Again another tea that I’ve waited so long to review. I am almost done with my bag of tea! I love the colorful leaves mixed in with this black tea. I smell the slight berry flavor on the dry leaf. Steeped, it is a nice, dark brew. This is quite a strong tea! It definitely is great for the morning. The flavor is slightly malty with some astringency to it. It doesn’t need additives though. It is good on its own. I love the slight berry flavor it has as well. Yum!
Sipdown! 940…. (apparently Turtle Cheesecake was not in my spreadsheet… dammit.) Thanks Sil for a sample many, many moons ago.
Anyways, this is definitely a potent black – a bit toooo potent for me, honestly, although it’s still tasty. I imagine it would be especially good with milk and sugar to tone down the slight astringency I’m picking up. I’m not catching any irish cream/whiskey notes, which I was hoping for – perhaps they aren’t all that apparent, or perhaps they faded over time, it’s tough to say. Overall, a strong, bold breakfast tea, primarily malty, and hay-y, with a sweet finish. No chocolate notes.
Received a sample from Fjellrev a while back, but for various reasons am only getting around to it now.
I don’t get vanilla or cinnamon from this, I actually get bourbon! I love a good bourbon, and the rich base black gives the tea the mouthfeel I like when sipping bourbon.
I’ve had a fustercluck of a weekend, so this is a really comforting cuppa to get me through the day til I have to head back to another insane night of work.
Great Canadian Travelling Tea Box (pt.1)
I had this tea on Feb 5th
Dry Leaf: black tea leaves ( Darjeeling), some yellowy bits and strawberries. There is a kind of a sweet scent to this tea.
Steeped: The water is a nice dark amber color. It was a semi-sweet taste, and I also found the taste strong and bitter as well a flavor.
Sipdown! I didn’t even have ANY of this before I doctored it up with whiskey and honey.
Yes, drinking at breakfast. I know, I know.
Anyways, I wish I could get more of this tea. I hadn’t seen a whiskey tea before… Betjeman et Barton have Balade Irlandaise, but I have no idea how much shipping would be.
This is really good when you’re sick. I’m sure it’d be excellent as a cocktail, as well.
This one tasted pretty good, but then I said, “TO HECK WITH IT!” and doctored it up. A capful of whiskey, a large spoonful of honey, and I’m on my way to feeling better.
And yes, I do have to go to work this afternoon, thanks for asking. ;)
I just found out that this company recently closed it’s doors. Sad. :(
This was a tasty cup of tea, although I don’t know that I tasted “cake.” I did taste a strong cinnamon-y note … not so much a cinnamon candy kind of taste, but more like a snickerdoodle cinnamon note.
I also taste vanilla. The vanilla and the cinnamon play well together and seem to enhance that overall “snickerdoodle” kind of flavor.
Tasty, not quite “cake” but tasty!
A really tasty strawberry tea … different from other strawberry black teas because this is a darjeeling base which offers a lighter, crisper background note, as well as the 2nd Flush muscatel, which gives it the “Sham-pag-nee” like taste.
Very enjoyable. I like this one.
Thanks Azzrian for sending me some of it!
I didn’t realize that this was a darjeeling – just assumed it was a standard black, but now that I know, I can pick out some muscatel notes that I previously assumed were just part of the flavouring. Anyhow – this tea is pretty decent! I’m not tasting champagne, but I’m picking up on the candy strawberry flavour that I enjoy in tea.
Overall, pretty tasty, but would just be an occasional tea for me. Thanks for sharing some, Sil!
I think that leaves me @ 308.
This is one of the last teas left in the first box Sil sent to me, LOL, I plan to finally empty that one this week!
Nice strawberry flavor, decent black tea for a backdrop. I’m not really getting a sense of champagne, but I love Christopher Walken, so thanks Sil for sending me a generous sample!
Hmmm…not sure how I feel about this one…I think I asked Sil for a sample simply because I’m a Christopher Walken fan, LOL. So while I was drinking it, I watched “The Continental”
Then I also watched the ‘more cowbell’ skit from SNL too. God, I love that skit! LMAO!
The tea? It’s not bad. Not something I’d purchase, but interesting enough to enjoy. Thanks Sil!
It’s gonna need more cowbell!
Sipdown from Sil’s Sample Box
This is nice, bold, malty, & naturally sweet. There’s a little bitterness, but I’m finding that appealing today. I’m near the end of the cup, & I just noticed an almost beer-like aftertaste, as if there were hops in there. I haven’t had a beer (or any alcohol) for about 30 years, but don’t worry, the flavor isn’t gonna cause me to go out on a bender or anything. :D
Thank you Sil for this sample!
I love the name of this tea! I have a considerable amount of Irish blood from my Mom’s side & Cherokee from my Dads, so the results is a long family history of alcoholism on both sides, LOL. Of course, this tea is alcohol free, with the flavor if Irish Whiskey, but honestly, I didn’t taste it. It’s a fairly bold blend, somewhat astringent, with a bright & fruity high end. A good start to my day!
Thank you Azzrian for sending me some of this tea. This is a deliciously bold tea. Pleasant and invigorating! Just what I needed to get going!
Nice Irish cream flavor to this, and I like the way the malty tones of the tea mingle with the sweet, creamy notes of the Irish Cream. This is a really yummy cuppa!
sipdown! which is a good thing since i received my two little red cup samples today…so at least my cupboard didn’t increase :) there’s still hope for me getting to 200 by the end of this weekend. i think.
This was a tasty cup…i’d even consider a re-order from time to time, to change things up in my cupboard. :)
seriously, sometimes i want to kick steepster. it was giving me grief getting to this tea to post a note. This one is nearly gone, and i’m happy to say i’ve enjoyed this one from cuppa crew. Not sure if they’re still around, as i haven’t seen them on steepster in a while but if they are, they’re a company i’d be willing to re-order from. They have excellent customer service and i’ve enjoyed the teas of their that i’ve tried. this one has grown on me a bit as well as i’ve had it. :)
I finally thought to check out the company website again while drinking this. I’m sad to say that it looks like they’ve shut the doors and are no longer in business. It makes me a little sad since i was certainly a fan of their tim finnegan’s wake up tea and was considering purchasing more. ah well. Cheers to you cuppa crew! hopefully you’re doing some great somewhere else!
this is pretty interesting. It’s not exactly cake in the way that say della terra’s upside down cake is, but there’s still a cake like feel to this. The base isn’t too astringent and the combination of the cinnamon and vanilla together makes for a neat blend. It’s not quite a dessert like tea but it is a sweet tasty tea.
