So I got this tea on day 20 as well and finally cracked it open yesturday after chatting with the awesome DT customer service. I missed out on the detox so they will be sending me some, which is really sweet of them. Much love to them for that. Getting this tea twice was no punishment , I actually liked this one alot. When detox comes in, I’ll do a proper tea tasting for day 10. My fave part about the tea is the apples. I love the apples in this one, great smell and great taste.

So this is day 10 of the advent calendar… I’m almost caught up. This one smells fun and excting and also has an adventure of taste. The little apple pieces in this tea are just so cute in the hot water.

Sweet Canadian

Mine was Detox! I really want to try Kiwi’s Big Adventure though, so I hope it is coming soon.

Calla

This smells wonderful like a freshly baked apple pie. Fruity, cinnamon, nutty. Yum! I can’t pick out the papaya notes though. The taste is not what I expected. Very tart and it was all hibiscus. Pass on this one.

Tea #12. Seems to taste almost exactly like Sleigh Ride that I had yesterday. I said that Sleigh Ride tasted like liquid apple pie, well this tastes like a cross between apple and pecan pie to me. Overall not quite as good as Sleigh Ride for me so I’m rating it a little lower.

….BEFORE I BAKE BANANA BREAD \o/?

After this cup though I’m gonna have to switch to decaf as I’ve also had a gigantic coffee and a tiny Coke. Bzzt!!

I got a big package of tea samples from Cavocorax yesterday :D and THIS ONE was yelling at me to be first – SO SMELLY. This tea is so very CAKE! Super yummy. Of course, just as I sat down to drink it, K shows up with a coffee – so I only ended up having half, but yummers. He liked it too. Thanks Jenn!!

drank Cookie Dough by DAVIDsTEA

Initial impressions- Smells sweet, but with a staleness (that’s not unpleasantly so) that is hard to place. Rather plain looking tea. White tea leaves and cookie dough looking chunks.
How I prepared it- 94 degrees for ten minutes. 1.5 tsp in one cup of water. No sweetener.
First sips- Immediately after brewing I see the leaves soaked up a good lot of water, the level has gone down quite a bit! Brewed it has a deep colour and the smell has not changed from my initial impression. Hard to describe taste, but quite sweet and warm. Very pleasant for winter.
I would definitely like to try it with some agave because I think this flavour needs a bit of brightening.
I think it would be delicious with some steamed milk.

drank Prairie Berry by DAVIDsTEA

I’m definitely getting more oolong than berry here, but I am getting some berry juiciness and tart undertones in this brew. I added sugar, but not a lot, and no milk, though as the oolong is a little on the darker side, it could hold up to one, but I don’t think this one will benefit from any milk. But maybe. There is an astringent taste that might be more mellow if I add milk.

In the Prairie Berry vs Blueberry Jam war, I think it is no contest…Blueberry Jam is the clear winner to me. This is another one that I think will make a nice cold brew iced tea.

Hmm, what will my next tea be? Something else from indigobloom or something I already have?

“Just hear those sleigh bells chingling, ding ting tingling too. It’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you.” Day 11 of the advent calendar. A picture perfect night for caroling and for a sweet herbal tea. Tasting this one I can see how people can compare this to “Forever nuts” flavor wise.

It does taste very similar and looks very similar in the cup. The tart nuances of Sleigh ride however sets it apart from its sweet twin. The toasty popped rice (I will admit I mistook for popcorn)adds a balance to all the fruity flavors and makes it a very satisfying blend at any time of the season. Delicious!

Not very drinkable; there’s a tartiness that I suppose could be called fruity, but there is really nothing enjoyable about it. I think it’s actually hurting my throat. Honestly I don’t think I’m going to be able to finish this mug—going down the drain.

Reminds me much more of a cornucopia than a sleigh ride…might be nice in November. It’s also pretty much fruit/nut/spice-infused water; no tea or really even herbs in this one.

That said, it is tasty. I could even taste the popped rice!

One thing that I love about herbal teas is the colours that they come in. My absolute favourite? The ones that brew a bright beet pinkish red. The colour is so rich, and I know I’m in for a slightly dry, probably fruity, and overall delicious cup of caffeine-free delightfulness.

Today’s cup is one of those, and certainly did not let me down at all. Yum! Plus, with the name, it’s suddenly all wintery, and perfect for Christmastime! Double yum!

Steeped: 4 tsp in 2-cup pot. Brewed with freshly boiled water.

First Cup: Steeped 5.5 minutes. Clear.
Very red. Very fruity. There’s a dry, strong fruity flavour that hits all at once, and then disappears almost as quickly, followed by a mild, nutty taste. There’s a lovely sweetness to it. There’s also a, pleasant, dry, fruity (or at least berry-y) aftertaste.

Second cup: Resteep. 15 minutes. Clear.
More red than a second steep of these red-coloured teas usually are. The initial burst of flavour is missing, but it automatically goes to that nice aftertaste. There is, however, a nice, sweet initial taste, and it still has quite a try mouthfeel.

Third cup: Same resteep. Approximately 40-45 minutes. Clear.
The fruity taste is a bit stronger, and the tea seems somehow a bit thicker. There’s still a bit of fruitiness (someone else mentioned apple and I think that’s what it is) but I’m mainly noticing the sweetness over any actual flavour. Still fairly enjoyable, but not as wonderful as the first steep by far.

Overall impression: The first steep is amazing. It makes me almost wish that I hadn’t given half of it to my mother. The second steep wasn’t half bad either, though not anywhere as near as the first — especially good considering it’s a tisane, which often don’t resteep well at all.

My rating: 80. A-. Would be higher if the flavour lasted longer than a burst or if it resteeped as wonderfully (though it still is a better tea for resteeping than most tisanes!). Still, I can’t deny the lovely flavour at least a low A.

Day 8 of the advent calendar :) I decided to have this tea this morning… as the name indicates . I think it is a good basic black tea. I love the taste. It tastes good with milk. I would buy this later on. I have 25g of it.

drank Toasted Walnut by DAVIDsTEA

I ordered this tea because pineapple and coconut are two of my favourite things, but was pretty disappointed upon receiving it. I don’t consider walnut on my “Do Not Want” list, but they just threw me off in this tea. I can’t really pinpoint why I don’t like this tea (don’t you just HATE that?), but I think it might be because of the constrast of sweeter elements (pineapple) versus the what I consider harsher ingredients (walnut). Luckily my girlfriend likes this so I can pass this off to her!

Advent calendar day 11. This is one of the few teas I’ve had that gets the hibiscus blend right. There’s enough for you to taste the flavour, but not too much that it goes really tart. The other flavours are appley and cinimony, like Forever Nuts as others have described. I’ve enjoyed having another cup or so of this in the advent calendar this year.

I’m finding it difficult to make up my mind about this tea. I’m getting a nice buttery oolong but not enough banana for me to consider it a banana flavored tea. Its still pleasant though! I’ll have to give it another try.

drank Alpine Punch by DAVIDsTEA
863 tasting notes

This was a sample that came with my David’s Tea order – yay for free samples!

So when I smelled the dry leaf all I could think was that it reminded me of Cha Yen Thai from Teavana. And that smelled like some cherry almond hand lotion (not a bad thing- it’s just what it reminded me of). So I sort of get amaretto, too.

Steeped, the smell is much the same- this seriously is still Cha Yen Thai all over again. Looking at the ingredients between the two, the only thing that’s really different is apple versus pineapple. So…that’s probably why I think they’re similar! This one does have a fruit punch sort of note when I drink it plain, which I don’t remember in Teavana’s blend. Actually, the sip kind of alternates between fruit punch and amaretto. I don’t really think the flavors go together, though, so I’m going to add milk to see if that gets rid of the fruit punch and brings out the amaretto.

Yeah, the milk helped. It’s pure almond/creamy goodness now. With some background spice that the apple overruled before. It’s definitely good for this time of year, and I can see why it’s so popular, but I’m glad I just got the sample size. It doesn’t stay cold long enough here for me to enjoy 50 grams of this!

2nd steep: Okay, this has more apple/cinnamon notes to it! I am going to bump it up a few points because it’s a completely different tea from the first time around!

I purchased this delicious tea yesterday at my visit to Davids Tea. SO delicious! It’s like a warm hug on a cold day. However, I do find it’s very similar to another flavour of tea that I have had. Has anyone else realized this?

I would definitely recommend this fruit infused tea to anyone!

I haven’t tried an Earl Grey green before, but I’ve heard good things! So, I picked up a sample of this back in June when I visited DAVIDsTEA in New York City and have held on to it ever since. It’s time to try it!

The aroma of the dry leaf is strong bergamot and citrus. The combination of the two reminds me of soap. Let’s hope it doesn’t taste like that! The brewed tea aroma is even more potent. But I can’t be afraid. Not of tea!! Here goes nothing!

First sip…phew! This tastes pretty much exactly like it smells. There’s virtually no green tea taste. Just lots of bergamot and lots of citrus. I guess if you love those two things, then this would be spectacular. But I’m finding this bergamot to be a little too powerful for me. It feels like I’m drinking it through my nose instead of my mouth, kind of like getting water up your nose when you go swimming. Not an entirely pleasant feeling.

Overall impression? Not good. First impression was maybe a 62. But upon further reflection (and further sips), this one is really too bergamot-y for me to enjoy so it’s getting a 45. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Maybe another Earl Grey green will be more to my liking. Or maybe this just isn’t a good combo for my taste buds. Either way, it was fun to try! :)

I was very excited to buy a tin of this tea after smelling it once in the past. I decided to buy a cup to try it first and I’m so glad I did- it smells and tastes wonderful but it has a greasy film on the surface and leaves a waxy dark ring around the top of your cup. It’s such a pretty delicate tea, but the film was such a turn-off. I guess it’s from the melted white chocolate, but I won’t buy it because it will be gross and messy to have that ring lining the mug every time I drink it. It reminds me of the ring around the bath tub from the Dr. Seuss book, Cat in the Hat Comes Back.
