So this is pretty great. The rooibos taste is strong enough that I know it’s a rooibos but slight enough that I can taste the coconut. I don’t notice much lavendar, maybe because I wasn’t looking for it. I made it hot a little while ago and it was soothing, now I’m picking up the remainder of what’s left (cold) and it is AMAZING cold!! I guess when I really pay attention to the details, the lavendar is there, but to me it’s much more of a simple soothing flavored rooibos, which I can seeing loving at bedtime or post meals (especially BIG meals). I would order this for sure, and with my tea club card that came with my steeper, I think I will once bills are straighened out!
So yesterday my car stalled on the interstate on the way to work (at 5:30 in the morning) and we had to have it towed. And it’s in the shop now. I guess I’m lucky a careless driver didn’t nail me. But that pretty much set the tone for my day.
So I’m back today and hoping things are a little less…terrible.
I actually think this one smells a wee bit better than it tastes. It smells rummy and caramelly and sweet with just a suggestion of vanilla.
The taste here reminds me of the Red Velvet Cake tea with the butterscotch and maple notes. There’s a little bit of an emulated liquor taste here too that definitely gives it a rum feeling. The aftertaste is all butter and richness. This is absolutely a grey morning tea!
I like this one just a wee bit more than the Red Velvet Cake because this one is actually supposed to taste like it did!
Thank you for swapping with me jessiwrites! I can’t wait to try the rest :)
Preparation
Sorry about the car experience as well, but I’m glad that it got resolved safely. I was in a cab that got stalled on the 400 series highways here, and to add to the stress I was on my way to work. ( My job at the time was time sensitive, if I had not been able to get to work on time it would have affected about 200 people ). Luckily, I got a new cab quickly and the driver of my first cab was helped out quickly too. desert and sweet things are always nice after a terrible day.
Whoa! To say this tea was a strong start to the day would be an understatement! Full-bodied, earthy, malty, and tannic- do NOT oversteep this! I need to try this again steeped for a shorter time.
First sip tastes like bitter mushrooms. As it cools it gets slightly less bitter, more malty and tannic. The earthy mushroom flavor stays and it gets sweeter. Some honey tones start to come out. Surprisingly though, it doesn’t leave me with a really dry mouth.
I’m wishing I had some milk or something to add to this tea because it could definitely use it. Maybe I can find my co-worker’s secret stash of honey since she’s not in yet? I don’t keep sweeteners at work.
It’s a no go hot. Too tart. I had hopes the hibby wouldn’t be too strong on this, but for me it is. I even used a bit more sugar than normal, but it is still too tart. I can taste the passionfruit in the distant background, saying “I’m here!” but getting hushed by the hibiscus. Maybe I’ll handle it better iced, when it’s hot out. I really want to like it, but this is the first tea I’ve not been able to finish n a long time. I probably could have finished it, as I dumped it at about 1/3 full, but I wanted something else, something I like, so I swapped it for Forever Nuts, instead, keeping with the pink theme.
I really like the first cup of this tea. It is lightly floral and aromatic. The salesperson at David’s told me that different flavour profiles would emerge on each steeping, and I thought at the time ‘Great!’ What I didn’t count on was that I wouldn’t to drink anymore of it beyond 2 cups. One or two cups is enough for me. Once I get to the third cup, the jasmine becomes too much, and it tastes like paste on my tongue.
This tea becomes bitter if steeped too long, which happened to me on the second steeping.
Preparation
I was very excited to try this, and see just how blazingly hellishly hot it was. The description and reviews promised a good bit of heat, though I have a hard time gauging what other people mean by that.
I’m a bit jaded to spiciness. I am from the southwestern US, where Taco Bell’s “hot” sauce got complaints for being too mild, so they added another level of heat just for this market. Most nationally-available “hot”-flavored products don’t impress me a whole lot—sure, I can detect the heat, but I think it’s cute that Flamin’ Hot Cheetos think they’re a macho food.
I assumed that a Canadian company’s definition of “hot” is kind of on that level. But, just in case, I spent a few minutes mentally preparing myself to be in Stupid Capsaicin Tricks. Just in case. ’Cause the description and reviews said this was pretty hot.
With a 5 min steep, I couldn’t taste any heat or even any chili flavor. Just fennel and anise and licorice. Awww. It was pleasant enough, since I like fennel just fine. But it tasted like just fennel tea, not at all like SPICY fennel tea.
The scoop I brewed didn’t have a chili in it. I am going to try again, being sure to include a pepper. But I sure hope that’s not necessary to get some heat, since I don’t think there are enough peppers in my package to put one in every cup. Perhaps a longer brew time will bring out some spice?
Preparation
I bought the pitcher pack for a sample. I thought I would love this, as I love pineapple and piña coladas! I’m hit and miss when it comes to coconut. This was a miss. I had it hot and it was alright…I wouldn’t rush out and buy more. When I made it again I tried it iced. I think it made the coconut more pronounced. Dislike. I just got my davids tea order in the mail and this was one of the free samples. I suppose I will give it a second chance. I doubt I will purchase a tin though as the coconut is not so great.
I’m on the fence about this. It’s sweet and creamy from the coconut, with some bite from lavender—my throat tingles a little when I drink it.
I wouldn’t call it “soothing.” Yet it’s not one I’d drink to pep up, either.
Also, someday I really should try some plain old rooibos. I keep encountering it, but mixed with a lot of other stuff—so I am really unsure what it actually tastes like and how I feel about it.
Preparation
I tried this tea for the first time at a friend’s place. It was her favorite. I love that it sparkles and I really enjoyed it at her house! I have a 50g bag of my own and find that in moderation it is alright but there is something about it that leaves a weird aftertaste in my mouth, maybe the artificial flavoring? I don’t think I would buy a tin.
I bought this a long time ago, just a little bit. I remember disliking it when I first tried it. I have ercently came across it agian and decided to give it a second chance. So glad I did. I now would like a tin :) It is not too minty and not too chocolatey…just right. I’m not a big peppermint tea fan but this one is different, and has a pretty cute name.
I really enjoyed this tea, it’s nice and fruity with the saskatoons and cranberries. I was worried about the artificial flavoring but it didn’t bother me. I resteeped this 3 times! it was a little less flavorful on the third steep, but still tasty. My mom tried it and really liked it too, so I ordered a tin for her birthday coming up as well as a tin for me.
I really enjoyed this tea. Lots of cinnamon. The flavor reminded me of Bigelow Cinnamon stick tea. To me it’s more of a cinnamon tea than a chai. I like to drink this in the morning. Today I added some milk and French vanilla creamer :)
(This also reminds me of dentyne fire gum!)
I received this tea as a sample. The ingredients all sounded great. It smelled alright. When I steeped it, it smelled kind of fake. Someone else commented that it was like amaretto. I enjoy amaretto but this was awful. I ended up pouring out the rest of my cup, which I never do. The flavors were artificial to me…so much to the point it was making me feel sick. I am glad I received this as a sample. Won’t be purchasing.
MMmmm This tea is fabulous! I thought the idea of apple and popcorn was strange…I adore them both and love apple cider based teas like Mom’s apple pie from DT, so I sampled a little and then bought a tin. The buttery popcorn is so good and the apple is mild. It goes together very nicely. It’s a great flavored green, and I don’t have a wide array of green teas. Will certainly be refilling my tin.
mm i like this one too… even though i’m not a huge rooibos fan
