My first unflavored matcha ever arrived today! I bought this because of the rave reviews I have seen here, and it did not let me down.

The tin has a screw on lid, and when it arrives it also has a metal pull tab lid inside. They care about preserving the freshness, and respect their product! That is a good start.

I opened it and sniffed the matcha powder. Buttery, fresh sweet vegetables! I heated some water and got out my whisk. Now I can’t wait to get a real bamboo one. I still got a good froth with my metal kitchen whisk, but what amazed me was the color of this tea. It was the brightest emerald green I have ever seen.

My daughter and I both drank it, and this was so smooth, creamy, and buttery. You feel so healthy drinking it because it is plain how high quality it is, and how pure. My daughter sighed and told me that she is going to go broke with this new found matcha habit. I have a feeling she will be placing her own order before long. This was a fantastic introduction to unflavored matcha! There was nothing that could be considered bitter or astringent about this.

Kittenna

Sigh. I soooo can’t afford this matcha. Finally I’ve hit a tea that’s simply too expensive for me to purchase! I’ll have to live vicariously through all you reviewers! :D

Simply brilliant flavors in this tea. Complex and whole, yet easy on the pallet.

I was ready to write off matcha tea all together after trying a few other brands, but then I learned the difference between the grades. KaiMatcha is ceremonial grade, and it makes a huge difference. I had been pinching pennies and thinking all matcha was created equal but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

I won’t pretend to be an expert, but basically it comes down to how the plant is grown and when it’s harvested. Ceremonial grade matcha only uses leaves from the most prime harvest, whereas cooking grade matcha uses leaves from the second and third harvest, and everything that wasn’t good enough to make it into the ceremonial grade.

That’s why a lot of people complain about bitterness when drinking matcha tea, it’s because they’ve only tried “the cheap stuff” and have yet to experience ceremonial grade matcha – the way it’s meant to be enjoyed.

I highly recommend giving KaiMatcha a try, even if you haven’t been too keen on matcha teas in the past. We will be featuring a more in-depth review at http://TeaPerspective.com soon and are looking forward to delving deeper into the world of matcha and everything it has to offer!

The dreaded head cold got me!!! Noooooooo.
This is especially troublesome because I have a phone interview this afternoon. For a job I really do need but it’s in the wrong city. I enjoy working in the city (seriously, I’ve thought long and hard about this, it really is a thing for me, for many reasons).
So I’ve generally turned down opportunities to work in the suburbs. Except now I need the cash to tide me over and this job is related to my field. Thankfully it’s only a three month contract.
Ugh. What to do!?

Anyhow, as usual I don’t make this delicious tea nearly often enough, and again, as usual I’ve drained my mug faster than a kid with a milkshake. So many levels of delicious.
I’m impressed that I can actually taste it through my stuffed up nose.

I rarely indulge in this beaut, owing to how tasty it is… so much that I’m afraid if I catered to my whims, it’d be gone in a week.
In fact, this is the only tea I’ve ever come across that manages to seduce me with the occasional second mug. Then, eventually, I erase the bliss from my palate memory, and when I see the tin next, somehow I end up thinking that I don’t really want it at the moment. Seriously? what madman convinced me of this?!
Thus, I put it away in the corner someplace, only to find it again months later and repeat the process all over again.
Of course I am now beginning to notice it losing a bit of oomph, owing to age I presume… so I feel that I can now reasonably chain drink it and avoid any overwhelming guilt!! That said, I’m on a tight budget at the moment and I’ll be so incredibly sad when that looming sipdown rolls around. Eeeps!!
Also, I’d like to add that this especially hit the spot today. I am positive that my entire cup vanished in record time.

On a final note, I’ve been looking forward to this review because I’m a nerd and wanted to make my 1234th post about something special. I can’t think of a more appropriate tea to achieve that!

__Morgana__

Awesome on the 1234!

Indigobloom

Thanks! I feel like it’s a big one, since my next milestone is 2000. Well, maybe 1500.
Anyhow. The 1234 makes me chuckle :P

Fjellrev

Nicely done! My 666th is coming up soon so I ought to prepare for that haha.

Indigobloom

Hehe Thanks Fjellrev! Ahhh 666!! Maybe a chili chai would work for that lol

I love spinach!! yes I do. It’s so tasty.
And since this matcha reminds me so very very much of buttered spinach, I love this tea! :)
Yep, this one will definitely disappear quickly. Oh yes it will.

I have a rant to type out but family deserves privacy even if they are silly. Gah!

Whoaaaaaaa. Is this matcha? or some other godly substance?
Seriously, it’s GOOD. Like buttered spinach! Mmmmmm.
And the depth! Oh yeah, this has some serious heft. Just a little goes a long way. In fact, I think I may have added a hair too much here.
Except… I was hoping it’d be more creamy, like creamed spinach. Hey I am not complaining. Different than what I expected is all.
I need to try it again when I know how the story goes and can review my cuppa without any bias. Oh man am I ever looking forward to that :)

Kittenna

I was so interested in this, but then I realized that I really don’t drink matcha in any form other than latte (and holy crap is it expensive!). So I think its superiority would be lost on me. One day, perhaps, when I feel like bothering to properly brew up a hot non-latte cup of matcha, I will seek some of this out. Until then, Red Leaf flavoured matcha it is!

Donna A

Kittenna, I am an the same camp with you. One day I’ll probably try this one out of sheer curiosity, but it’s not in the budget right now.

Indigobloom

I know what you mean, I’m sortof half and half. There are times when all I want is a plain matcha. But this one? it’s almost like it’s a RL matcha flavoured with spinach!

matcha, Matcha, MATCHA!

This is the good stuff. Just add water.
I bought it as a present for myself for my 41st birthday.
Not bitter tasting at all compared to other matchas I have tried.
A little dash goes a long way.
I bought it based on the reviews on steepster.

matcha, Matcha, MATCHA!

12/6 I still drink this about 3x a week as my second cup of tea in the morning. I keep my tin at work. The more I drink it the more it tastes like “butter” to me- sort of drinking melted butter when eating a great lobster dinner. It tastes like grass flavored butter!
It’s an amazing product. I drink it to counter-act any junk, sweet or greasy food that I eat.
So if I eat some potato chips, I wash it down with some hot matcha.

As for claims of any weight loss by drinking matcha, well, I walk 4 miles a day, kick box, zumba, do cardio and my weight remains the same at 174lbs consuming this product, but your results may be different.

7/11/2013 Update – I bought two more tins. I feel this is one of the best ceremonial Matchas to order on the internet. I make a cup when I first get into the office and makes me have energy and focused. If you have ADD / ADHD – I’d try this as an alternative to adderall. Makes me feel focused, relaxed, and “in” the present.

Today I mixed some Matcha with some loose Runa Guayusa tea and was heaven!

I wish I had liked this more, given the reviews it had as I ordered it. Now, do not get me wrong it is a very tasty matcha indeed, but it is also not the best for my taste in this price range. I made it on two separate occasions to ensure my opinions.

This matcha is very smooth, buttery and not chalky at all in texture, and does not require re mixing. People who like their matcha more on the buttery side and less vegetal, will love this, it’s like Pure but if my taste buds are recalling correctly, this matcha has more depth in taste complexity than pure but less strength. It has a nice astringency to it, a little too astringent for matcha for me, but not at all bitter. I also don’t think it froths up well in comparison. My biggest complaint came in the after taste department, it’s astringent for matcha, and lacking of that wonderful lingering slight cocoa taste you can get with premium matchas.

I happened to buy an additional tin of this to send to my mother who has expressing interest in matcha tea! It will be interesting to see what she will think of it as it will be her first matcha ever.

Current winner for me is still Aiya, and my next purchase to try will be ocha! Love me some matcha :)

yssah

ooooh, interested to know how they compare!

When KaiMatcha first appeared on Steepster with a win-free-matcha promotion, I was quite harsh on them. Not because I am out to be a mean person, but because I prefer to give criticism to any tea companies that may be genuinely trying rather than simply let them do something I do not like – I want as many tea companies to be successful as possible. I think that helps the tea-drinking community.

I did not like their website. I still don’t. In fact, I hate their website. I do not object to a focus on health benefits so much – I think tea should sell itself on taste alone, but I also really believe in the health value of tea, and I know some people have been put off by bad experiences with tea – but I do not get a welcoming feel from the site. When I look at it, I feel like I ought to be ordering a StairMaster and getting some free knock-off Tupperware because I ordered NOW!

Am I wrong about that? Am I wrong to think the general public will feel the same way? Perhaps. Maybe they will look at it differently. I don’t know. I did not offer criticism to KaiMatcha on the basis of, “you suck,” but on the basis of, “I am suspicious that you might suck; this looks sketchy to me.”

But I did see KaiMatcha say in the tea vendor’s thread that they felt they have a very quality product and were disappointed no one was interested in trying it yet. Their confidence in their product was interesting. I ultimately felt that I would wait to see what Steepster said about this company and its product. I kept the review page for KaiMatcha Premium open in a saved tab, and refreshed it every day to be there for the first reviews.

When they rolled in and were highly positive, I immediately ordered a can to see for myself. (The one good thing about their website: they take Paypal, hah.)

It arrived today. I shouldn’t drink any THIS late, but I am really upset about some drama at work I will have to deal with, and I having been wanting to know for myself what it is like. So I decided to whisk up a quarter-teaspoon to try it straight and then just dump half of it.

The can is nice. It is sealed much like the Teavana matcha I’m already used to, with a pop top and a screw cap. When I opened it, wow! What a fantastic, fresh, sweet smell. I mean, really sweet.

It didn’t foam up that great, but I’m 100% sure that this is because I’m not whisking it in wide enough bowls. I really want a good stoneware matcha bowl! With a spout, preferably. I can’t seem to get a darn thing to foam at home, even when I get beautiful foam at work (so it’s not my technique). So “low foam covering 70% of the surface” is actually doing better than all the other matcha I’ve tried so far.

I had this straight, no sweetener at all, and…

It’s totally drinkable. Now I finally understand what people mean when they say that good matcha should not be bitter. This must be good matcha, because it’s not bitter in the slightest and it’s very smooth. A bit sweet, a bit creamy. It tastes like green veggies and not like bitter grass drenched in dog urine. It’s not my thing in the sense that I will never be a big green drinker; but I can tell that it is a very good green even though it does not personally excite me. The very fact that I can drink it straight immediately pushes it above a 90. That it is this good at its price point puts it at least on par with Jade Dragon (one of my few actual green tea loves). This is only a few sips worth, so I will give it some more experimental time and report back if I am adjusting the rating or have more to say about it.

…Oh wait. It’s gone stone cold now (haha, so much typing) and I managed to slurp it (which you can’t do when it’s hot) and discovered an intense creamy sweetness at the back. I’m tired, so I just realized that I was not trying to really aerate my sips for the best taste. Of course, I never remember to do that 100% of the time; but if I drank it more thoughtfully, this would be a very rich and drinkable green. Also, this tells me that this matcha would also be good iced.

I think that’s enough for 100.

Sil

You may have convinced me to try this someday

ashmanra

Yes, I think my hubby and daughter and I are going to destroy my tin in no time flat. I found this to be a very pleasant tea, smooth and buttery. I don’t know if I am a good “whisker” but I got a decent amount of froth using my plain metal kitchen whisk. I do think it will be even easier once I get a real bamboo whisk. I am saving up for some things on the Zen Tea Life website – I love the black bamboo whisk! I don’t know if I can restrain myself much longer….

OwenjMayer

I agree 100% with you about being put off by the website. It makes matcha out to be a huge health fad and feels very commercial. However, since I have faith in my fellow Steepsters I’ll give it a try as I’m finding I like matcha.

I’m pretty sure my post office is trying to drive me insane. I was lucky enough to win a whole tin of this in KaiMatcha’s contest, and I noticed about a week later everyone was posting tasting notes, but mine hadn’t arrived. I assumed it would come soon… but nothing, for one whole week! I checked the tracking info on October 10th and lo and behold it got to my local post office on the 1st. Which means it was just sitting there for 9 days! What the heck! I went there to pick it up and they told me it wasn’t there and they couldn’t fully check without the tracking info (which I didn’t have on hand). Furious, I filed a complaint and the next day a slip to pick it up arrived in my box (though no delivery attempt…). Seriously, I am so fed up with them! They mark boxes by what day they arrive and you could clearly see it originally said 1st but they crossed it out to say it got there the 10th. Aargh.

Anyway, of course right after I got it NYCC started up and I was too busy to do a tasting note, and then I got consars and my tastebuds went all wonky. Judging from the other reviews I knew this was going to be good, so I didn’t want to waste it on my flu-y tasting abilities. But the time had finally come to dive right in! Well, I planned on savoring it and taking time to taste it, but mysteriously my first mug vanished rather quickly…

As others have said, this is what matcha is all about. It’s true ceremonial grade, better than any other pure matcha I’ve had! I was actually quite surprised when I took my first sip. It’s not that grassy at all, with a full, buttery almost umami-like mouthfeel. It’s mellow and vegetal, with just a hint of delicious sweetness.

The foam is amazing too! So frothy and delicious, and it sifts like a dream. No clumps, no lumps, just smooth amazing matcha-ness. I’ve had this 3 times since I first opened it (straight, iced latte, hot latte) and it’s just amazing no matter what you do to it. Matcha at its purest!

ashmanra

Sorry you had such a hassle! I am glad to hear you won, though! I didn’t. sob But I did order a tin and it is supposed to cme tomorrow! It will be my first unflavored matcha ever and I am pretty excited!

Terri HarpLady

I’m trying to finish of the Matcha I have to justify using the KaiMatcha coupon to order from them. It sounds wonderful! I love me some good Matcha!

Alphakitty

It is SO worth buying, I know I’ll be back for more once I’ve finished off my tin (which at the rate I am plowing through it won’t take long haha)

A review of KaiMatcha Premium by KaiMatcha

Company: KaiMatcha
Tea Name: KaiMatcha Premium
Tea Type/Varietal: Green tea powder
Region: Japan
Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf: cup/ 1 teaspoon
Plucking Season:
Liquor Color: bright green

Water temperature: 180 Fahrenheit
Time: 45 seconds

I am scraping together the last bits of matcha powder teas that I have for one full cup of tea. Well not filled but partially. I shake all that remained of the green tea powder from Hamassaen and scraped remainder of the Kaimatcha from the its tin and putting it all in my mug, I pour in some of the boiled water into the cup and begin to whisk the tea briskly until all of the powder has dissolved.

The tea’s color is a bright green color; that of wet grass smell and when I sip this concoction it is very astringent and yet fresh in the taste when swallowed. It would seem combining the two powders makes it bitterer with a stinging effect on the tongue when drinking the tea.

I have been enjoying the Kaimatcha and taking in all of its benefit for strength and courage with having clarity of mind and body. I truly believe this as I drink a cup of this tea daily or occasionally as I was running out of it. Now that there is none left I find I need my fix and must make a purchase somehow. Some EBay Matcha teas or Aya’s Matcha tea powder possibly as the pricing is much less than this Kaimatcha Premium and the results might not be the same either.

This is something to note and keep in mind when trying other matchas. Again, thank Kaimatcha for the experience; the Kaimatcha Premium surpassed all of my needs: to think clearly and stay focused as things around me are at their least cohesive best. I mean chaos and negation is what I seem to attract of late and the matchas have helped getting me through the day and I need more of the stuff. Thanks!

Tea Name: Kaimatcha Premium
Tea Type/Varietal: Green Tea Powder
Region: Japan
Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf: cup/ ½ teaspoon
Plucking Season:
Liquor Color: bright green
Leaf Characteristics: This tea powder is a bright green and the aroma is most pleasant “umami” with lots of grassy tones.

Steepings

1st Steeping:
Water temperature: 190 Fahrenheit
Time: 45 seconds

Tea is steeped for 45 seconds stirring briskly at first then slowly. The tea did not foam, tea’s color is a bright green. I have been drinking this tea for nourishment substituting for breakfast I suppose were I to have any. I like the way I feel when drinking this tea because I believe it is strengthening me as I take sip after sip; since I tend to feel that I have much to endure with no recognition or if there is it is insults hurled.

I mean that I feel I do lots for nothing, it does not add up and I am wasting my time; I sorry if that is what I doing on Steepster, so many others might want to have a space here; the real writers and tea officialdoms /connoisseurs.

Matcha tea is wonderful, healthy and filled with antioxidants. I am happy to have discovered this tea. I would not have were I not researching teas. I have used green based powdered drinks like that of Dr. Hawagatha made of barley grass, if memory serves me correctly.

Thank you, Kaimatcha for this lovely premium tea.

A review of Kaimatcha Premium by Kaimatcha mixed with one sachet of Korean Ginseng Tea

Today I wanted to try my Kaimatcha Premium with some of the Ginseng Tea that I obtained. I take one of the packets of the Ginseng tea and put this in my tea mug and I take 1 small teaspoon of the Kaimatcha and put this in the cup as well and pour the boiled water into the cup. I immediately begin stirring it; forward than back and across and I watched how the blends are mixing in that the tea is not a bright green color and does not froth either. It is flat to me and smells sweetly with lesser astringent.

Tea’s aroma is a slight mixture of sweet ginseng (more like smelling honey) mingling with the grassiness of the tea powder; it is a nice effect and when tasted it is slightly sweeter than before adding the ginseng. The Kaimatcha retains its grassiness and tartness with that dewy wet grass taste and smell.

I remember a discussed review for a matcha tea with caramel and thinking that you could not add sweetness to grass like taste but I see with what I have tried here that it can be accomplished quite nicely if one knows their doing. I mean I am not expert, nor did I intend to change this matcha.

A review of Kaimatcha Premium by Kaimatcha

I fixed for myself another cup of this Kaimatcha Premium first thing today. I take ½ of a teaspoon of the tea powder and put this in my cup and pour in the boiling water, string slowly at first than rapid until tea powder has dissolved. No foaming at all and tea is darkly green and flat to me once again. I am disappointed, I sip and sip it slowly to cherish the freshly, clean taste of the tea. As I sip and sip I remind myself that this tea is good for me and I need goodness in my life; as we all do.

I like tea best when color a bright green since it is smoother and creamier when the tea powder does foam; as the tea’s tannins reacts better with one’s palette and saliva as they interact.

I mean to say, if you follow the process correctly than one garners a better cup of tea.

This morning I woke up wanting a small cup of Matcha tea. At first I thought to fix it cold. So letting the tap water run and rinsing my cup with warm water, I took a small teaspoon of the powder and place this in my cup and adding the tap water to it. I stir and stir, noticing that the matcha did not foam, color is very dark green. I decided to put in the microwave for a quick 45 seconds. I stood there watching it turn the in the oven and turn and at some point I notice that it had filled and overflowed in the oven. So I pressed stopped and open the door to clean out the mess I had made.

I let the cup cool and stirred the remainder of the matcha and drink it slowly as it was quite hot. It did not taste differently, it was smooth in taste with that milky dew scent as I take sip after sip of the tea and some of this dew scent came from my hands from wiping the microwave. It is nice to realize, tea explode in microwave but the taste remain intact, well at least to this tea reviewer who seems most inept in all things.

Water temperature: 165 Fahrenheit

I am fixing for myself a cup of this KaiMatcha. I try not to have it every day so that it lasts longer. I know it is something I will purchase again and again, when I can afford it. I let the tap water run a bit longer while I take 1 spoonful of the tea powder and add this to my cup. I fill the kettle with water and let it boil, just short of coming to steam. I pour some of the water into my cup and stir gently. I stir with my small wooden spoon forward and back and across and I am pleased to see some foam forming as I do this. I do this until powder is mixed completely with the water and now I have lovely foam of green and smell both clean and brightly smooth. I take sip after sip since I am having this tea for strength, courage, for gratitude that the folks at KaiMatcha allowed me to have this tin of powder. They took a chance on me and sent it along for me to sample and I am gratefully enjoying each and every precious drop of this most wonderful of teas.

I think it is a great way to start one’s day if looking for clarity of mind and thought; as this tea can accomplish this and lots more.

Tea did not foam at all, it is flat with a bright green color and when I take a sip it is astringent; a stinging effect on the palette, with the second and third sips I taste something more like milk with a rich/ creamy texture. This taste reminds me of those small cabbages slightly buttered with a dash of salt…bringing about the creamy texture of the cabbage.

I like this KaiMatcha and consider myself bless to be able to experience more mathca teas since they are at times quite costly. If one can find a can of pressed milk powdered like in the olden days when milk was not always drinkable or affordable to all; this is what this tea’s aroma is like with that milky dewiness that I am referring to.

This is indeed an enjoyable matcha. Thank you, KaiMatcha, for allowing me to know such a product.

A review of KaiMatcha Premium by KaiMatcha

As much as I adore matcha teas, (tea powder), I have resisted to having a small cups of this tea daily. I think it has been a few days since having a cup. Anyhow, this afternoon after my long walk, upon returning I decided to fix myself a small cup of this matcha.

I took a small cup and pour fresh running water into the cup and let it boil for 1 minute; I take another small cup and add one small teaspoon of the matcha in the cup and add the water and gently stirring as I add the water. I continue to stir until it froth slightly and the color is this lovely green color; so true to the color of wet grass; that dark hew that one see when walking after a day of rain and the grass is still wet. I sip and sip the matcha slowly, taking in the tea’s flavor which is grassy; and tea’s aroma is that freshly cut grass smell.

I now understand the difference between the Green Tea Powder by Hamsaean that I have and this Matcha. The tea powder is more fishy in smell and taste; having more of that “umami” taste and makes me think of marine algae or the ocean smell as the waves come crashing ashore…leaving behind starfish, rock, seaweeds, etc.

As opposed to this KaiMatcha, which smells very freshly of green grass just mowed or that wet grassy smell after a day of rain.

Characteristically similar is the astringency to be found with the matchas. Aromatic wise they differ in that one conjures a fresh, grassy smell as the other conjures a fishy odor of seaweeds and the ocean.

I woke up this morning to find myself wanting some of this Premium KaiMatcha. So I fixed a cup; ½ teaspoon of the KaiMatcha into my tea mug and I pour some of the already boiled water into the cup. I whisk it briefly and was happy to view some frothing to hide the dark green coloring of this tea.

I cannot get over how green this matcha is. I guess the color depicts its strength since it is to be premium which makes me think that it is superior somehow.
I have had this matcha several times now, adding nothing to enhance the flavor and it has not hurt me to drink it plain. It is a lovely cup of vision and by this I mean enlightenment! Thank you KaiMatcha, for sending this product my way.

When I say thank you, I mean gratefulness in that I can wake up and see all these wonderful teas sent to me or purchased by (self) or spouse and to have to make a selection from one of many fine teas. I feel privileged and good.

A review of KaiMatcha Premium by KaiMatcha

Date: 10/19/ 2012
Company: KaiMatcha
Tea Name: KaiMatcha Premium
Tea Type/Varietal: Green Matcha Tea
Region: Japan
Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf: cup/ ½ teaspoon
Plucking Season:
Liquor Color: dark green / color of wet grass
Leaf Characteristics:

Steepings

1st Steeping:
Water temperature: 160 Fahrenheit
Time: 30 seconds

Note: I am trying this premium matcha once again. I take ½ a teaspoon of the powder and put this in my tea mug and I add the boil water into the cup and I stir it back and forth in the cup slowly and it does foam slightly. The taste of this matcha is very much like seaweeds or broccoli; a bit of stretch. It is astringent in taste at first but one pass that it is good. I guess for premium it is more potent, and thus more astringency.

The other tea powder matcha that I have has a fishy aroma since it is more for cooking; to use as paste/base for cooking with fish perhaps.

I did come across this blog that offered a lovely comparison as to why matcha foams differently… Tales of Japanese Tea—-Impact of the foam…
Kohei’s journal about learning Sado (The Way of Tea)

A very good Matcha tea comparison is to be found here with Tales of Japanese Tea:

Do you know why the amount of the foam is different on each of the bowl of matcha in this photo? The way of whisking tea varies depending on school traditions. Some schools tell to whisk fast and well to attain a lot of foam, but some schools do not. The speed of whisking makes the difference of the amount of foam. Here in our school, Omotesenke, we are taught to whisk lightly to attain just moderate amount of foam…more view post http://everyonestea.blogspot.com/

Expert opinion or not matcha tasting and enjoyment of matcha could be said like that of beer; in that it is an acquired taste.

A review of KaiMatcha Premium by KaiMatcha

Date: 10/14/2012
Company: KaiMatcha
Tea Name: KaiMatcha Premium
Tea Type/Varietal: Green tea powder
Region: Japan
Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf: cup/ ½ tsp tea powder
Plucking Season:
Liquor Color: bright green
Leaf Characteristics: Tea powder is a brightly green color with a very good “umami”, I imagine once tasted; since color and tea’s aroma goes to making a wonderful cup of tea.

Steepings

1st Steeping:
Water temperature: 170 Fahrenheit
Time: 30 seconds

Note: I am finally trying this KaiMatcha today. I resisted for so long since this product is so expensive and has a high quality of value. It was sent to me to review from the company and I cannot thank them enough for their trust in me.

I add 1 cup of hot water (170-180 degrees) to ½ tsp of KaiMatcha Premium. Whisk quickly for 30 seconds until frothy; I am sorry to say I did not get this frothiness in my cup. Instead, what I have is a very dark green tea, with that wet grassy smell. And when I take a sip of the matcha it is astringent, not bitter since it also smells very sweet. This is the contrast I am confused about. There is a sweet smelling and very pleasant smell but when I taste it is not sweet at all. It tastes like veggies/and greens, cut greens that becomes sweeter after having a few and reaching the buttery aspect of the greens. That smooth, creamy texture that can only be found in natural green veggies with nothing added.

In all, this KaiMatcha Premium has a lovely bright green color and smells strongly of grass. Freshly cut grass and it is a lovely aroma. Upon tasting this tea, one is met with the astringency to be found in this cup, as well as a clean finishing when swallowed. Taste is clean, and lively with a buttery finish.
I am looking forward to trying the many recipes I have read about to do with using/serving matcha. Thank you again KaiMatcha for allowing me to have this wonderful experience.

Since you thought that the Matcha was too bitter. You either used water that was too hot, too much matcha, or the matcha was not whisked efficiently. Matcha needs to be whisked until a thick froth with many tiny bubbles has been achieved. If there are breaks in the froth that reveals the liquid underneath, or big bubbles visible on the surface, the flavor profile of the matcha will be poor compared with one that has been whisked correctly.
