Ahhhhh, I love having fun new teas to try! And I think I’ve been wanting to try this one for awhile, so that’s even more exciting. Yesterday was a wonderful day – one of those rare days that comes every once in awhile where you feel like a ray of sunshine is beaming down on you all day. I got a new car (my first brand new car, actually!), I made A’s on both of my nursing exams, my fiancee got two big contracts that he’s been waiting on – seriously we should’ve bought a lottery ticket because we had good things happen all day. After the past three weeks of our basement being flooded, our kitties all being deathly ill and my poor car dying we needed some good things! Now today it’s all flying snow flurries outside and I’m inside watching the birds eat at the bird feeders and half hoping for a snow day tomorrow so I don’t have to go to the hospital. :)
This tea is very cocoaish to me. I can only taste a little of the banana, and it seemed really odd and artificially fruity until I added some milk and sugar. I think milk and sugar pulls all of the flavors (chocolate, banana and cocoa) together and gives it a creamy effect. Maybe not something I would stock permanently in my cupboard, but I will certainly enjoy the rest of this sample. Thank you, VariaTEA! I’m going to finish of this cup with some cookies and cream fudge that I made last night and watch the snow fall. :)
-Dry blend has medium black tea leaves with large pieces of dried banana in a powdery cocoa.
-Dry leaves smell strongly of cocoa with a hint of fruity banana. Tea liquor aroma is of rich chocolate.
-Tea liquor is a clear medium orange yellow color with an oily sheen on top.
-Odd fruity banana flavor and finish. Light cocoa aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Very good tea. Strong cocoa powder flavor with a hint of fruity banana.
I’ve been wanting to try this tea since forever, so a big thanks to whatshesaid for sending it to me, and in a festively decorated envelope no less! The dry leaves are covered in a fine, powdery cocoa and smell like rich chocolate. The banana is noticeable in the tea’s aroma. The flavor is of heavy milk chocolate with a sweet banana finish. The tea really fills your mouth, and it is a robust flavored blend. The chocolate flavor is definitely more noticeable, with just a little banana mixed in. I added a little sweetener and just the smallest amount of milk to made it nice and creamy. This tea makes me want to crawl back into bed with a big book instead of going to class!
-Dry blend has small black tea leaves, cocoa nibs and pieces of dried banana all covered in a fine cocoa powder.
-Dry leaves smell like rich chocolate. Tea liquor aroma is of chocolate and bananas.
-Tea liquor is a cloudy medium orange brown color with an oily sheen on top.
-Heavy milk chocolate and black tea flavor with a sweet banana finish.
-Best with sweetener and the smallest amount of milk.
-Very good tea. Mainly chocolate flavor with just a hint of banana.
Preparation
I agree with the other reviews of this tea, this is a mango breakfast tea. I don’t see how it is super pomagrantey. I would love to try Pom Power if anyone has any left because I feel like it would have a less dominate mango flavor.
Preparation
After reading the other tasting notes I definitely wish I had coconut rum and cream on hand… sailor jerry’s and 1% milk just doesn’t sound quite as good. The first time I tried Tropicalia, it didn’t really impress me but I think I expected the taste to be more pineapple-y than pina colad-y (very technical terms, I know :) Today I was looking for a caffeine free option to enjoy while winding down after work and I am glad I gave this another go. And I have actually added more hot water to my french-press mug so I must reeeeeeally have changed my mind about this one. I am just letting it steep away between sips, although much weaker flavour it still made a second great cup of tea. I am looking forward to having this iced, which will probably use up the rest of my pkg and I will probably pick up some more when re-stocking next. The hearts are a cute touch but like other tea lovers had noted before me the blend is a little on the heavy side. It has a baked-good like smell at first and tasted fruity, sweet and a little creamy too.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes pina coladas, fruity light herbal teas and picturing themselves on the beach.
I’ve only had this hot so far, but I feel that this would make a great lemon iced tea. Having it hot is a great way to go however, it was just comforting, like the way I feel with a good tea when I’m sick in bed with some chicken soup. It’s simple which is great for me. On those days I don’t want a BAM HERE I AM flavour this will help, and as one can probably already tell, this is great with honey instead of sugar.
This tea has been kicking around for ages, and it’s one I am not the biggest fan of. I have enough left for about 2 more cups after this one, it’s just so coconutty, it’s too much. It at least doesn’t smell as overwhelming today, so maybe it will be better, still too hot to drink. My kitty took a whiff of this and backed away haha, not a favorite here, but one I will drink nonetheless. That reminds me, I still have a full bag of coconut oolong from Zen Tea Life that I think I’ve had one cup of, I’ll have to get on that! Anyways, working my way towards finishing this bag up sometime in the near future. See previous notes on this tea :)
ETA – the taste doesn’t seem as strong today! Maybe leaving it sit for most of the summer was the key to it getting toned down!
Preparation
Maybe try mixing it with a different oolong if the coconut is too strong. Pineapple oolong might be good or vanilla orchid maybe!
I don’t have either of those at the moment unfortunately, although I do enjoy vanilla orchid :) I could try with a plain oolong I suppose, but it was a lot better this time around so maybe the coconut has gotten a bit milder with time
Gah! My Zen Tea order is apparently in the city, and they supposedly left notice card here, but I don’t have it :( so I hope they did not attempt to deliver it to the wrong place..going to the post office tomorrow to try to snag it. Anyways, since I can’t have my new coconut oolong from them tonight, I am having a cup of this. I am enjoying the immense coconut hit so far in the first steep, will maybe have another cup if I’m not coconutted out by that time, but for now, very sweet and coconut POW. I hope this helps me write my paper, my only paper of the term, so close to finishing it too! :) see previous notes on this tea.
Preparation
This tea is much better this time around! I may have steeped 30 s less or something, but this is not nearly as overpowering as the first time I had it. It still packs a wallop of coconut and has that weird, oily, sunscreen smell, but the taste I can handle much better tonight and I am enjoying this cup. Maybe I was just in the mood for coconut! :) anyways, this has improved for me, so I will up the rating a bit. Definitely prefer this as it cools off, has an enjoyable flavor! I might even try a re-steep tonight, I’m not coconutted out yet :D
ETA – the second steep was very good, much nicer, more oolong and not as much coconut :) so if I can get by the first steep, it’s a fairly delicious tea! Lol
Preparation
I bought fresh coconut this weekend & although I love coconut & fresh is way better than anything else, my stomach turned as I read the review. No more coconut for me for a while.
Awe sorry tattooed_tea! Lol it wasn’t that bad really, just had to be in the mood for it :) i do like coconut lol but not in overpowering quantities :p I would definitely not turn down a fresh coconut!
And OMGsrsly, I’d try the second steep, even if the first is too strong, save the leaves, it got a lot better and fresher the second time around! :)
I picked up 15 g of this because it smells sooo good. Toasty coconut. It’s not quite as intoxicating as the coco lemon thai to me, but still good. I was going to do a 3 minute steep, but I decided to go closer to 4 minutes, with 190 degree water. The steeped smell, to me, is not quite as pleasant. It’s such a strong coconut smell that it even smells a bit off to me..I’m not sure what it is, it’s just a bit too coconut in scent. Oh, and this brews up the palest of yellows, it almost looks like a white tea!
Luckily, the taste is a lot more on target. It is a nice toasted coconut, very rich and creamy. There’s a small hint of the oolong, but I am looking forward to the second steep to see if that comes out a bit more. Currently it is a very coconut flavored tea, but mostly just coconut. I think the butteriness is due to the oolong base, and I really enjoy it.
Overall, this is very coconutty and very delicious, but definitely a sweet tea. It isn’t very artificial, which is awesome, but it is on the sweet side. I will have to drink this one sparingly haha, it has that rich coconut that I can’t take a lot of at a time. Almost too much coconut, it’s on a fine line. Looking forward to a second steep.
ETA – I didn’t get to a second steep tonight, then first cup was just too rich, i actually didn’t finish it. If you like really coconut blends, this is definitely the tea for you, but im actually finding it a bit much.
Preparation
I didn’t get a chance to try it tonight, the first steep was way too rich for me I couldn’t handle another lol, I’ll have to try it tomorrow, will save the leaves tonight!
Ahh that definitely could have been the steeped smell i got! It was almost oily with coconut haha, the dry smell to me was just toasty and much better
I got a pouch of this for Christmas this year – really enjoyed it! I could probably do without, or less of, the white chocolate (I noticed an oily film on the surface of the tea, hoping that it’s from the chocolate melting!), but I finished the pouch off fairly quickly. Definitely one I’d buy again!
I think inexperience is hitting me again. This is not quite what I was expecting. My limited experience with Oolong has been with flavored ones. I was expecting this to be more “woody” and less “grassy”. The leaves are beautiful when unfurled, and the tea is light and delicate, but like I said maybe a bit too grassy for my tastes. I think I would prefer an oolong that is more toasted? not sure of the right word, but this one is too green for me. I don’t think it’s bad, just not what I was expecting.
Oolongs are so different from one another, I can understand your confusion if you’ve had only flavored ones. If you like the «toasted» taste, you should look for a more roasted oolong, they tend to have toasty or burnt flavors, and they are less floral. My favorite at the moment is 2003 Reserve Four Season Oolong from Butiki’s. I think you would definitely love it based on what you just wrote :-)
Thanks for the recommendation TeaFairy. I will check that one from Butiki’s. I’m still at the, I need to learn what I like, phase of my tea journey. Really appreciate the comments.
I like this tea. It’s fruity, it tart, it’s a little creamy. Not much wrong with it. I thinks is more generic fruity than specifically Strawberry/Rhubarb. I found it hard to find the actual rhubarb flavor. I just found the tartness. That being said, I do like it.
Disappointed. This is another tea that I don’t think is bad, just not named correctly. I think this should be called apple crumble. It’s heavy on the apple and cinnamon, light on the nut flavor. All in all this is enjoyable to drink but if you are looking for a “nutty” tea, this isn’t it. At least not for me.
I’m disagreeing with the general consensus here. I do taste pumpkin, but I taste fake candy pumpkin. It’s WAY too sweet, too much like candy. I think the chai spices are well balanced. To cut the in your face sweet candy taste, I’ve been mixing it about 50/50 with my favorite straight black chai.
Glad others enjoy it, but it’s not for me.
Sipdown! (192)
I still like this one. If I’m in a Davids before the summer teas arrive I’ll probably grab another 30g.
Not sure what it is, but this does taste different than I remember it from last year…
So I steeped this for 8 minutes.
(I kinda want to end that note there. Hahaha.)
It’s good, but it mostly tastes like peach. There’s not enough black tea in this for it to have gotten bitter so that’s ok, but… where’s the juicy, juicy pomegranates?
Isn’t it supposed to be pomegranate mango? I thought the tea tasted like mango juice and that was about it. But I only had a sample.
12g is not enough!
I made this, did baby things for a bit, then came back to it and forgot what it was. I knew it was sweetly delicious and very fruity.
Then I recognized the pomegranate and remembered what this was. It resteeped tolerably well too.
I didn’t think I was big on fruity teas, but I love this! Will nerd to get more at some point, as well as try it iced.
Preparation
I had this as my morning travel mug tea, but it wasn’t quite what I wanted. I feel as though I’m getting tea fussy this week, nothing seems quite right for what I want. I will find it eventually. Maybe it’s because I’m impatiently awaiting my verdant blend of the month club, wondering when to contact the PO..tracking hasn’t updated since Oct. 9, and that was with it leaving the US…sigh. Please arrive, tea! In the meantime, I have candy corn tea in my travel mug for the afternoon, hoping it tastes good in the mug! See previous notes on this tea.
Contact the post office sooner, rather than later. And contact Verdant too so if it’s returned to them they will know to keep an eye out for it.
I’m in St John’s, NL, and I’ve found my Verdant orders take at least two weeks. Stash orders (from Orgeon) have taken three. It’s such a pisser sometimes.
I haven’t had this in ages, but I had a cup last night for my flu and it was really good! So today it is in my travel mug at work. I hope I can last another 4.25 hours here lol, I should be able to, had my 6 hour tylenol for a 5 hour workday (yay for getting off early Fridays!) but I will have to look after the sick boyfriend when I get home lol, I kind of gave him whatever I have. :( anyways, this tea is great for the stomach and the hib and berries make it taste pretty good and hopefully have some vitamin C in them too! See previous notes :)
I had this tea for a while there..and then I had some that tasted kind of off, and didn’t have it since. But tonight I’m in a berry mood, so I made a cup, and it is pretty good! Back to that earthy yummy fresh strawberry flavor. Maybe it was the water at work that made it messed up before, as I’ve noticed it has a pretty messed up smell. Happy the flavor is getting back to how I like it! See previous notes :)
Glad you liked it. I found it too artificial and a bit oily so I am happy it went somewhere it will be enjoyed.
