I had one of those weird “tea fanatic” experiences this morning. 2 servings of this tea, Eight Candles, left. Do I sip down, when I truly need to get my tea stash under control, or squirrel away a serving for later, cuz I like this tea.
Sigh. My stash insanity won, so sip down it is!
8 Candles came out kind of graham cracker sweet for me today. actually really sweet, since it was the bottom of the package, which was more loaded with sugary bits than usual. Pretty good and s’more like, but with caramel.
(see previous notes for review)
I mindlessly sipped away at this tea this morning while I worked on my crochet pattern stuff.
Last night I was so tired after brazilian jiu jitsu, but I needed to buy soymilk after class. I saw chocolate soy was onsale and I bought that instead of buying the usual stuff – now I’m stuck with chocolate milk for everything!
I wanted a pancake for breakfast and it was made with chocolate soy – I figured Eight Candles would match. I almost had S’mores, but I have more of Eight Candles. It was a very caramel, marshmallowy chocolate morning!
Preparation
For black friday, I snagged 2oz of this tea vs the usual sample sizes, I figured I’d dig this tea. I’m finally getting around to trying it, I’m a little down today (I’ve been knitting way too many mini mittens and socks for tree ornaments) so I thought this could perk me up.
The tea is really cute with the blue stars, silver sugar balls and mini marshmellows!
Steeped, smells a little caramelly with a bit of film on the top.
Taste is a great smooth, sweet, marshmellowy with a sugary spun caramel aftertaste. The black tea base adds depth and is not bitter.
Overall, pretty yummy! Della Terra has always been pretty solid. I’d love some more creamyness in this, but is pretty good as is! Next time I’m going to steep with a vanilla bean pod and see how it goes.
I’d love to have this tea on my papasan chair, snuggling away. Actually, I’m going to do that right now and play pokemon!
Preparation
Backlogging a bit. I like this but I don’t love it, so it’s somewhat of a bummer that I accidentally ordered an extra 2oz bag of it. It’s very true to it’s name, you can taste and smell both the fruity zing of the raspberry and the rich chocolate. There’s a chocolate shop back where I grew up called Munson’s and my favorite thing from them is their milk chocolate raspberry creams. I think this is actually fairly similar, but it’s more of a dark chocolate flavor. I’ll drink it and I’ll enjoy it, but there are other teas I enjoy more.
Yum yum yum! So glad to be sitting at my desk with this lovely cup of heaven right now. It smells very much like it’s name, it’s caramel but with a mix of creaminess so it’s not the sticky sweet smell that accompanies caramel square candies. I’m drinking it now that it’s cooled down because I feel the flavor is stronger and more detectable when it’s a little cooler. It doesn’t taste much like any caramel I’ve had before but I still adore it, it’s a slightly sweet, rich, creamy, taste and feel. It’s cozy tasting, I can’t quite put my finger on it.
Eight Candles is the same tea but with marshmallow I believe and I thought that when drinking that I tasted more of the marshmallow but it is SO similar to this that I guess it’s Della Terra’s version of caramel that comes through in both. Either way, I really really love it and am glad that I have it with me today.
Today I had a dentist appointment to receive a filling and have a tooth extraction which is a huge step for me as I hate dentists. It’s nothing personal but my childhood dentist scarred me for life (for reasons I shall keep to myself for the time being) and it’s taken me a few years to pluck up the courage to visit. The work went well but I was horrified when I was given a care leaflet about looking after the blood clot where the extraction took place. The leaflet stated NO HOT TEA! I have been into my black tea’s as of late and my heart broke into two pieces.
I visited my mum as she lives not far from the dentists practice and she said a parcel arrived for me (I get parcels sent to my mums address as she is always in). My Della Terra order had arrived after I went crazy on Black Friday ordering stuff, it was the light at the end of my dreary tunnel.
The only tea that told me to brew less than boiling was this one which made it perfect to try first since it’s the only one suitable for the next 24 hours.
Anyway I’m starting to ramble so I will get to my review.
The loose tea smells very chocolatey though not specifically white but I can see spots of white chocolate flakes amongst the brown chopped up leaves.
Once brewed the tea forms a dark honey colour that smells as chocolatey as the loose mix.
I have been waiting all day to have a cup of tea and it’s now 5:33pm. My first sip and I can taste chocolate mixed in with a slightly malty and earthy Pai Mu Tan tea. It’s a nice mixture but I still wouldn’t say this was specifically white chocolate, it just has the generic chocolate smell. Perhaps I’m being a little picky as white chocolate is my favourite.
It’s almost like a hot chocolate but without the milk and creaminess aspect. It sweetens the more you drink and the malt flavour blends in more.
Happy with the blend overall, it reminds me of Maltesers but in tea form. :) It helps ease my days pain.

Took this out and about with me today. Even on the weekend I can’t seem to get away from work issues! Since it wasn’t a holiday in the US we for sure had system issues AGAIN and i was for sure sitting in a craft show taking care of system problems. So glad i had some tea with me. Picked this up recently as it’s not a bad little tea to get occasionally from della terra. Not one i need stocked ALL the time but it’s a decent one to cycle through occasionally.
Quick cup of this before heading out into the evening to enjoy the lights and scene that is our winter holiday christmas market :) Mostly it’s just an excuse for me and my other half to get out and spend some relaxing time together. I am starting to enjoy this a bit more than at first. The vanilla isn’t quite as strong as i’d like it to be.
Guess I never came back to write something about this tea. I’m sick. It’s official. Staying home today and refusing to do work. Not that I’ve been able to sleep but whatever. Made myself a cup of this as it was basically the first one in my sample basket that I touched.
This is actually an alright tea. My main problem with della terra, besides teh chocolate Thing is that I seem to only be able to get a tasty cup when I double up on the leaf. Even then it’s still a fairly average cup of tea when I compare it to something like butiki’s flavoured teas. Do I like della terra better than say David’s Tea or Adagio? Omg yes! But I still feel like most of their tea is good for that initial “looking for sometif fun to drink occasionally” rather than a “here’s a staple I always want in my cupboard” if that makes sense. So sample sizes for me seems to be the way to go! Tank goodness for try me packs!
As for this tea? It’s on the better end :) there’s a nice creamy caramel flavour that’s going on without any weird astringency. I know my nose etc is all stuff up but this is good.
Wishing you speedy recovery! Agree with you that there is a difference between a tea that’s fun to try versus one you want to have around to drink regularly. Samples are fantastic and I’ll be much more likely to try a new company if it offers them. Teavivre, Butiki, Harney&Sons, Simpson & Vail, Golden Moon and Teajo are all companies I have been lured to partly because of the opportunity for well-priced sample sizes. Best is when every tea is offered in a sample size, but I also appreciate the companies who throw in a freebie or 2 with your order.
Holy delicious. For someone who isn’t really into fruity teas, this one took me by surprise! It reminds me of having a bowl of very freshly picked blueberries and a scoop of vanilla yogurt on the side.
The dry leaves smell like blueberry vanilla FROSTING but once brewed, it smells more fruity and the vanilla isn’t as intensely sweet as it smells. I taste more fruitiness than vanilla, so fruit tea lovers will still like this, but the vanilla makes it creamy and decadent so dessert tea lovers will enjoy it too! I left my tea ball with the steeped leaves in it in a cup on my desk and I came back in after an appointment and my office smelled like an incredible summery dessert.
I love the chocolaty, creamy, caramel type dessert teas, but this one will be added to my favorites. I also forget that it’s a rooibus, since there is NO medicinal taste to it at all. Winner.
Why is this rating not higher?? It legit tastes just like those chocolate covered oranges that you smack while they’re in the foil and they break into slices. I feel like I don’t drink enough dessert teas with fruit in them, just the caramel chocolate marshmallow cake kind of things. This is delectable, the orange flavor is really apparent, it’s the first thing I notice.
I can’t quite smell the orange in the brewed cup of tea, but it smells VERY milk chocolaty. The chocolate flavor is a little more subtle, you get a malty feel with a fruity flavor. I like this balance, I’m going to enjoy this tea a lot!
SIPDOWN! god i love a clean tea cupboard. All sort of productive tea drinking going to be happening…oh yes! Downgrading this because as i’ve come to learn, della terra chocolate and i rarely get along. this has got some blechy chocolate taste going on with the mint that is just not my happy place.
it’s chocolate…it’s mint. Probably one of the few chocolate teas from della terra that I don’t mind but it’s nothing special. Happy to have tried it but it won’t warrant another purchase as there are numerous chocolate mint teas out there.
I think I like this one better than read my lips.mmthe last time I had read my lips there was that oily film on the top of the tea that happens with a bunch of David’s teas. So it kinda turned me off.
Sip down! Mostly because I knew I had only one sil sized cup left and because I’ve added a few teas to my cupboard from the travelling tea box so that I can sample them later and not hold up the box. Took enough for a cup or so (maybe two to share with Terri) and ill sample those later. It also lets me get a sense of how much room is left or isn’t, in the box. I was going to try and fit things into a smaller box since there was room at the top, but I have too many things to add to share lol
This one is an occasional rebus for me though I like lime chiffon and orange and cream better. Sometimes you just need a little lemon on your life :)
last cup of the evening and very nearly a sipdown! Looking forward to finishing this one off so that i can focus on my delicious lime chiffon and orance and cream from della terra!
We’ll have to consolidate our order since i find even when i try new teas in my order because of the discounts i can usually only get to about 25$ worth of tea lol
I had exactly this experience this morning with two beloved teas, which are now gone (one forever, I expect.) but its time to control that stash!
I’ve been there, and I understand the appeal of saving that one last cup, but OTOH, if you save it you risk it getting stale. Why not enjoy it now while it’s still really enjoyable?
At least, that’s what I tell myself.
This tea will be coming back out this Holiday season :)
