Backlogging: It does alright, but I have yet to find a bedtime as perfect as Teaopia’s Sleep Well. Mother’s Little Helper is missing some depth that I’ve gotten used to/need.

When preparing I will try adding a few fennel seeds, but it’s still not perfect.

Got this To-Go from the store this morning. I’ve had smoother lemon teas. There was something slightly jarring between the lemon flavor and the orange flavor in here. Was there bergamot? Somehow the oily orange flavor didn’t combine with both the lemon and the orange rind very well. I could taste each one distinctly, but they didn’t seem to come to accord in my mouth.

The base itself seemed like a very strong, tannic breakfast tea. It would have tasted nice with a squeeze of fresh lemon.

drank Vanilla Orchid by DAVIDsTEA

This is a nice, sweet oolong. I think I’d especially love it in the fall or winter, but it’s fine as a summer sipper too. It’s not too strong, and the vanilla and floral flavors both come through without competing with each other.

As I come to realize that my favorite tea is not green tea, but oolong tea, I’m amassing an oolong collection. I have absolutely no problem with this.

As always, I’m curious to try it iced.

drank Birthday Cake by DAVIDsTEA

Finished this sample today, my birthday is this weekend, so I thought it was a suitable choice. It’s quite sweet, but it’s a nice as a tea to drink on occassion. I’ll definitely pick up samples of this one in the future, but it’s a little too sweet for me to want in full size. Happy Friday!

The smell of this seemed a bit oversweet, so I was cringing as I took my first sip of this tea. But I quickly found out that it tastes pretty good– it really was like vanilla birthday cake. You know, those sheet cakes with about a half inch of icing that usually has things like icing balloons or icing rosettes across the front. Don’t get me wrong this is a sweet rooibos, but I think it’s one of the better ones I’ve had from David’s Tea. I wouldn’t keep in stocked in my cupboard, but I’d probably repurchase it on occasion.

I must say, the greasy film this tea leaves on my mug is a bit of a turn off, but it’s not a huge deal for me.

On the flip-side, when I read that the ingredients include freeze dried ice cream bits, I said “cool! Astronaut food” I was instantly 12 years old again.

I can’t say the word Astronaut without thinking “Astronaut Mike Dexter”

Whoa! Random thoughts…I think I’m overtired…off too bed

momo

Astronaut Mike Dexter…dream man.

Thanks Shmiracles! This was a random pick but I’m happy it was. 1.I had a tummy ache from dinner and 2. I’m watching a very frustrating scary movie. So that’s like doubling my tummy ache. This is enjoyable though. There is a lovely sweet note with the ginger. It’s pretty basic. Ginger tea with sweet notes. Thanks again :)

So I can’t quite remember where I got this from. I’m pretty sure I got it from Momo when she was selling some stuff, but don’t quote me on that. Lol. In any case, I didn’t realize it was rooibos when I got it. And I’ve pretty much determined that I dislike rooibos, so I had some major doubts when I opened the bag.

But it smelled so tasty that I couldn’t resist at least trying it before tossing it in my swap bin. It has the same smell as Davids Red Velvet Cake, which I love, but the rooibos gives it that particular minty-esque smell that I’ve come to associate with rooibos. Which also has the unfortunate side effect of transferring into whatever the tea is, if it’s rooibos heavy.

Anyway, it brewed up a nice reddish color that had the same smell as the dry tea. Without any sweetener it tasted vaguely similar to what it smelled like, kinda cakelike. Like a spice cake maybe. After adding sweetener, the taste was definitely much better, more like cake. But I could definitely tell it was rooibos because of the that dratted minty-ness.

Overall I didn’t mind the taste that much because it enhanced the overall taste of the tea instead of killing it for me. But if I had my choice between this and Red Velvet Cake, I would go for the Red Velvet Cake. Though in a pinch, this would do.

This one has been on my radar for a while. I’m really liking fantasy island and I never thought fruity black teas would be “my thing”. Especially with a splash of milk. In my brain, there is just something wrong with that. In practice, it’s so good!

Blueberry jam is an exceptional blend. The blueberry is very overt and the base is quite bland, which is a good thing. It lets the blueberry take over. Ah, so excited! Will stock as soon as I can.

drank Pink Lemonade by DAVIDsTEA

I had a Pink Lemonade at DT to go today since I’ve been meaning to try it (even though I’m not usually a fan of rooibos teas). I can see why people don’t like it – if you don’t have a taste for stevia, this would taste extraordinarily metallic. However, the stevia doesn’t bother me (but I use stevia fairly often at home). I like it! Sure, it’s sweet. But it’ll be a nice addition to my summer iced tea collection (once I stock up). Couldn’t imagine this one hot though…

drank Long Life Oolong by DAVIDsTEA

I’ve had this sitting on my counter for me to brew for at least a week but never seem to have time. Mostly because I wanted to try a second+ steeping on it and I can only do that on days I’m off. But today was the day.
It has a wonderful peachy smell and chunks of fruits and such mixed in. As usual, I was surprised how much the leaves uncurled while brewing, but it’s always fun to watch.
I managed to get two infusions out of this. The first was pretty good. Nice peach flavor, but I had to add a bit of sugar to bring it out more. I was kinda disappointed it didn’t have more ‘oomph’ in flavor with as much stuff as was mixed in. But it was pretty tasty regardless. Had almost a mildly spicy-esque back taste to it, might be the safflower petals (which were pretty) or possibly the orange? I’m not sure. More testing required! Lol.
To be honest, I don’t think the almonds were necessary here. I didn’t think they really added anything, in my opinion, but I could just be overlooking the taste there.

2nd infusion – Brewed same temp but for 1 min longer. Not bad and I drank the whole cup, but it just wasn’t as good flavor wise as the first cup. Definitely weaker tastes overall.

At the price I wish I coulda gotten more steepings out of it, but two isn’t too bad I guess. I’ll consider keeping this around unless I find something better. But I do wish it was a bit cheaper to be honest. Lol. Though I guess that could be said of alot of teas. XD

drank Coconut Grove by DAVIDsTEA

I’m a coconut fiend so I obviously had to give this one a go.

The scent of this one reminds me of coconut cake. I definitely get a thick cake taste from this and I imagine if I added a sweetener, I’d also get a nice icing finish. I tend to do without sweeteners and this one is tasty enough without it.

I had to quickly run into the mall today and couldn’t resist going into David’s tea (after all who ever can!?). I had a sample of this tea iced and loved it so much I walked out with a cup. I don’t know if I would like this one as much warm but I will definitely pick this one up to have over the summer. I had a bit of agave in mine but I didn’t find it to be too sweet. I found it to have great flavours! It had a nice balance between tartness and sweetness which was really refreshing…I will definitely be stocking up on this :)

drank Chai Guarana by DAVIDsTEA
464 tasting notes

I asked the lady at the counter for something strong this morning because my mind was foggy from too little sleep this week. She suggested this and it smelled good, so I got it to-go with a little with soy milk because, hey, it’s chai!

This was an ok chai. I’ve had worse and better. It was fairly smooth and I liked that the cinnamon was prominent. A little ginger added some heat. I’m finding that I don’t like anise in Davidstea blends.

Also I really don’t know if it woke me up very much because I’m still wondering vaguely whether it’s Wednesday or Thursday. Then again, caffeine has never really had an overwhelming effect on me, which is why I can drink black teas at night and still sleep soundly.

This tea is delicious! It is too bad that it is sooooo heavy! 100g barley got me half a tin! I think I will try to mix it with some plain rooibos or black tea to make it last a little longer. It is very fruity and the description of the tea is spot on! It is great both iced and hot, it does need to be steeped for quite a while, but luckily it doesn’t go bitter.

This tea had such great potential! It smells amazing and the taste is definitely there, but I just can’t get past the stevia. I unfortunately have to agree with many of these comments that it is too sweet and the aftertaste from the stevia is very off-putting. If there wasn’t any stevia I think this could be one of my favourite summer teas!

drank Santa's Secret by DAVIDsTEA

This is definitely my most favourite tea ever! I could drink it any time, not just in the winter!! It is so comforting and makes me feel so relaxed! It is so hard to explain how this tastes…it doesn’t have an overwhelming peppermint taste but it is nice and creamy and definitely does taste like candy canes! The little candy canes included in the tea sweeten it just enough, I wouldn’t want to add any additional sugar to it. Best tea ever! I hope that it comes back again for next xmas…my stock will be depleted by then!

drank Cherry Blossom by DAVIDsTEA
1908 tasting notes

It’s hard to find a good cherry-flavoured tea that doesn’t taste either like cough syrup or hibiscus, but this blend manages it surprisingly well. It has a lovely sweet cherry flavour and a hint of floral rose and cherry blossoms. I’m glad they went with a white tea base rather than a grassy green tea like many cherry teas are.

I got this tea as a sample this past winter and I was finally brave enough to try it out. To tell you the truth I’m a little impartial about it: it’s got the sweetness of cookie dough; however, I don’t find it tastes anything like it. It may be the nuttiness of it, but the first thought that came to my mind when I tasted the tea was that it tasted like those fruit filled Voortman cookies (but definitely not dough). To add to the effect of cookie dough, I added a splash of cream to give it a bit of heaviness; it complimented it very well. All in all, it was an interesting tea to try; however, it is not a tea that I will be putting on my list to buy.

This tea was quite tasty. I drank it hot, and what I got a juicy refreshing brew with a bit ‘green’ flavour to it. It was light, a bit acidic without being too tart and juicy.

If I ever get my tea stash down (my cupboard is not reflective of what I have), and I’d purchase this one again, and give it a go as a cold brew.

The smell of this in the bag was delicious and very promising. We had this iced and I must say I was pretty disappointed. There was a ton of stuff going on in this tea: too much lemongrass, my boyfriend complained that it was bitter (probably from all that stevia – yuck!) and I kept worrying if the sulphites might upset him. I really wanted to like this tea as it smelled so yummy, but oh well…

Cold brewed, this is like blueberry juice. It is so freaking delicious. Hot steeping this is a waste of tea as far as I’m concerned. Why I only made 500 ml of this is a mystery. I need to make an entire pitcher. Litres and litres. Because now it’s gone and I’m sad. I must get this back in my cupboard for a summer drink. (Something’s happened to my favourite goji pop. This last batch I bought tastes funny. Chemical in a way. So I need a replacement “juice” tea. Might be this one)
