I don’t get this one at all. It’s flavoured, yes, but I don’t get any strawberry from it.
Tasty enough for a darjeeling, but if I had known I might have steeped it cooler. Not something I’m interested in enough to try again.
Thanks for sharing, Sil. :)
Sipdown! I didn’t even have ANY of this before I doctored it up with whiskey and honey.
Yes, drinking at breakfast. I know, I know.
Anyways, I wish I could get more of this tea. I hadn’t seen a whiskey tea before… Betjeman et Barton have Balade Irlandaise, but I have no idea how much shipping would be.
This is really good when you’re sick. I’m sure it’d be excellent as a cocktail, as well.
This one tasted pretty good, but then I said, “TO HECK WITH IT!” and doctored it up. A capful of whiskey, a large spoonful of honey, and I’m on my way to feeling better.
And yes, I do have to go to work this afternoon, thanks for asking. ;)
I just found out that this company recently closed it’s doors. Sad. :(
This was a tasty cup of tea, although I don’t know that I tasted “cake.” I did taste a strong cinnamon-y note … not so much a cinnamon candy kind of taste, but more like a snickerdoodle cinnamon note.
I also taste vanilla. The vanilla and the cinnamon play well together and seem to enhance that overall “snickerdoodle” kind of flavor.
Tasty, not quite “cake” but tasty!
had this again today in an effort to also drink some of my older teas. Today it was overly bitter and not so tasty. Ah well…sipdown!
I finally thought to check out the company website again while drinking this. I’m sad to say that it looks like they’ve shut the doors and are no longer in business. It makes me a little sad since i was certainly a fan of their tim finnegan’s wake up tea and was considering purchasing more. ah well. Cheers to you cuppa crew! hopefully you’re doing some great somewhere else!
sipdown! which is a good thing since i received my two little red cup samples today…so at least my cupboard didn’t increase :) there’s still hope for me getting to 200 by the end of this weekend. i think.
This was a tasty cup…i’d even consider a re-order from time to time, to change things up in my cupboard. :)
A really tasty strawberry tea … different from other strawberry black teas because this is a darjeeling base which offers a lighter, crisper background note, as well as the 2nd Flush muscatel, which gives it the “Sham-pag-nee” like taste.
Very enjoyable. I like this one.
Thanks Azzrian for sending me some of it!
seriously, sometimes i want to kick steepster. it was giving me grief getting to this tea to post a note. This one is nearly gone, and i’m happy to say i’ve enjoyed this one from cuppa crew. Not sure if they’re still around, as i haven’t seen them on steepster in a while but if they are, they’re a company i’d be willing to re-order from. They have excellent customer service and i’ve enjoyed the teas of their that i’ve tried. this one has grown on me a bit as well as i’ve had it. :)
I think that leaves me @ 308.
This is one of the last teas left in the first box Sil sent to me, LOL, I plan to finally empty that one this week!
Nice strawberry flavor, decent black tea for a backdrop. I’m not really getting a sense of champagne, but I love Christopher Walken, so thanks Sil for sending me a generous sample!
I didn’t realize that this was a darjeeling – just assumed it was a standard black, but now that I know, I can pick out some muscatel notes that I previously assumed were just part of the flavouring. Anyhow – this tea is pretty decent! I’m not tasting champagne, but I’m picking up on the candy strawberry flavour that I enjoy in tea.
Overall, pretty tasty, but would just be an occasional tea for me. Thanks for sharing some, Sil!
Thank you Azzrian for sending me some of this tea. This is a deliciously bold tea. Pleasant and invigorating! Just what I needed to get going!
Nice Irish cream flavor to this, and I like the way the malty tones of the tea mingle with the sweet, creamy notes of the Irish Cream. This is a really yummy cuppa!
Really like this. It is somewhere between an Assam and a Chinese black but not really like either. Doesn’t make me think oolong at all. Just yum for my first cup of the day.
I had this today in an effort to make sure to have some of the teas that i haven’t had in a while or haven’t tried or haven’t logged lol. I wish i could say i paid attention to it this morning but i didn’t. I did drink it all though which means it was tasty…i was just busy :(
I am finishing my tea drinking today with this one. It is a really nice cup. This version is my first experience with this type oolong. It is highly oxidized – almost to the point of being a black tea. It is not smoky or heavily roasted tasting. At first it reminded me of Darjeeling but the more I think about it, this is kind of like the Nepal black Nicole gave me. Probably if I had them side by side I wouldn’t think so but I can’t compare it to anything else. No bitterness, astringency, or bite. Smooth and fruity. Yum.
Sipdown from Sil’s Sample Box
This is nice, bold, malty, & naturally sweet. There’s a little bitterness, but I’m finding that appealing today. I’m near the end of the cup, & I just noticed an almost beer-like aftertaste, as if there were hops in there. I haven’t had a beer (or any alcohol) for about 30 years, but don’t worry, the flavor isn’t gonna cause me to go out on a bender or anything. :D
Used 1 tablespoons for ~248ml of water
The brewed tea aroma has a delightful strawberry and cream aroma.
Touch of astringency on the sip. Black tea flavour is detectable. Candy strawberry sweetness.
Thanks to Sil for sharing this with me.
Hmmm…not sure how I feel about this one…I think I asked Sil for a sample simply because I’m a Christopher Walken fan, LOL. So while I was drinking it, I watched “The Continental”
Then I also watched the ‘more cowbell’ skit from SNL too. God, I love that skit! LMAO!
The tea? It’s not bad. Not something I’d purchase, but interesting enough to enjoy. Thanks Sil!
It’s gonna need more cowbell!
this is pretty interesting. It’s not exactly cake in the way that say della terra’s upside down cake is, but there’s still a cake like feel to this. The base isn’t too astringent and the combination of the cinnamon and vanilla together makes for a neat blend. It’s not quite a dessert like tea but it is a sweet tasty tea.
Thank you Sil for this sample!
I love the name of this tea! I have a considerable amount of Irish blood from my Mom’s side & Cherokee from my Dads, so the results is a long family history of alcoholism on both sides, LOL. Of course, this tea is alcohol free, with the flavor if Irish Whiskey, but honestly, I didn’t taste it. It’s a fairly bold blend, somewhat astringent, with a bright & fruity high end. A good start to my day!
I was just scrolling through my tasting notes – what an eclectic stash. From super cheap to more than a lot of people make an hour and I like most of it, including this one.
Starting my day with this using yesterday’s leaf. I think I steeped it correctly this time. The description says this tastes pastry. I am not sure what that means. It is almost malty but not, almost cocoa, but not. It’s not really yeasty. It does kind of taste like the crust of bread – kind of. Maybe bread dipped in Darjeeling, without the Muscatel. Wow, I’m at a loss. One thing I can tell you is the problem with this tea – it keeps disappearing out of my cup.
I won this from Cuppa Crew – yeah me! I am not ready to review this yet because I don’t think I steeped it correctly. Even so this is very different than any oolong I have had before. It reminds me of Darjeeling. It is almost a black tea with no smoke or roasted notes. Dry it smells of hay and bark. I can kind of agree to peach notes because I read it. I am not sure I would come up with that description on my own. I am getting light and fruity with wood notes. Well apparently I am reviewing this. This is not a bold black flavor. it is smooth Darjeeling with no astringency or bite. Two thumbs up!
Backlog from yesterday! I really enjoyed this one though i’m not sure what i was expecting. The strawberry taste is really nice and the “champagne” part of this tea is really delicious. I think in my head this was a strawberry cream so it was a little disconnected drinking it but once i was able to remind my brain that this was champagne! it was quite delicious. I’m really glad that i have a larger pouch of this one. Chalk one up to Cuppa tea for a great first impression!
I really like this tea! I won a free sample of it from Cuppa Crew Tea, and I was very excited to try it! I got this tea a few days before Mardi Gras, and I definitely drank it all day! It is really good! It definitely has the sweet vanilla and cinnamon that you would expect from a king cake! The base did not get bitter on me. I really like this tea and will be reordering it when I run out! Nothing like a little King Cake to put you in a good mood!
