tea the one I go to most is Long Jing. Always wanted to give a good quality Genmaicha a try. Will have to add one to the list to try. Thanks for the review.

TeaBrat

oooh, I am going to Washington Dc later this month, I might need to go there!

Nick

Funny story is I almost worked at Capitol Teas, I worked at the Teavana in Annapolis and was offered at job at the Capitol Teas in downtown Annapolis but ended up staying at Teavana since my boss gave me a slight raise. Ha but anyways, I’ve been looking to try a Genmaicha, as someone whos tried many kinds would you recommend this to start?

So…I’m having Eggplant for lunch and it’s really good. I’m having this tea with it. It’s from The Purrfect Cup! Thanks!!!

A nice medium strength black tea…nice and even from start to finish! Slightly floral and a bit brisk! Very nice, indeed!

Thanks LiberTEAs!

Peachy and Floral Notes sum this one up! The Green Tea is more powerful than the Black and the flavors are more powerful than both the black and green tea bases. Having said that…it’s pretty darned tasty! I like this! Both hot and cold!
