This RTD wins the (dis)honor of being the worst drink of the trip.

We saw a lot of different ube flavoured things during out trip and they were all quite interesting and good, so when we came to this sparkling ube matcha water we were intrigued! We took bets on what colour it would be. Would it be green like the matcha or purple like ube!? Something browner and more in the middle, perhaps? Literally no one was prepared for us to pour out the drink into sample cups and for it to be clear.

Upon review there isn’t actually any ube in the drink – only flavouring that is, I guess, supposed to replicate ube? So, that at least explains the lack of purple. However, matcha is the second ingredient after water so for there to not even be a hint of green to the liquor was a little concerning.

The taste was bad. At first it sort of just tasted like sparkling water. Plain and neutral. That’s disappointing, sure, but at least not unpleasant. The finish gets you with this one, though! After a pretty neutral sip we were all left with this super raw starchy taste in our mouths that I can only describe as being what I imagine eating a raw potato straight from the garden – without washing it – would taste like.

Big, big pass.
