drank Strawberry Shortcake by DAVIDsTEA
79 tasting notes

I think I might have a think for teas with Strawberry in them, I have Sweet Strawberry, Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble, Earls Garden and now Strawberry Shortcake. Worse is the dessert collection is even larger then this now!

Dry this tea has a very present strawberry smell with a slight hint of creaminess, it has an aroma very similar to candy, but I really wouldn’t recommend eating the tea leaves. Steeping the tea draws out more of that strawberry aroma into the air, certainly an aroma anyone in the room can enjoy.

The flavor really doesn’t strike me too much as strawberry shortcake, I certainly get the strawberry; however the shortcake would appear to be absent. There is a long lingering creamy aftertaste that could be compared to the taste of packaged whipped cream, not horrible but if you grew up on homemade whip cream it’s just not the same.

Certainly a good tasting tea, nice and sweet with a bunch of flavor, not exactly what I was expecting. I think my expectation of strawberry shortcake flavoring outside of the real deal is just too high.

If you love strawberry teas you should definitely check out Lupicia’s Strawberry & Vanilla, it’s so yummy!

Great to know, something else to check out in the future, as I really like both strawberry and vanilla.

I love Matcha, so when I went to DavidsTea You can imagine how excited I was that I could buy some by the weight! This tastes so smooth and so pure! It doesn’t wake me up nearly as well as it used to (since I drink so much of it!), but it does improve my overall mood and makes my body feel so much better after drinking.

I love this tea. It is mild in flavour but with a nice cooling sensation on the tongue. No sugar required as it is already sweet enough.

drank Lychee Bloom by DAVIDsTEA

to me, lychee means absolutely nothing, so I didn’t know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. Loved it’s weirdness. David’sTea call it sophisticated and I think that’s the best way to describe.

drank Mango Diablo by DAVIDsTEA

I don’t know what happened to this tea but oh dear tea gods did I not like it this time around. The green tea was bitter, the mango tasted like a fruit roll-up and the chili was AWOL. The last time I had it, it was utter perfection so I am not going to change my rating but not good, folks, not good.

I have learned something about myself—if the tea has chili in it, I will buy it. Even if it doesn’t have anything else I like in it. Chilies are apparently a big selling point to me.

The dry tea looks beautiful and smells delicious. Those bright chili strings are just so pretty and the mango smell is lovely and intense. If I was willing to share this tea, I might break it out when I have company just because of the pretty factor but I’m not willing so I won’t.

I brewed this tea hot because I have the flu and iced tea when you’re sick is not fun. Hot this tea is all mango with a nice background of green tea. I barely got any chili heat which was a bit disappointing because I like the chili kick. I did find the mango flavor to be very pleasant and intense but I wanted the chili heat. However, I happened to get distracted and the tea cooled off a bit to lukewarm and I was surprised that the chili intensified as the tea cooled. It was the perfect balance of mango sweetness with the bite of the chili.

The next time I brew this one I will probably steep it longer than the recommended 5 minutes. I like my tea hot but still want the kick of the chili. I did love this tea either way.

Dry this tea is so strong, so much ginger and pepper! There were lots of red and black peppercorns in my bag. At first I took a bit too strong of a smell, definitely made my eyes water and nose burn haha. Steeped it smells less strong, but still lots of ginger. At first it tastes like ginger, ginger and more ginger with a hint of pepper. The pepper gets stronger in the after taste. Gives some nice heat to the back of my throat. This tea definitely settles my tummy! Loving this tea, so good!

Still not entirely sure what to make of this blend: the smell is enticing, reminiscent of candy as others have said, but the flavour is very mild if you skimp on the leaves. Tastes a bit like murky water with milk. Overall, still enjoyable.

After losing my laptop and a very good reading magazine, I gave up having an enjoyable evening and brewed this to try and warm me. I did not have high hopes as it did not smell very appealing but low and behold this tea surprised me.

First with my cup sparkling. That was lovely to see. Second with the taste. I did not find myself having to adjust it at all. The little sugar balls that come with it do a fine job of making it sweet and the rest goes down like a pleasant black tea should. I will admit it doesn’t wow my britches off but for a night like this when a chinook is in full swing and the stars are out it makes me feel comfort. That’s usually what I ask for in a tea. There will be a tin on my shelf of this… Just in case another night proves miserable or a chinook decides to rattle the trees.

I’m not quite sure how to describe this tea. It’s … different.

The dry smell is a bit gingery, but the sea lettuce or burdock (I’m not sure which) overwhelms the senses. It’s a strange smell. I love cardamom, ginger, and peppermint, which are all in this mix, but I have a feeling they are secondary notes.

Once steeped, the smell is milder, but still smells of sea lettuce with a hint of ginger. Tasting it, well, hmm. It’s kind of blah. Not bad, just meh. I don’t taste the cardamom or peppermint at all. It tastes kind of like gingery lettuce water, if that makes sense. I like the idea of the burdock and the red clover, as I know of their health benefits, but I’m not sure what sea lettuce is supposed to be good for. I’ll have to look that up.

I’ll likely finish off my small packet of this at some time, but unless sea lettuce turns out to be a miracle plant of some sort, I doubt I’ll be getting more of this.

ETA: O.k., I just found out that sea lettuce is the name of a number of species of green algae. Algae can have quite a few health benefits, but I already consume it in a powdered form, so I’ll probably skip the tea in the future.

I can barely taste the flavours in this but I have found a Variable Temperature Kettle that I like, so soon I shall have delicious teas.

Today, DAVIDsTEA released its spring collection and it looks so wonderful. I was going to stop by and pick up some Sunny Citrus and Pu’erh Ginger before they were gone but now I really want to snap up all these new teas! Except the melon one because it has kiwi in it. Decisions, decisions.

Flavors: Bitter, Chocolate, Orange

This was disappointing – I love Chocolate Orange and I found the flavour in this tea very weak. I’ll try to brew it stronger next time.

Nice tea with a bit of a kick. Wish the chocolate flavour was stronger.

This was an iced sample cup at the mall.

I think this may be a possible substitute for Della Terra’s Lime Chiffon. It may not be caffeine-free but it’s easier to get a hold of on my end. To think I wrote this one off years ago when I had just discovered David’s Tea!

Thanks to CrowKettle for the sample!

When I first smelled it, I thought of a smooth Ceylon black, but there was also something else in the scent. Interesting.

Now that I’m sipping away, I’m reminded of DavidsTea Himalayan Blend, but this is a little danker and maltier – in a good way! I think there are also some honey notes slipping in too.

I’m happy I was able to try this but I don’t think I’d buy it at $10/50g.

…and I didn’t realize it was that expensive. Eek! This is one of those teas that I would be delighted to be served but wouldn’t go out of my way to obtain.

I was very happy to be served a sample of it. :P

drank Carrot Cake by DAVIDsTEA
79 tasting notes

So as I continue my venture of consuming all the “dessert” tea’s that DAVIDsTEA has to offer I have finally stumbled along to Carrot Cake Oolong. Which just sounds great to me, I like Carrot Cake and Oolong so this should be a great match…right?

As I write this I have a big cup of it steeping on my desk at work to write this review (it’s a slow day, don’t judge me!) and I must confess I received the tea last night and hesitated drinking it because of the dry smell. As others have mentioned here it does have a very powerful and slightly displeasing smell on the nose as dry leaves. I do not know if it is a combination of all the freeze dried goods or the coconut but it does have a slightly chemical smell to it. Steeped however it loses all of that harsh smell and transforms into more of a carrot cake aroma. This is what leads me to believe its a combo of the dry ingredients that gave it the bad smell.

Thankfully the taste is completely different, it’s surprisingly good nice and sweet, initially I can really taste the carrot and it quickly disappears and I am left with a lingering creamy sweetness. Not exactly how I remember my grandma and mom’s carrot cake as a kid but not too shabby for a tea. I think this one would probably make an awesome latte.

Is it sad to say that I don’t find this gingery enough, despite it smelling super gingery, or is it a testament to how off my buds and sinuses are right now that I just can’t perceive how gingery it really is? That said, this will be a staple as a medicinal tea as I routinely get sinus upsets and nausea.

For the record…although this is a rooibos tea (green I think) I really don’t taste any of it under the ginger.

drank Glitter & Gold by DAVIDsTEA

Merry Christmas!

Since we ended up picking our own present, I chose DavidsTea Perfect Mug- the giant sized one with the fall tree theme, and 30g of Glitter&Gold. I’ve been looking forward to it! This mug is going to get so much use!!!

I like this tea. Immediately I thought, “Mmmmm. Nice.” The glitter is so pretty, and I like the orange/vanilla combo, although I slightly oversteeped it.
