A fellow harpist came over for tea today. I let her look over my menu (the printout of my tea collection), & this was the first tea we picked. Turns out she is a fellow licorice root lover! Yay!
So the is a sipdown, & it is from a sample that BoxerMama sent me months ago, & it’s not something I’d buy, but my friend enjoyed it & now it’s gone! Thanks BoxerMom!
Thanks to BoxerMama for this sample.
I love licorice root! There, I said it!
Having said that, this tea is OK. Not something I’d buy, there are way too many other flavors in there with the licorice, but something to sample in the evening when I really don’t need to add any more caffeine to my day. I have another early gig tomorrow, gotta leave the house by 6:15 again. I want to turn on my AX, but ‘you know who’ will start jamming & next thing you know, it will be midnight, or later!
Day 5 of 24 days of tea (and my BIRTHDAY, woot!) Unfortunately, I forgot about the tea steeping and ruined the blend. Way too bitter, dang. I think I’ll make a purchase of this later to try again though since it got some great reviews.
I find myself torn with this tea.
In reading the description I was so excited to try, even though I had never actually had star of anise before. I got so excited I almost bought it without even smelling it at the David’s store (new location on 6th ave!!) However at the last minute I noticed that licorice notes were in the description and that can go either way with me. However, it still smelled delicious enough, so I had to give it a try.
We have a small teaball at work, and although not my usual, preferred method, I couldn’t wait to try it. It was a challenge just packing what appeared to be a good representation of the blend into the teaball. I decided to stick with the tealeaves and coconut in the ball and allow a single star of anise to float freely in my cup. It looks very fancy!
I love the initial flavors, however the aftertaste reminds me of mints I had when I was younger (and despised). They were chalky white, but when you sucked on them a black, bitter/licorice-tasting and seed-like filling was in the center. I just can’t shake the comparison.
I think I need to try a few more cups before I make this decision – I do so want to like it!!
My cup to go was muddied with soy milk and I think this altered the flavour too much for me, so I am on the fence too. I am also not a licorice fan but was told the licorice flavour in here is not dominant.
I know! I keep meaning to bring in my David’s Perfect Mug so I can let the leaves expand properly! Soon enough I’ll have one to spare and won’t have to sacrifice at work! How did your second cup go?
I’m such a tool. When I bought my Timolino the other day, the sales associate said I could choose any tea to try in it for free. I completely forgot I tried this a couple months ago, and requested this. Figured hey, might as well go for an oolong!
As some may know, the Timolino can keep water intensely hot, and especially since the freshly boiled water was poured directly into it, and the leaves were left in there, it wound up being a complete mess. So scorched and bitter.
Yikes, I’m sure it must have happened to many others then. Totally stupid question, but which colour did you get?
Not a stupid question! Initially I had a robin egg one, but I lost it at school and ended up replacing it with a black one.
I ordered a cup of this before work, and the employee suggested adding some milk, so soy milk it was. Not sure if he slipped in some agave? But this is much better than the vanilla oolong! It kind of reminds me of Harney & Sons Vanilla Comoro in that I’m getting cubes of vanilla caramel from this.
Very creamy and sweet. I’m being ultra bad and going by memory, but I didn’t note any prevalent oolong base notes. Mostly creamy vanilla.
Sipdown! (No I did not mean “Wild own!”. Damn you, autocorrect.)
One of my staples that had actually become neglected – probably from drinking it too often and then being distracted by all of my shiny, new purchases.
I love having this with a bit of agave. Tonight’s pot reminded me why I love this tea (I originally bought it because I am addicted to popcorn) but since moving on to other teas, I kind of wish this was mixed with a genmaicha. Crap, I wish I had thought to blend it with some and now I can’t since I’m on my second steep and all out of this :( Sigh, oh well!
Not sure how soon I’ll be reordering this since I have so many other teas to drink and also want to try some other DAVIDsTEAs.
(Note: I can’t drag the rating or prep scrolls on my iPod but I give it a 75 and steeped it for 4 mins for my first steep and 8 for my second.)
Dry Leaf Nose: Sweet coconut and cinnamon with ginger & cardamom notes.
Liquor: Red brown liquor with a very spicy and enticing aroma.
Flavour: Spices hit first, followed by a coconut background. Cinnamon sweetens the blend, while the peppercorns add spiciness (the longer you steep, the spicier the blend).
Preparation
Dry Leaf Nose: Rich black tea and toasty coconut with a creamy background.
Liquor: Very dark and rich, clear.
Flavour Notes: Rich tea flavour with pronounced coconut and cream notes, beautifully balanced and one complimenting the other. Naturally sweet.
Preparation
I havent tryed this one yet but I was doing some reading online and heard that this tea is potentionaly dangerous because of the kombutcha? I dont know if it was mostly reffering to home made or even the bought kind they said it can cause allergic reaction or infection from bacteria..has anyone heard or experianced this??? I just wanna know if its safe? :) thank you
I think they mean generally-speaking home-made because of how it’s made.

I believe this is just a flavoring-combo in this DavidsTEA (but I could be wrong)
Hope that helps a little.
I got this as a sample from one of my friends who told me this was not her favorite tea….but as usual I love it! lol strawberry and chocolate but very sweet like and I have to tell you I am not a fan of chocolate covered strawberrys lol and I loved this tea. dry it smelled like chocolate and steeped the same and I couldnt pick out any other taste except strawbery and chocolate….if I can get any more boring than that descripton Id be shocked…but there you have it haha…sweet and simple. loved it <3

I had high hopes for this tea :( the smell was well horific to me(my mom didnt think it smelled bad) I thought well if I can get past this smell I can get thru anything today lol, but I drank it…Thank God it didnt taste like it smelled! It did give me energy and guys I am not over exaggerating when I say Id put up with almost any taste or smell if it gave me crazy energy. so I will drink what I have left of my 50 gram bag and move on with the rest of my life lol I wont be stocking up on this one again :(
