I bought a single serving of this to try which was 1.5 grams. I sifted the matcha. It sifted easily, perhaps because of the small amount? The colour before whisking was dark green. Whisking produced a good amount of foam. Flavour was good, but not great, in part due to the reduced amount from one package. I used approximately 120 mL of water. Little remained in the cup after drinking. There was a clean finish. Perhaps two single packets might be used. The powder easily left the package as well. In other words it was easy to use.
I have been wanting to try this for so long. When I first heard of it, I checked the website and it said you could buy it at Whole Foods. Well, none of the ones within two hours of me had it! That was a few years ago. I went in to one on Friday and found it! The price was way too high so it took it to be scanned and found out that they had the wrong price on the shelf.
I usually have one piece of chocolate with my matcha. I have done that two or three times now and I can’t even taste this matcha. I tried it by itself and it is good but not as good as I had thought it would be. It is a little too tame. It was harvested in 2015 and expires 2017 according to the tin. It is smooth, it is creamy, but the flavor is not as pronounced as I would like. I also get much better froth from my Tanabata from Red Leaf and from KaiMatcha Premium.
It is good enough that I would certainly buy it again if I ran out of matcha and wanted some fast, but I will be just as happy with some of the other matcha teas I have found.
My son and his fiancé and my eldest daughter all tried it and liked it and agreed that it is mild and drinkable even for matcha newbies.
This matcha is serviceable, but costs too much for what you get for me to really recommend it. It tastes great blended, and that’s what I will be relegating it to. I will be writing up a more in-depth review on my blog regarding it. If you are looking for medium-grade matcha at a lower price to start, try ito en or Lupicia (specifically Ujitawara), or even Red Leaf Tea (look for unflavored as a start. Flavored matcha sounds like fun for dessert and blends).
Very good Matcha tea. This is a 2nd harvest that deserves great credit. Bright Green color, has a slight sweetness but not really bitter. Most 2nd Harvests have more antioxidants than Ceremonial grade but lack as much L-theanine and sweetness. However, most ceremonial grade matcha that I have tried are not much different than this tea. Also happens to be a great bargain. About $30 on Amazon for 2.8 ounces of matcha.
Of all the different brands of matcha I’ve tried, this one is by far the frothiest. The resulting brew is robust, thick and bright green. Flavorwise it’s quite grassy and vegetal tasting. I have to dilute it in order to drink it straight. But it’s great for matcha-based drinks and in cooking where you want the green tea flavor to stand out.
I picked this up in my local organic market. I’ve had this packet in my cupboard a long time. Yet when I opened it, the powder was bright green. I mixed it up in my milk frother the way I always make matcha. Sadly, it didn’t whisk completely and there were little bits of compacted matcha in my cup. Not a lot of them, but still. There shouldn’t be any, especially from a ceremonial grade matcha. The classic grade matcha I buy from Red Leaf Tea never has clumps when I prepare it the same way.
The flavor is full-bodied and grassy. It’s very different from Red Leaf Tea’s matcha. This one tastes greener and grassier, like a cup of liquid fresh cut grass. It’s more akin to sencha than any other matcha I’ve tasted. Ooh yuck, big clump. Okay, I am not a fan of this one. There are quite a few clumps in here after all. Although the flavor is okay, the consistency is off. I think I’ll stick with Red Leaf Tea for my matcha fix.
Flavors: Freshly Cut Grass
Okay, it’s not quite that bad, but my head is pretty zoomy right now. Luckily, as with all the other times I’ve drank matcha it’s a handle-able zoom.
I am definitely alert and awake now.
I brought my lesser liked of the two matcha bowls I have and my old whisk and spare scoop to work, along with half of my tin of matcha. It actually worked pretty well, except for sifting. I tried bringing the rinsing screen thing I got with my gaiwans to use as a sifter, but the screen is too fine, and it just clogged up. I need a second sifter for work, I guess.
Haha and again I haven’t had this tea in ages. I needed a matcha bowl after lunch and a really hard run this morning – it was way too hot than my body is used to for running haha so I burned a lot of energy in this beautiful weather. I also have to do a bunch of yard work today so I need a bit of an energy boost.
For this being 2 years old, it made a surprisingly wonderful froth in the bowl. I whisked it up straight just with water, no additions. I thought the bitterness at the start was from it being old but I see I noted it in the previous review, so might just be the matcha. It is getting creamier near the end of the bowl :) I have been storing this in the foil bag in the tin tightly that I got it in, and in the fridge, so I’m hoping it’s still pretty fresh! Feels good, tastes good. Now off to my flowerbeds. See previous notes on this tea.
I haven’t had matcha in AGES, actually not since I partook in a tea ceremony last spring, and I bought this one on our trip and haven’t yet tried it. Until this morning :) my whisking skills are a bit less than great since it’s been so long, but I managed to make a fairly decent bowl of this in the morning. A bit bitter at first, but that is mostly my tastebuds not having had matcha for a long time, let alone unflavored. This is actually my first unflavored I have made at home too!
Anyways, it was quite savory with a rich mouthfeel, and nice grass/spinach flavor. Next time I will use a little less matcha to avoid the small bit that collected at the end of the bowl. It also made me feel excellent and happy this morning. I need to drink this more often again!
I used to drink a lot of Matcha, but lately not so much. I think my switch to Organic about a year ago has done me in. I tried some non-organic on a whim today and loved it. As soon as I got home, I tried my DO Matcha organic, and it just isn’t as good. Super vegetal without any of the natural sweetness, not to mention a bit too bitter.
This is the first ceremonial grade matcha I’ve had and I bought a larger tin of it (2.8 oz) which lasted quite a while. I will say that upon opening a larger bag the tea powder will get a bit dusty in the air and the bag itself has multiple servings that adhere to the inside of the bag it would seem. The flavor is bright and floral at first but as with a larger batch oxidation will occur over time with frequent openings.
Over the years I’ve tasted pretty much every kind/brand of (green) matcha I could get my hands on and this one is by far the best I’ve ever tasted, I drink it everyday.
It has a very smooth taste, no bitter aftertaste whatsoever, a very thick froth and a deep emerald green color. Plus it’s the best thing for your health, keeps me going.

LOVE! I’ve tried a lot of different Matcha … and I’ve enjoyed most of the ‘premium’ brands out there that I’ve tried. They’re amazing. But even though I’ve managed to find many “new” favorites and new loves with matcha, DoMatcha was my first “love” and I still love it. It’s a really exceptional Matcha. One of the best you can find. You can find many great Matcha out there, this is one of them. I’m not going to say one is better than another, I’ll just say that this one belongs in the “great” category.
Bright, fresh, lively flavor. Beautiful color. Lots of froth. Sweet, vegetal, bittersweet (think bittersweet chocolate), I love that it’s organic. A really good Matcha.

It is starting to get hot in the desert so my afternoon hot tea is going to probably stop pretty soon lol. I will start doing more iced tea and chilled Matcha lattes!!
I have actually had this Matcha for a very long time and have kept it sealed tight in my fridge. It still smells and tastes the same so yay!!! I got this Matcha back when I was not into all teas yet but was in to the Japanese tea ceremony and was drinking this as a breakfast drink.
Now I am making Matcha tea lattes with it. I use a 1/2 tsp of the powder and then pour a little of my homemade almond milk into it,,, using my chasen whisk to create a paste. Then I add the rest of my almond milk and a little agave or other sweetener to it and blend until frothy. Super yum!
I am gonna throw it into my Nutribullet with some ice next time to make it super cold and frothy!!!!!!
I have actually never tried any other Matcha but this one so I have nothing to compare it to. I feel it tastes very good with no bitterness so I feel I started with one of the best. I am gonna try other brands soon as well!!
Flavors: Grass, Honeydew
Trying to power through this matcha before I start the Kaimatcha for comparison. Having this made the “traditional” way: two chasaku scoops sifted into a chawan. Added some 175F water to form a paste. Added another 6oz of water and whisked with the chasen.
Not bitter, but has this tongue-coating quality that emphasizes the seaweed-vegetal aspects. Bit of astringency at the end of the sip. As I get to the bottom of the bowl and it’s cooled down that’s when it gets thicker/creamier and a hint of sweetness.
I still prefer the taste of it as a latte, but I enjoy the preparation that goes into the traditional style.
Had this as a latte this morning and I like it a bit more that way than straight. Two chasaku scoops to 8oz skim milk. The milk compliments the sweetness in the matcha, and makes for a slightly creamy cup. Still getting the vegetal matcha-y taste without the slight bitterness.
As a latte I’ll bump the rating up a little bit.
Made this in a matcha bowl today. Added a tablespoon of creamer which gave a creamier mouth feel but didn’t overpower the matcha taste. I may have over-whisked this as there’s a more distinct bitter taste today.
Two heaping chasaku scoops, little bit of 175 degree water to make a paste, then 6oz more added.
