TTB Tea #7:
1 bag (2.11g) in 6oz boiling water- picked a 3 min steeping time at random because none was listed.
Whoa… ok, I should have checked here 1st. This is obviously isn’t just ginger root as I thought. The liquor is a medium reddish brown- not colorless like pure ginger root. The aroma is mostly ginger, but also other spices. WHen I taste it, I get lemon notes and unidentifiable spices along w/ the ginger. Not bad, But I prefer pure ginger.
Preparation
Say what you want, but this is still what I often think about when I think of “standard” black tea. Sure, there isn’t anything that special about it, but I wouldn’t say it’s bad. There is a certain advantage to being able to enjoy a cup of cheap lipton, because I can buy a box of 100 bags for a few bucks and at least know I can have tea whenever I want, which helps keep me away from other caffeine sources. A perfect “focus on your work” tea companion that keeps you warm and caffeinated, but doesn’t take up your attention.
Preparation
i tried it cuz it was free in the caff. AWFUL. i didnt even finish it, a few brual sips and through it right in the sink, which it stained because its so artifcialy red. so sweet and artifical, i didnt add anything but water and it was terrible.
Preparation
This is what I have when I go visit my family and forget to bring my own tea. It’s probably the best unflavored black tea available in their Kroger, but not so great compared to the excellent looseleafs out there. It’s not quite strong enough, and too tannic and astringent; for this reason, I recommend using an extra bag but a short (3 min max) steep time.
When I was a kid, the Boy-Scout-styled church group I was in used some little leather straps to hang award beads on, and at some point I wound up chewing on one. That’s sort of what’s going on with Black Pearl.
It’s real black tea and not leaf dust, so that’s good. However, where its flavor deviates from the norm it’s not really for the better, and it doesn’t have the robustness to cover it up. Black Pearl is not proper bad, just mediocre.
Preparation
Actually needed this for a morning medicinal — woke up jittery and tense and need something to stanch the flow of adrenaline. This was handy and helped; if nothing else, having a hot cup of anything steamy and smell-goody in my hand helps me relax. I’d give it the flavor equivalent of Celestial Seasonings’ Tension tamer.
Thank you for the likes, even when my product descriptions are tanking. You’re such an affirming bunch … I needed that this morning!
Awww, AmazonV, that’s a lovely way to think of ‘em ’hearts hugs’!!! gmathis – hope your day went better after the tea & steepster (I’m seeing your tea note 10 hours later)!
This is the black tea I grew up with, and I liked it until I tried Yorkshire. It’s still ok, but I have to be in a weird mood to drink it and it’s usually as a last resort. It tastes kind of…sour lately, and it’s pretty weak.
I have a box of it, and it’ll get used, slowly.
Preparation
This is by far my favorite morning tea to warm up in the freezing cold office. The fruity, very slightly spicy flavor is wonderful. When it’s time to switch to iced tea, it makes a fabulous iced tea as well. This is sold out in every store down in Raleigh, NC, where I live!! I have to order it from amazon. It doesn’t get really strong very fast, you have to steep it for a while. Just keep tasting it till you get what’s right for you!
Had some this morning. I received it as a gift, and since I’m not terribly crazy about it, I’m really only drinking it to free up some space in the cupboard. It’s alright, but it really doesn’t compare to loose leaf tea. Like others have said, it tastes more like a fruity herbal infusion than black tea with fruit. I wouldn’t discount this line entirely, though; Lipton’s Island Mango and Peach white tea is much better quality.
Preparation
I wanted some tea before bed, but didn’t feel like using my Teavana Perfect Tea Maker (which is a pain to clean) or even a filter bag, so I pulled this out. As always, the quality was excellent for a bagged tea and the taste was delicately sweet.
Preparation
Had a cup of this in the afternoon after the Easter Sunday service. It tasted great, but didn’t help me with the dry mouth I’ve experiencing since I started a new medication. If anything, my mouth was even more uncomfortable afterwards. At least the honey soothed my throat.

Awww. Sounds like a bummer. Sorry it was disappointing.
It was just strange that I used to think the flavor was strong and last night I left the bag in the cup for at least 20 minutes while sipping and no flavor could be found. I guess the rest of my Lipton Herbal box will be kept for sick day tea.
Actually, it sort of makes sense that I was a coffee fan if the only tea I had experience with was this poor example. I guess that is what having high quality, great tasting teas will do to the old sad ones.
