This is my favorite oolong thus far. It’s lovely and light, and oh so delicious. The vanilla flavor goes together so nicely with the oolong. Although I got three steeps out of these leaves there was an obvious deterioration in flavor as compared with each preceding steep. That first steep though…oh my! Heaven

She’s a keeper!

Shmiracles

lovely and light! you said it!
i agree with your review, this one IS a keeper.

tea-leesi

try it with the Vanilla Agave syrup if you want to bring out more of a vanilla flavor in the tea!!

Eh, I know that as a minty blend, I found this pretty palatable, but ultimately not really a favourite. Kind of like mint ice cream. The coconut was on the way out, so I’m glad this is now done.

Well… to nobody’s surprise, the coconut in this 6-year-old tea has gone a bit off. That said, only a bit off, so I was still willing to give it a whirl (I’ve had mixed results in the past). It’s actually not too bad – creamy coconut, and probably less mint than there once was, so more tolerable in that regard. It appears that there is a single cup of this left now, so I guess I’ll keep it somewhere nearby and hopefully take care of the last bit soon?

Yum. I’d had this a couple years ago when it first came out, and I recall enjoying it enough to have possibly bought more (don’t recall whether I actually did, though). The last of the bag ended up living at my mom’s place because she apparently liked it… except I just found out that it still exists, and is no longer a “like”, so I will be collecting it at Christmas. It will be interesting to see how the two compare.

Anyhow, this is a tasty cup of minty, creamy, somewhat fruity goodness. Definitely mostly mint and cream, though. It’s nice, because it’s an herbal blend, yet there’s no icky rooibos messing up the flavour (nor licorice, hibiscus, etc.). I don’t usually like mint, but I DO like creamy mint and chocolate mint, so this is a hit. If I remember, I’ll grab 25g or so of this before it’s gone, just to have, because it’s unique and tasty.

Drank a cup of this last night. The mint is definitely much more tolerable when softened by creaminess! Although it was sweet, my mom seemed to like it as well. She really does seem to like minty and/or citrusy things! Anyhow, yum!

So I’m not a fan of mint in tea, but as is typical, couldn’t resist picking up 10g of this anyways. I figured that I could always give away the rest, as my roommate likes mint, and my ex-roommate likes mint… (I’m pretty much the only person I know IRL who doesn’t). I’m hoping, however, that the creaminess of the coconut counteracts some of the mint ickiness so I might like this one!

The aroma is minty. Very, very, minty. So much mint. Maybe a bit of creaminess, but mostly mint. And looking in the bag? Mostly mint. A bit of coconut, but nearly all mint. Hopes slowly being dashed.

Ok… it’s not as bad as a straight peppermint tea! Hurrah! And there’s a really nice lingering creamy aftertaste that blends with the mint. This almost reminds me of mint patties. Mint is definitely the dominant flavour, but then the coconut emerges and makes everything delicious and creamy. I’m not entirely sure that I’d go so far to say that I like this one, but I can completely, 100% understand why other people do! And it’s certainly not going to go down the drain, because I can actually drink it! The only strange thing I’m noticing is a bit of a strange after-aftertaste. Can’t quite put my finger on what it is that I don’t like, but it could just be an artifact of the mint itself.

Good job, DT, this tea is quite good! I hope it sticks around! Not quite to my liking, but I’m gathering that it’s a winner for mint lovers! My personal rating on it would be in the low 70s, but it’s probably deserving of high 80s/90s (therefore no rating from me!)

ETA: Second infusion is nearly perfect! The mint drops down a bit and the creaminess develops. SO GOOD! Actually rating this one, as I did enjoy that cup!

I’m having a hard time picking up anything other than the mint…

Babble

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like mint, but I can understand since it’s such an overpowering flavor. Must be hard to buy toothpaste, though.

Kittenna

Heather – that’s strange, I definitely tasted coconut, particularly in the second infusion. Mint was certainly dominant, of course. Did you try a second infusion??

Rachel – I don’t dislike mint, per se. I don’t like steeped mint leaves (peppermint is worse than spearmint). It’s not the mintiness that’s a problem, but there’s an associated taste that really turns me off, especially in peppermint tea. Perhaps it’s because I don’t sweeten teas in general? However, teas containing mint and other flavours are often palatable to me if that aftertaste is covered up, which it is here! (It’s still not my first choice of ingredient though, haha.)

Babble

That’s how I feel about licorice and stevia. Ick ick ick.

Kittenna

Totally agree about licorice/anise/fennel! Stevia doesn’t seem to bother me though, although I don’t always like teas that include it.

Babble

I’ve tried several stevia blends and none of them have been good. DT used to put them a lot in their blends.

Plunkybug

Licorice and anything like it is a no no for me. Blech. As for send steep or follow up infusion, I didn’t have, buying will pay attention to the ratio of the ingredients on my next steep and will consider a second steeping as well.

Along with my pot of Green and Fruity last night, I decided to have a mug of Cocomint Cream. And what a delight it was, it was like having an ice cream dessert. Yumm.

This tea first got me because of the smell. I was in the store and decided to smell the winter collection teas. And honestly this one stood out the most smell-wise. It smelled like mint chocolate chip ice cream, so I had to get a 25g bag just to try it for that reason alone. When I got around to tasting it this morning I enjoyed the aroma whilst it was steeping. Then I tried it and found it quite yummy. That minty flavour is not way overpowering which is good and it just felt like I was at the ice cream parlour choosing my mint chocolate chip. I may have to go get a tin of this soon!

OMG! I LOVE this thing!!! It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! I used to brew my tea in the morning and throw it into a plastic tumbler from Starbucks. But it always made the tea taste funny.

When I ran into this double-walled glass tumbler at DAVIDsTEA, I knew I had found my one true love. It doesn’t retain the flavor of any previous teas and is super easy to clean and maintain. Plus, I don’t burn my fingers even after pouring scalding hot water into it because of the double-walls. The bamboo lid has a squishy but durable plastic underside that keeps the tea from leaking when the tumbler is jossled around.

The only con I have (and this is very minor) is that since it’s clear, I sometimes get odd looks from the security guards when I walk into work holding a glass container filled with an amber-colored liquid. Even if I just brew a black tea and add milk, they think it looks funny! So, I’m always explaining myself.

But overall, I am in absolute love!! *Swoon.

Nom nom nom. Finally finishing up my sample from the fall pack, because I ordered more!
Cinnamon is one of my favorite spices so I love finding it in teas, and marshmallow is another favorite. I think this was my favorite of the fall sampler, the pumpkin one was good as well. The marshmallow adds a hint of sweetness. It’s just a feel good cuppa!

Chocolate. What more could a girl want? This tea is yummy and chocolatey and dark and satisfying. Add a splash of milk and you really have something here. However, I don’t get a whole lot of the mint that everyone is talking about… there’s something faint in the background, but nothing that is really striking me as mint chocolate cookies or anything like that… just a pleasantly fresh finish. That’s just fine by me, since I’m not a HUGE fan of mint chocolate. :) Overall a lovely chocolate tea. Fresh, strong and delicious!

This is the last tea in my swap package from Kittenna!! Thank you soooo much for sharing all these teas with me! I’ve really enjoyed them and found some new all-time favorites. :)

I really need this highly caffeinated cup of guayusa this morning. I have not been getting enough sleep lately, and I have a big weekend full of bridesmaid dress shopping with my girls! I’m also trying on my wedding dress for the first time :D and seeing Skyfall. Woot! (For anyone who’s interested…here’s a link to my wedding dress, although I’m wearing a bejeweled belt instead of the flowery doodad that’s pictured here: http://www.jlmcouture.com/Tara-Keely/Bridal/Spring/2012/Style-2200).

The dry leaf aroma of this one is mostly guayusa. I’m not detecting much else, although there is a little cube of something beige colored in here. I let it steep for 4 minutes, and when I took the infuser basket out of the cup, there was about ¼ less water!! These guayusa leaves really soak it up I guess.

As for the taste? Well it may just be me, but this pretty much tastes like unflavored guayusa. There is a little bit of caramel-like sweetness at the beginning of the sip, but 95% of the flavor is plain guayusa. Maybe it didn’t hold onto its flavoring well? Or maybe it was lightly flavored to start with? I don’t know.

But as far as guayusas go, this is all right. That little bit of added sweetness cuts through some of the oddness of the guayusa base. I like this stuff! And I do feel more alert to boot. Thanks again to the ever generous Kittenna!!

Last tea?! Yay, good work! (I know I’m 5 months late…) I’m still working on my box from you, but I’m actually pretty close to at least having tried everything!

Kittenna

Also, I didn’t feel that there was much flavouring in this one to begin with. And since I dislike the taste of guayusa…. not a fan of this one.

In my opinion this tea tastes much better than it smells. The smell of the leaves before they are steeped was so overpoweringly spicey that I was a bit hesitant at first, but it steeps much softer and sweeter. What’s most interesting about this tea is the strange sweet aftertaste that lingers in the back of your throat after you swallow. I just love it. The fennel and ginger really come through after the first few sips, once you’ve gotten used to the sweetness of the licorice. I find fennel to be very comforting. This is a lovely “snowed in” and “getting a cold” tea. Very relaxing and warming. A lovely and tasty alternative to the traditional gingery “sick tea”.

Another fantastic tea from the Winter Collection. You don’t taste the white tea very strongly, as it really taste just like liquid-form chocolate chip cookie dough.

I ordered this from DavidsTea and the shipping was extremely fast. I have to say this tea is everything it is said to be. It really has a nice jasmine aroma followed by earthy tones and honey after tones. It makes me feel warm on a cold day like today. I would recommend it to any tea connoisseur.

I’ve had this two ways in two days, here’s my verdict…

Straight: I definitely taste more mint than coconut or apple, which is okay, but makes me wonder why I don’t just brew up some Peppermint Amour instead?

Latte’d: Much improved! With the addition of frothed milk + sweetener the coconut becomes much more noticeable. The apple, not so much, but I wasn’t really looking to taste apple anyways! I’m trying to put my finger on what the flavours remind me of… and I’d have to go with those pastel pillow mints that I always seem to find at weddings! Yep. It’s uncanny. I can almost feel one melting across my tongue as I take a sip of this latte… mmhmm.

Great review Faith! I’m planning on getting a tin of this, so its nice to know that it also works as a latte.

Sweet Canadian: it’s DELICIOUS as a latte! Now that’s the only way I drink it.

Oooh- Kentucky mints! I love those!

I finished this sample today. I was drinking this black and it was alright so I decided to try it with a touch of milk and a teaspoon of brown sugar. The milk made the creaminess shine through a bit more. As for the addition of brown sugar it tasted like it could have used either more or none at all. I usually drink my tea black, but don’t get me wrong, I do occasionally enjoy those super sweet drinks like hot chocolate, or other sweet beverages prepared for me by someone else (the occasional ignorance of sugar content is bliss).

After I drank my first cup I had the rest of the pot black, and it somehow tasted better than that initial sip. Perhaps I let it steep a tad longer? Oh! and I used much more tea leaves than I did the last time I logged this, and there is a definite improvement in the taste.

I could taste the banana both ways (black or with milk & sugar), and it was a real banana taste, rather than a candy/imitation runt flavor. The banana taste was a tad subdued, which might be a good thing, as banana is a flavor that can get to be a bit much for me.

Overall this tea is decent. It’s not something I’ll need to keep in my pantry year round, but it’s certainly one I’d try again in a sample size.

I ended up feeling the same way about Banana Dream Pie to a certain degree. I love it, it’s a great tea but it doesn’t have that long term appeal, great seasonal tea though.

canadianadia

Yes, I have deemed a good number of teas as “seasonal tea” repurchases. It’s probably a good thing though, otherwise my cupboard would be overflowing with tea (even more than it already is).

I felt so groggy this morning. I don’t think I really woke up until the middle of my workout; Which likely means I was doing completely ineffective zombie movements during the first half of my exercises like I belonged in Michael Jackson’s Thriller music video. Greaaat! It’s better than nothing I suppose, but it’s certainly not the butt-kicking cardio I intended.

As for this tea, the smell and taste of bananas are plainly recognizable. I’m not sure about the dream or cream part of the description though, but I’m drinking it plain. Perhaps the creaminess might ring a little more true with the addition of milk and/or sugar? I enjoy bananas occasionally, but I have to be in the mood for it, and I’m thinking the same might go for this tea. It’s quite good especially in the way that it captures the taste of bananas, but it’s not a “gotta have it now” kind of tea for me.

I don’t have too much experience with oolongs, but this tea is pretty palatable!
The dry leaves smell absolutely delicious and was enough to elicit an outloud “OOOOHHH!” from me.
Although it was a nicely blended tea, I really wish more of the peach flavor would come through. I liked it, but I don’t think I liked it nearly enough to make it to my shopping list. Now that I think about it though, good peach flavored teas have been rather hard to come by.
