Had this both hot and very very cold (but not iced) this afternoon. I had previously only ever tried it hot and was pleasantly surprised with the sweetness of it as it cooled.

I don’t remember a lot about this tea because it was about medicine not taste, but… I got to work this morning feeling like I was absolutely about to hurl. I got to work, brewed a very strong cuppa this and within 15 minutes I was fine. And stayed that way for like 5 hours. And now my tummy ache has returned and I wish I had bought some to take home.

When I first smelled this tea prepared it seemed like something really familiar. At first I couldn’t quite figure out what is smelled like and then BAMM! – it hit me – it smells like vanilla yogurt, with an oolong scent underneath it. It’s not like a sugary sweet vanilla that you may smell in baked goods, but there’s a sort of tangy kick to it. It may sound strange but it just smells so darn good.

Now, as for the taste, if you like stronger flavored teas, this may disappoint slightly. For a flavored tea, I thought the vanilla-yogurt (is the yogurt scent from the orchid?) would be more present, but I mainly taste only the oolong.

On the second steeping, the aroma has lost most of the vanilla-yogurtness, and the tea tastes like a weak oolong.

Overall, it is pleasantly clean, but not one that I would go out of my way to repurchase.

I forgot about this!

This was the third sample from my David’s Tea order but since I don’t really like mint, and my boyfriend does – I passed it along to him. Well, he didn’t really like it, and since I wanted something not too caffeinated with my dinner, and there was about 1.5 tsp. of this left…. it was a no-brainer.

And you know – it’s actually kind of good! I think it’s because of all the other spices in it, since like I said, I don’t really like mint on its own. But this – it’s like a mint chai, if you will. Which explains why the bf wasn’t too crazy over it – he’s not a fan of super spicy anything. I happen to love bold flavors and chai. This tea is an extra kind of fun, too, because normally with spicy flavors your mouth has a residual heat – and this fakes you out because the mint is so cooling instead.

I wouldn’t order it again because I just don’t drink mint often enough, but this was quite fun. And if I ever do want a mint tea – at least I know what I need to get!

I love flavorful mint teas. I might have to try this one.

JoonSusanna

It is definitely flavorful – I really do love the complexity of it. I think the problem I usually have with mint teas is their one-note kind of flavor. Here you definitely get more going on!

I am have to admit that I am more than a little obsessed with this tea. I am very fond of green teas in general but I have somewhat of an addiction to cinnamon. So combining green tea, cinnamon and kick of heat makes for an ultimate tea! Personally I found that I need to steep this one for 10 minutes – yes I know that sounds nuts but its a MUST otherwise you don’t get nearly enough of a cinnamon punch. With this said, the cinnamon is more of candied variety … hence the name Hot Lips.

Another well blended tea from David’s Tea. An excellent balance of apple, green tea and cinnamon make this an addictive treat that I keep going back to.

drank Big Apple by DAVIDsTEA

I am first to admit that I am a sucker for green teas but I find white tea can be hit or miss with me. So when I saw a blend of both green and white tea it certainly got my attention. The result of blending the white and green tea for a base cuts any possible bitter aftertaste from the white tea. Add to this the perfect amount of wonderful, tarty sweet apple flavor, and you get a perfect apple tea. This tea is not only amazing going down but the dried blend is so aromatic that I can’t help but smile each time I open the tin. :)

drank Big Apple by DAVIDsTEA

The last little while has been tough on my United States neighbor..including the iconic city of New York or the “Big Apple” as we like to call it.
this is my own little way of showing support to New Yorkers and other east Coasters.
I am raising a steaming cup of tea named in honor of New York in a toast to those struggling after the hurricane Sandy devastation.

I hope all of you come out of this safe and sound.

In the pouch this tea smells fresh like green apple candy also a little nutty and a tad earthy.
Once brewed it gets more rich….really warm and inviting the apple making my mouth seriously water.
I put more in and steeped longer to get more flavor from the white tea not realizing it had green tea in it as well so I am hoping it won’t become bitter.
Oh but it does smell amazing. It’s a perfect contrast to what’s going on outside.

It tastes like warm days wrapped in perfectly comfortable sweaters as rain and snow fall outside.
It has a little tartness that is just lovely and balanced with the warming effect of the tea.
It’s also refreshing and light (iced is on my mind soon!)

I did steep too long so it was a tad bitter but unlike lesser teas it did not ruin it the loveliness still comes through.

I don’t believe this will be a staple but I sure as hell will enjoy it while I have it!

From the moment I first smelled this tea I was hooked. Oolong teas in general are very smooth and adding vanilla makes for a perfect relaxing tea. Using Huang Jin Gui Oolong as the base of this tea adds a creamy note that just enhances the vanilla flavoring. After the first steep you loose most of the vanilla but its still an enjoyable cup nevertheless.

drank The Earl of Lemon by DAVIDsTEA
16 tasting notes

I will admit right off the bat that the only reason I tried this tea was because I’m an Adventure Time fan. (Earl of Lemongrab, anyone?)

The scent was pleasant and lemony, but the tea was… meh. (I suppose I could make an “UNACCEPTABLE!!!!” joke, but it’s not that bad. It’s just… well, “meh”.)

The tea itself was extremely bitter, to the point where I had a hard time drinking it. The lemon flavour did come through, though, and it was nice enough, although it wasn’t enough to offset the bitterness of the tea.

Definitely won’t be trying this one again.

drank Chocolate Chili Chai by DAVIDsTEA

I don’t know WHAT happened to this tea, but it has become absolutely awful. It used to be one of my favourites, and I still have a tin that I bought last year. The tea from that is spicy, smooth, chocolate-y, decadent, and just wonderful.

However, I went into a shop and ordered a cup and I wanted to gag. I don’t know what they did to change the recipe in the past year, or what extra flavourings they added, but it’s terrible. The taste is like… I don’t know, the only way I can describe it is that it’s like drinking an extra-disgusting Tootsie Roll.

And I went back home and brewed the chocolate chili chai that I bought last year to see if it was different, and it was infinitely better.

David’s, do yourselves a favour and don’t change or add extra things to your older teas. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, so on and so forth.

But yeah, this was just a huge disappointment.

drank Glitter & Gold by DAVIDsTEA

Ok, I’m going to try this lovely sample today from Katgolik-thank you so much! Looking at the tea, it has gold balls in it; also what looks like sugar crystals, which makes me wonder if I need to sweeten it. It smells nice and cinnamon y; nice.

Now this is done brewing, and I’m waiting for it to cool. OH WOW BABY! this tea literally glitters, like they put fake glitter in it. The glitter swirls and looks generally beautiful. I feel like if this tea is anywhere generally decent I have to buy it, simply to put in clear glass mugs and serve to my friends. GORGEOUS. How did they do that?

The tea….is just decent. I’ve had more cinnamon tea, actually. I feel like they should have added more cinnamon, and it would be PERFECT. I will probably still buy a bit of this tea, just for special occasions because of the glitter. GREAT presentation, average taste. It tastes good with soymilk, but some of the sparkle goes away when you add it.

It’s so pretty!
You are very welcome :)
Try experimenting for a stronger taste ( if it’s too light)maybe longer steep?

Michelle

The gold balls become the glitter. Della Terra does it too!

KittyKat88

really? what della terra tea has glitter in it?

Michelle

I’ve had their Peach Carousel, which did!

KittyKat88

hm ok! I actually want to buy a bunch with sparkle like this now, I love it! And I did this time increase the amount per cup, and the steeping time, and it did get a bit better. :)

drank Banana Dream Pie by DAVIDsTEA

So, this was meant to be a comfort tea. I had a less than stellar visit with my local LUSH shop this evening, ended up with a headache despite saying multiple times, no…I don’t want to try that product, especially if it has that scent which is known to be a headache trigger…but, I got duped into trying a tiny bit and within 30 minutes…BOOM…headache.

But then I was distracted by a shiny thing (the Let The Good Times Roll that I got tonight), and I oversteeped the tea. It isn’t horrible, just a bit stronger than usual. I do like this tea, but there are others I like so much better that I don’t think that I will repurchase when it is done. I might get more later, but not right now.

Uniquity

Sorry to hear that the LUSH trip went poorly! Was it sensory overload or pushy staff?

Plunkybug

Well, first, they limited the number of samples I had asked for. I bought 3 things, and they allowed me 2 samples of the 4 I was hoping for. The SAs there generally know I have sensitivities to things and would rather try a sample then buy a pot and return and have it go to waste. Secondly, yes, they were VERY pushy last night. I went in to buy 2 items, possibly 3. I have never felt so pushed by any LUSH SAs before. Lastly, they were like “you should really try Sea Spray” to which I say, sea salt dries my hair out when left in like a styling product. It’s true…it may have more volume, but it is also dry, frizzy, tangly, and nasty. The person at the cash continues to tell me the virtues of it, so I cave and ask what is the scent, because I am sensitive to certain smells, and he says it is a bit like Gorgeous. I tell the SA that the scent of that is nice, but it is too strong for me. But they keep pushing, telling me to try some on my hair before I leave. So I was like, “ok, at least I am off work tomorrow if this gives me a migraine” and go over to the hair area where the other SA is, look at the bottle and see glycerin in the list and am like, “I really should not try this. Glycerin, like salt, dries my hair out badly” so then the one says to just try it in a small area, so I do, and I am immediately hit by the smell and have to leave there asap. I get headache before I even get home. If I tell them I can get a headache from it, they should have stopped right there. I should have stood my ground more. I shouldn’t have caved to their pressure like that.

Uniquity

Oh wow, that sounds terrible. I’ve had some pushy LUSH staff before but since I don’t have any scent sensitivities I just get annoyed rather than a migraine. I hope that you can clear the headache quickly and next time (if there is one) is more positive! It’s so tricky in late November/December when staff everywhere are on high alert to make sales.

Plunkybug

Normally they’re all pretty good and easygoing. I have had issue with that particular store before, which is a shame as it is closer than the mall location. But it has been a while.

drank Banana Dream Pie by DAVIDsTEA

So, this is one that I had to had to try, because I love chocolate teas, and I do like bananas. I liked Banana Nut Bread, but not Dulce and Banana so much, and I think that the Banana Oolong had stevia, so I shied away from that one. But anyways, this one is <3 dreamy <3 in all its chocolatey banana goodness.

Dry leaf, it smells warm and rich and chocolatey with a bit of the banana cream pie after note. Actually, the smell kinda reminds me of Nilla wafers with pudding and bananas. Brewed, it is pretty true to taste, though I did add milk and sugar. Milk made it creamy like the pie, and the sugar just tweaked the sweetness up a little. I ought to try this alone to judge the taste better, but I pretty much always add milk and sugar to my teas. It is not as heavy and rich as Chocolate Orange Pu Erh, and is a little reminiscent of Checkmate, but a little heavier than that…I’d say that it is somewhere between Checkmate and Love Tea #7.

I have to say that I think the 10g bag I got is gonna go pretty fast, and I will need to get a bigger bag soon.

Long time no see Fellow Tea drinker ! Been a busy month looking for a new job not lot of tea drinking as been made now that the job is found stress level get lower and tea come back in mind.

I was happy to see that one not enough banana thing are made but the more flavoured tea i drink the more i hate them there always seem to have weird taste in them when it’s a ingredient i know i don’t like in tea (apple or hibiscus) well that a chance i take but there is other like this one all ingredient i love but still a weird taste i can’t identify like a spice making it barely able to finish the cup.

It does taste banana but nothing near banana pie ( or chocolat or any of the other ingredient for that matter) and that weird taste i get in the background with each sip they smell so good i just want to love them but it don’t happen ! Straight tea it’s gonna be for me they rarely disappoint me.

like with the other i’m gonna finish my sample in hope my note will change but it’s never do maybe i’m just not made for flavored tea

David’s Tea can cause problems for some people. My Mom can’t even go into the store because she’ll get a migraine. So I really don’t buy their tea anymore. Except for Pumpkin Chai :D

Autistic Goblin

Try some from Butiki Teas, Verdant Tea, 52teas or Red Leaf Tea they are much better and don’t (as far as I know) cause any problems like weird flavouring or migraines :D

Ysaurella

congratulations for your new job, hope it looks like what you were expecting.
Regarding tea, welcome back !

Zoltar

I seem to have a problem with most flavored maybe it’s come from the oil most use to make the flavor i don’t know :P I do like some of them ( mostly from Della terra teas for a reason i don’t know) but even the one i like i nearly never get the "I need to do a reserve of that one "

Zoltar

@Ysaurella Thank :) I did sure miss my tea :P but my mind was just not in it. Would have been a disrespect for the tea lol

Zoltar

@Helena will try some of them but i have to clean some of my sample first lol got really really little place for tea ( probably have more that i should but that a common problem here ;) ) i’m more in the way of making some permanent tea reserve for now and after starting tasting other tea again. having some reserve of tea i like is important if i don’t want to be left with only tea i don’t lol

Autistic Goblin

hehe I have waaay too much tea. It’s why we’re on steepster I think :D I forgot to say Congratulations on the job… so CONGRATULATIONS! :D

Yum. Not wow, but yum. Definitely a dark chocolate thing going on, and it smells like a combinaiton of cocoa and hot candies. I did find it a little on the dark side for my taste; I’m a milk chocolate girl, but definitely yummy. The chili isn’t over-powering (I’m a bit of a spice wimp) but it’s enough for you to notice. Reminds me of the mexican hot chocolate they serve at a local coffee shop here. I never would have bought it if they weren’t servings samples at DAVIDs, but after trying it, I picked up a small amount to bring home. Definitey gives you a warm toasty feeling inside. Not the best flavoured tea EVER, but definitely something I will keep around, especially for the holidays. :)

I used 1.5 David’s Tea scoops for my Aqua-Ovo tea tumbler.

The smell of the dry leaf really reminds me of “Love Tea #7” by David’s Tea.

The aroma of the brewed tea is primarily a light chocolate with definite black tea undertones.

On the sip I am getting a full chocolately taste. I am getting a bit of a vegetable-earthy taste- kind of like taking a bite out of a red pepper. I’m guessing that this is the result of the different types of chili included in the blend. I don’t feel that the earthy taste really complements this mix, especially with such a strong chocolate taste. The black tea taste is mostly present at the end of the sip and rounds out the chocolate/earthy flavour. There is a little bit of spice present on the beginning of the sip and in the aftertaste (kind of a tingly feeling on my tongue).

This tea was good all the way through even as it cooled to room temperature.

Studying is not all that bad because it gives me an excuse to brew as many cups of tea as I like. The number is unashamedly high.
I’ve had this blend a number of times and I love it! I’m a sucker for herbal teas and particularly ones that are fruity. I loved it so much that I’m down to the very last scoops of my 50g bag already.
That being said, if you plan on buying this tea, be sure to mix up the dry leaves and berries up before scooping it to brew. I guess the tiny black currants settled down to the bottom of the bag and the bigger pieces tend to stay on the very top. This last batch I made is considerably more sour and not as tasty as when more of the sweeter fruit pieces and strawberry leaves were in the mix. It won’t deter me from buying more though, I will have this knowledge for the next time!

This is harsh. It smells harsh and it tastes harsh. I am admittedly a DavidsTEA fanboy, but this tea is just so sharp, it’s comparable to drinking soap or perfume. I’ve read good things about their Cream of Earl Grey tea, so I think I’ll try to pick that up next time I’m in a David’s. Hopefully it will be better than this.

I really liked this tea. When I picked it up from DT, I originally asked for only 15 grams so that I could just try it, but after I smelled it I upped it to 25 grams and I’m glad I did. This tea tastes really good. It reminds me of banana bread with chocolate chips. I only brewed it for 5 minutes and it was a tad weak for me, I think I will take the suggestion already posted on here about brewing it for longer. I found this tea was quite sweet and did not need any additional sugar, but I did add a dash of half and half. Made me think of banana bread with whipped cream. Mmmm.

When I brewed this, I put it in my tea ball in a clear mug and walked away. When I returned, I was shocked to see that the water was quite cloudy and there were bits of sediment in the liquor. Turns out the banana pieces actually dissolved. I’m sure this contributes to the banana taste, I just wasn’t expecting it!

I find it hard to understand why this one is so under-rated… however after reading the temperature and steeping times, I can see why it is problematic. My husband and I had these puppies last night proper gong fu style. We popped two tuo chas into our pre-heated yixing clay teapot and did a pour of just boiling water. We then poured off the water to rinse the tea. Then we did a low pour and let it steep for 30 seconds and the poured it into the erving pitcher so you get a UNIFORM tea. This is very important with puerh teas because they are SO strong and heavy on the sediment. We then poured it into the aroma cups (the taller ones) and did the fancy flip thing where you put the tasting cup on top and invert them. You then pick up the aroma cup and the spray from breaking the vacuum releases all the aroma. The first steeping smelled like dirt and was a bit bitter, but this is to be expected from a puerh tea! The first steeping is ALWAYS the worst. After drinking that pot we then reboiled the kettle and refilled the pot with hot water, this time steeping it for a full 60 seconds. This time the aroma was less woodsy and far more sweet. The taste improved DRASTICALLY with the second steeping. The third steeping was better again, and the tea had lost ALL of its bitter dirty flavour and was smooth as silk, and remarkably sweet. It was so comforting and delicious. The fourth steeping was very much like the third, but slightly sweeter again. The fifth and sixth steepings were still very solid and strong flavour, but they were a bit on the waning side, and definitely not as bold. We stopped at the 6th steeping but you can definitely keep on going and get a great cup of tea. Puerhs hold up VERY well to multiple steepings, and this one is no exception. Don’t over-steep them though because you will get an extremely astringent, bitter brew. The third and fourth steepings are usually the best of the bunch. This puerh is definitely not my favourite in the world, but as far as puerhs go it was very solid. Delicious and comforting, with a great aroma. Just make it to the third and fourth steepings before you judge, and mix it up well so you get a uniform taste. :)

First time trying a flavoured oolong. I quite enjoyed it, but then again, I’m a freak for vanilla, especialy if it’s high quality. The oolong tea in this one is mild with a relatively low oxidation, and the liquor is very clear. It smells like heaven in a cup. Very low astringency, and mild on the finish. It tastes just how it smells and is all around delicious. My only complaint is that it doesn’t hold up to multiple steeps well; even the second steeping was significantly lacking in flavour, and the third was very weak despite steeping for nearly 10 minutes. Overall a delicious tea though, and the vanilla and oolong are a fabulous pairing!
