There is a lot going on in this blend and it took a few cups for me to decide how I felt about it because the dominant flavors shift from cup-to-cup. On my first cup I was overwhelmed by how tart it was, yet the next cup I fixed was somewhat spicy, and the cup after that was overly sweet. My tea never tasted the same way twice, which depending on how you look at it, could be either good or bad. If you want variety, then this is a great blend for that, because you’ll never scoop up the same mixture of fruit twice. To get around this I made three cups of tea, then mixed them together in a large pitcher so I had a good blend of tart, spicy, and sweet. The resulting cup of tea was juicy with a hint of spice. It’s not the first thing that necessarily comes to mind when I think of the winter solstice (the longest night of the year,) but it was a pleasant enough cup of tea.

While I was organizing my teas last week I stumbled across some samples that I had ordered during Fusion Teas Black Friday sale last year. My goal for the week is to finish any teas I still have remaining from last years orders (there aren’t very many) that way I can open up my new teas as they arrive. I didn’t place nearly as many orders as in previous years, so I think I’m finally out of the “I need to have all the tea” phase.

Maybe.

I ate a ton of food while we were back home last week and now that we’re home I’m regretting being such a glutton. I’ve had a stomach ache the last few days so I hoped the ginger in this blend would calm my poor overfull belly down. The ginger was the strongest flavor in this tea and I liked that it wasn’t over powering. It didn’t have that strong bite you normally get with ginger, but it made itself known above all the other ingredients. You could taste hints of blueberry and lemongrass, but the other flavors seemed to blend together. I felt like this needed to be a little bit sweeter so I dropped in a few pieces of german rock sugar and my sample was gone in no time. A really nice blend, not something I would turn to often, but definitely something I would order again.

Not sure how old this sample is, but the coconut is doing that old coconut thing and tasting a little soapy. Beyond that I get a nice lemongrass flavor. A little bit of spice, but not much is getting past the lemongrass. This tea is okay, but it isn’t impressive either.

Ashmanra’s sipdown challenge – January 2023 Tea #2- chocolate tea

additional notes:  Another chocolate tea today because neither with caffeine is a sipdown.   I forget how much I like this one.  Almost gone now…  and it’s sad I don’t see it on Fusion’s site for sale anymore.

First steeping note for this tea? Shame shame! A few odd ingredients here, I’m not sure would work, which is probably why I didn’t try the sample I bought seven months ago. Yikes. I wasn’t sure chocolate and apple would work together. I also wasn’t sure what type of green tea was in this one. I really wish companies would list specifically which green tea as there is a big difference between a sencha or a hojicha in a chocolate blend. I didn’t see any bright green leaves, most everything was brown, so I’m guessing the green tea is actually a roasted one BUT the picture actually shows green tea leaves. hmm. There is no apple I can detect: just sweet creamy milk chocolate with a medium bodied base. Very similar to another Fusion chocolate tea, but I can’t tell which one right now. Just pure milk chocolate here! The second steep was just as chocolatey.

March Mad(Hatter) Tea Tournament!
Round #1 – Match #10    Fusion – Caribbean Nectar VS. Teavivre – Moonlight Dragon Ball White

I’m trying to ignore the oldness of the coconut in this lovely blend – so many odd fruits here, but it really doesn’t matter.  The Moonlight is unique even by white tea standards.  It’s such a sweet, syrupy, autumnal, almost maple flavor and the steeps keep going and going.  The Moonlight wins by generosity of leaves alone.  I would definitely stock up on Caribbean Nectar again!  And Fusion still has it but with a name change: Caribbean Colada Rooibos.   But the winner is Moonlight Dragonball White.

Oh my gosh! I think this is very high up there on my favorite herbals! Just from the scent alone. I just wish the base wasn’t rooibos… can you imagine honeybush with these giant pieces of papaya, banana, orange, coconut, mango? The honeybush would have fit so much better but the rooibos in the Fusion blends are always the most tolerable of all rooibos anyway. This should be called the giant fruit blend. I think there is banana flavoring with the bananas, because I don’t see the bananas alone leaving this flavor, but maybe it’s the coconut adding sweetness and creaminess. Even if there is some artificial banana, this blend is amazing. Even though there was an entire quarter of an orange slice in the blend, I don’t taste much orange… maybe just some tanginess. This was PERFECT on a hot day. I’d definitely order this one next time I order from Fusion (and not just this sample size), but I think the honeybush idea is so much better!

Just wondering how you measured this for brewing? Measuring by volume as recommended is kind of ridiculous since the pieces are so large!

Hey! I just eyeballed it, I guess. There isn’t really a way to oversteep it without things like hibiscus or black/green tea in the blend!
