This was not enchanting to me. They need to rename this tea because with a name that starts out with chocolate and caramel, I expect to taste that. To tell the truth I didn’t even think that it tasted like tea – just spices. Looks like I should have read the other reviews before I purchased this one.
I’m reviewing this one for Mike the founder of ’It’s All About the Leaf’ tea blog (http://www.itsallabouttheleaf.com/).
I grew up drinking Celestial Seasonings teas and it was (and still is) a staple in my mom’s cupboard; but for some reason I never got around to trying this particular one even though ‘Sleepytime’ is one of the standard CS blends. For once CS seems to have made a herbal tea without hibiscus being involved (thankfully). Out of the box it smells quite herbal with a strong odor of mint. More in-depth sniffing revealed a sweet vanilla-y odor lurking in the background.
There’s not really a whole lot of vanilla that I can taste in the tea itself and I think that’s partially due to the fact that the mint and chamomile are such strong, aromatic herbs that they drown out any subtleties in this tea.
Preparation
I got this one for my husband because he seems to like these hibiscus based Zinger teas. I have a mug of it and it was okay. Very tart though with just a hint of berries. I’m making a pitcher of cold-brewed. I hope that cold-brewing it brings out the sweetness of the hibiscus like it did with the Tangerine Zinger.
This is my second mug of this that I’ve had tonight. I tried something daring earlier and it was so great that I’m doing it again. The box was rambling on about peaches and cream and I was thinking that sounded pretty amazing. So I put a bit of sugar in this tea, no big deal. But then I decided to add a bit of milk which isn’t something I would normally do, especially since Celestial Seasonings tend to be a little light. However, it worked beautifully. It really is like dessert in a mug. For an impulse buy, this tea has turned out to be a pretty good decision.
I picked this up at the store because I needed something caffeine free to have in the evenings. I didn’t expect it to be very good, but it really is nice. Even though it contains hibiscus, it isn’t overly tart. It is sweet and juicy just like a peach. As it cools the tea becomes sweeter and is almost like drinking juice rather than tea. I really like this one.
