Made a big cup of this in my new DavidsTea mason jar…holy cow this sucker is huge! But onto the tea. I agree with the other reviewers who said it’s like a creamier Read My Lips, but it doesn’t have the chocolate aspect, which makes me very happy. The girl in store told me it tastes like Santa’s Secret, which it does…to a point. The mint is more…minty than Santa’s Secret, and it doesn’t seem to have the same vanilla creaminess. So I guess it’s more creamy than Read My Lips but less creamy than Santa’s Secret. I only get the faintest hint of coconut. Overall, I love it and if I ever run out of Santa’s Secret, I’m glad to know I can fall back on this. However, I won’t be stocking up any time soon, because I already have so many teas that are so similar (Read My Lips, Santa’s Secret, Cocomint, to name a few)
Got this iced and to-go when I found myself in DAVIDs. I went to the mall to buy gloves and somehow that resulted with me buying more tea. I almost grabbed 10 g of this but tbh, I am glad I didn’t. I remember this smelling and tasting like fruit loops when I tried my roommates cup but today it was grassy and a bit too heavy on the bergamot. Oh well, one less tea for me to dream about.
Somehow finding a way to scrape up enough money to “just buy ONE more tea” is why I need to avoid the mall…it’s also why I’m so unbelievably broke :P
Sorry to hear it was a disappointment.
VariaTEA – that’s too bad you didn’t like it. I really like it hot – I find it soothing.
And OMG, Sil. I guess you can buy that one bulk for a discount?
If there was a fruit loop tea I’d be all over that ish. In related news, apparently all colors of fruit loops taste the same. My childhood was destroyed upon learning that.
Fruit Loop flavoured tea? :P Yuuuck. My brother used to love that cereal, but I never cared for it. Something about fruit flavoured cereals.
Me? I’m more of a Special K or Honey Bunches of Oats kinda girl. Although right now cereal repulses me because I overdid it on eating it for about half a year :P loool
Oh yeah, nowadays I love Honey Nut Cheerios but I want to try a fruit loop tea just once to take me back to the 80s. lol
@Roswell Strange – I just picked up some bamboozled at DAVIDs. It will be my first bamboo tea so we will see how that goes. (Just FYI, your love of Buddha Bamboo made me want to try a bamboo tea so I am blaming you if I don’t like it :P)
Bamboozled was DELICIOUS cold brewed (didn’t have it hot, my sample was too small) – just FYI. Very juicy and refreshing.
Another tea in my cupboard that I forgot even existed. Geez I need to keep more on top of my collection, but I guess that’s what happens when you really amass a collection. I think I might have scalded the leaves a bit, accidentally, but they seem to be doing decently regardless (thank goodness, I was worried I’d end up with a bad cup….)
Upon first scent, the rose is what hit me first, along with a bit of sweetness from the pomegranate. Taste-wise, I’m getting the vegetable flavour from the tea mainly, but it’s balanced nicely with the rosy and pomegranate notes.
I don’t know if I’d call myself fully seduced, but I’m certainly enjoying the cups. More on a friendship level, but I’d be glad to get to know it better for sure. :)
Preparation
I finally decided to try this after receiving it as a sample with one of my DT orders and reading not so great reviews about it.
I steeped it according to directions, 1 teaspoon in 8 ounces of boiling water over 4 minutes.
I don’t really know what to say because this is first time I’m drinking straight Assam, knowing that it’s Assam. I don’t really know what Assam should taste like. This one tastes ok I guess, but doesn’t blow my socks off. There is a little sweetness to it, as well as some malt and floral notes that I like. There is also astringency typical to tea and I like that as well. What I’m not crazy about is the strong aftertaste and the dry mouth feel it leaves me with every sip.
I’m going to defer my rating for now because I think I’m not qualified to talk about quality of this Assam. Not until I have more experience. I can say though that a good Assam is probably something I would really enjoy so I can’t wait to finish this sample and branch out… see what else is out there. :)
Preparation
I recently rediscovered Earl Grey, thanks to a sampler box my best friend gifted me for Christmas. Something about Earl Grey with milk and sugar just makes me happy in the mornings!
I had a little packet of David’s Cream of Earl Grey sitting in my tea cupboard, and decided to have some at work this morning. Dry, the leaves smell creamy and there’s a lot of floral (though, thankfully not as much as in the China Rose Petal tea!). Steeped, it retains that bakery-like scent, even after the addition of milk and sugar. Tastewise, this tea is only lightly floral with a thick, smooth feel to it.
I can’t wait to order more of this!
Preparation
I love to try new tea. I love ginger. I do NOT love this tea, and I don’t taste any ginger at all. All I taste is pepper, pepper, and more pepper (and I’m not a pepper hater; I love Chili Chai for example). Tried brewing up two cups, just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. Nope!
I’m so glad I only got this as part of a spice trio. Will not buy it again.
Preparation
Sipdown!! (158)
Thank you Cavocorax for sharing this with me. This tastes like a typical herbal tea, minty and nice but not something I ever crave. For that reason, it won’t be a restock but it is certainly enjoyable enough.
Preparation
Haha. It seems like I am an alcoholic. If it makes you feel any better, I have emptied out my sipdown box (with the exception of one tea) which means sipdowns won’t be so easy anymore.
I think I am destined to drink this tea cooled as this is the second time I have made it and got distracted before I could drink it hot. Luckily it is still tasty despite not being hot. It is minty and lemony with a hint of hibiscus tartness. It is not something I would typically reach for but it is in no way offensive. And I think it definitely helps put me to sleep. Thank you Cavocorax for sending this my way.
Preparation
I brewed this up because it is a tea that I had from my first swap with Cavocorax and yet I still had not tried it. I have put it off because multiple people have told me how it really relaxes you and puts you to sleep and it seemed like every time I remembered it, I needed to be alert. Today, though I was working on an assignment, I decided to finally make it. Unfortunately I did not get around drinking it until it got cold. Luckily, it is not bad cold. It tastes like most other herbals though the mint is quite nice. I shall hold off on rating this until I tried it properly. Thank you Cavocorax. Now if only future shop could answer my call so I can let this take me away to dreamland.
Preparation
I told a friend I was drinking this tea and he said “… isn’t mistletoe poisonous?” That was an interesting moment or two. The first link that popped up in google was all “OMG don’t eat any part of it ever you could DIEEE”… but they wouldn’t be allowed to put it in tea if it were deadly, would they? Aaaanyway…
Got a sample of this from Janelle because I was super curious to try it… and it’s pretty tasty! I’m not getting very much anise at all (which is great because I don’t like anise). It smells like cloves and vanilla and craisins, and tastes much the same, but I do get a little green tea and something kinda interesting that must be the mistletoe. Mmm… I’m glad I got the chance to try it. =]
Wow, this is lovely! Beautiful orange taste, super citrusy with the right amount of vanilla in the background to balance it out. Reminds me a lot of Orange Dolce from Mighty Leaf, which was stronger in taste but I also adored.
Maybe I have a soft spot for orange teas…hmm, I should get more of them!
Thank you to the ever so lovely keychange for this tea! ♥♥♥ You are absolutely wonderful!
Preparation
The marketing for this was a big part of why I liked it! http://www.davidstea.com/orange-blossom
It’s unicorn tea! (so silly)
@keychange: It couldn’t have been possible without you! :)
@Sil: Give it a try – it’s delicious! If you like citrus tea, you won’t be disappointed.
@Cavo: I just simply adore that picture – it’s partly the reason why I wanted to try the tea haha :P
I love this one, especially for evenings when I don’t want caffeine. It’s rare I find a rooibos tea I like, but this is one. I try to have some on hand all the time for when the mood strikes.
Sample from Janelle. :) And, as usual, I think I ate half the dried fruit before I ever had a chance to steep the tea. I don’t even like dried fruit that much — I have a friend who just keeps it around all time, all sorts, and I’ve never felt the need to do that. But somehow when I open up a tea, just to smell it, no really… I always end up nibbling on the apples and cranberries and papayas… >.<
I could probably figure out what I think about this tea, but at the moment my feelings are pretty much just “meh, good enough”. It’s been an unexpectedly long day. (Today I learned that when I start crying in corpse pose, my tears trickle down the sides of my face and collect in my ears… it’s quite the strange feeling… >.< )
More detailed note to follow, when I am somewhat more coherent. (… she says, for the millionth time…)
If you’re a fan of fruity scents and are looking for an easy steeper kind of tea, then this one might be perfect for you! It’s a forgiving tea that is light in flavor (and rich in scent) and won’t leave you with a repulsed look on your face and a bitter taste sitting on your tongue if you’re too lazy to take the tea bag out or forgetful (and if you’re like me, you’re both). The fruity notes of apple, mango and pineapple are uplifting and create an amazing chemistry (since they are all juicy fruits – Yum!). I love it best when it’s finished steaming though still warm enough for you to slurp down with comfort and ease. It’s caffeine free and easy to drink. I recommend this to those who are huge fans of these fruits. Do try it out!
Preparation
More and more I fear I may just not be a chai fan. I gave this tea a second shot tonight and it is really just not a hit with me. I get a bit of dusty chocolate flavour and a lot of chili heat on my tongue, but it was just not great in my world. I think that his is really just not the tea for me. Which is actually fine, because so many of them are the tea for me!
I really like this. It’s really funny seeing all of Roswell Strange’s tasting notes on all of the teas that I have been trying, but I guess it makes sense since I received it from her/him (?). Anyway, it’s nice, citrisy, and bright. I might hold off on buying this one though until I start bringing in some more money.
Preparation
Well blast.
I took one sip of this and it just sucked. However, it is kind of my fault that it sucked, because I didn’t look at the directions before hand. I had assumed that it was a black tea, so boiling water on. And let it steep for to long. Total noob move there, lynxie. So will have to remember for next time.
Unfortunately, all the big chunks end up on top, and all the tea ends up on the bottom. This means that if you just scoop from the top, your drink sorta just ends up tasting like a watery, faintly sour tisane and it’s pretty boring.
If you manage to scoop actual tea into it, you get more of the added flavourings as well, and the actual tea taste helps balance and lend a good base, and then overall I rather like this tea.
Of course, this is my very last cup of it—which is why I can say all of this, because I’ve finally gotten to the bottom of the bag where all the actual tea is.
The pear isn’t too bad; it isn’t overcome by the tart cranberry, anyways. It’s sweet and nice, and I DO like pear.
I smelled it in the store and was a little underwhelmed – it just didn’t seem like anything special to me. Glad you liked it though, I might just give it a try next time!
I’m actually kind of surprised they even came out with this one, since you’re right, they already have quite a few similar ones.
Yvonne, I’m a sucker for mint, I had to try it, but like Fjellrev said, there’s already quite a few similar ones in their line up. Still, I did enjoy it! It’ll be no hardship to drink what I have.
I’m personally not overly crazy about mint, and would rather just keep Bigelow’s Mint Medley around the house because I grew up with that, so it’s got a comfy feeling.
I have tons of tummy troubles, so having a variety of mint teas on hand helps keep me sane. I love food but food doesn’t love me LOL
I don’t know you at all, but saw you have dT’s mason jar, and I already feel as though we’re kindred spirits because how can’t you love that thing. Now I’m also going to try this tea.
XD I love it! But I would warn everybody not to try a new tea in it because if you don’t like it, you’ve got three cups of it, ha! But it’s even edging out my elephant perfect mugs as my favorite mug. So much love for it!
