One of the better chai tea bags out there. I like milky chai’s, and it doesn’t lessen the taste of the spices at all.

A very nice tea – my preference is to add a lot of steamed milk

It’s earl grey. It tastes like a good cup of earl grey. No complaints there, but you could probably find the same thing a bit cheaper than Mighty Leaf offers.

It’s certainly pretty – but in addition to looking like a small bag of potpourri, it pretty much tastes the same. Too flowery for my tastes.

This is lovely. I might have to make myself a cup and take note of how long I steep it for and all that. I’ve never been into the technical side of tea drinking… I just enjoy tea!

This has been one of my favorite tea’s I’ve tried. I love the fruity flavors. It tastes well balanced. This one needs to steep at a high temperature for at least 5 minutes.

drank Ginger Twist by Mighty Leaf Tea
477 tasting notes

Well, it’s officially too late to drink an actual tea, so I spent some time leafing through my tisanes and decided to try another of the ones Jillian sent me. I wasn’t really in the mood for ginger, but the tasting notes for this all seem to agree that the ginger’s quite weak.

The bag looks… ehr. Weird. Bread-like pieces and leaf shreds, and it smells dusty but herbal. Brewed this in my little teapot, but decided to test out the beautiful handmade mug (and matching tiny dish which I now designate as my teabag/teaball holder) that I got from a nice lady vender from the setup on-campus today. She sold her own-made clayware (and some pieces from friends with permission) as well as her knitwear (and again, a few pieces made by friends with permission). When I walked over there, she was seated and knitting another scarf. All organic wools.

Brewed light. A pale gold colour. It looks like just plain water in my mug, because it’s such a deep maroon colour.

…Ehr… Smells… I think there’s some ginger in there. Smells hot and sour and musty to me, though. Like… one of those ‘wellness herbal potions’. I’m afraid. There’s smells I recognize, but I don’t know from what. Sour smells, though.

It… pretty much tastes like it smells. A bready mustyness, with slight ginger… And lemon. Lemon without the tart, actually, which I assume must be the lemongrass (I’ve never really tasted lemongrass by itself, so I don’t have the experience to pinpoint it exactly).

It’s not BAD, at least. It’s actually quite calming to sip. Although the taste and smell are pretty much identical, it’s better as a taste than as a smell. I don’t like the whiffs I get before I take a sip. I’m not getting the tart and pucker mentioned. It tastes like it’s ALMOST sour—or at least trying to BE sour—but doesn’t quite make it. Also, I taste the mint as an aftertaste. Well, really more of a coolness on my tongue. But I definitely BURPED mint there.

Otherwise, I don’t know. It’s not… bad, but in personal opinion, it’s not really for me. Hurray for my first experience with Might Leaf, though! I’ll finish this pot, but after that, it was only a single teabag, so it’s gone from my cupboard. I don’t think I’ll attempt a second steep. I’m not sure yet. Get back to me when I finish this one.

I have a single bag of this tea that the nice man in Nando’s gave me (the conversation went thus: me: “Can I buy that tea by the box?” him: “no, sorry, we just do the cups.” me: “Can i buy just a bag of it now then? My friends are leaving, I want to try it but Mighty Leaf’s p&p charges are scandalous, and I’ll pay for the price of a full cup…?” ::hopeful grin:: him: ::backs slowly away from the nutter:: “here, on the house. Enjoy.” The moral of this story? Acting eccentric gets you free tea.)

The problem is I really like it, so it looks as though I’m going to be paying those p&p charges. It’s sweet and fruity with a strong but pleasant hit of vanilla, and it doesn’t have that dry-mouth sensation I keep getting with rooibos teas. Once it’s cooled a little the vanilla becomes a little less intense and the flower flavours more apparent, so quite a complex tea.

drank Aloe Serenity by Mighty Leaf Tea
865 tasting notes

My 1st Mighty Leaf loose tea! And what a unique tea at that… A friend from Prayer and Share was telling about her and her husband’s cruise to Aruba and their trip to an aloe plantation and that reminded me that I had this!

The only experience I’ve had w/ injesting aloe is aloe juice. And it’s grrrooossss- and the thick texture doesn’t help.

1/2TB of leaf per 6oz of water. Hot and clean.

Another pretty tea to watch! The aloe and rose make the green tea not just a typical green tea. Once steeped, the liquor is a golden color.

The aroma is that of the raw leaf- floral, sweet, vegetal, and something else… the aloe I’m sure.

Yay! The flavor is exactly what I expected based on the aroma of both the raw and steeped leaf. The light floral notes and vegetalness from the green tea blend well (thank God) w/ the aloe which is sweet… but not a fruity or honey like sweetness. The texture is smooth, but the mouth feel is a little different… thicker. Will definitely be buying this!

The liquor

I do love this tea – and I am not a big green fan (but i also adore aloe drink)

Cofftea

I totally got distracted talking to my someone special and trying to identify 2 mystery teas, but I’m back to drinking it. 2nd infusion, 4 min. The liquor is ever so slightly lighter, but the aroma is not. The flavor is brothy, sweet and brothy. Unfortunately the floral aspect is gone, but it’s a very good cuppa- just different.

Cofftea

3rd infusion while watching Biggest Loser, 5 min. Liquor is the same, aroma is a bit lighter though. Flavor is just the slightest lighter as well, still sweet and brothy.

This sounds really good!

Steep Information:
Amount: 1 Teabag, 3.5g
Additives: none
Water: 6 ounces filtered boiling water
Steep Time: a little over 5 minutes
Served: Hot

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: Sweet spice, lemongrass, fruity, minty
Steeped Tea Smell: Lemongrass
Flavor: Something trying to be sweet, a medley of flavors, never settling on one, not blending the flavors they are each unique
Body: Light
Aftertaste: Ginger-lemongrass burn on the tongue
Liquor: Cloudy yellow-brown

There were popping noise while steeping! It was surprising.

This was a sample pack I choose when I placed my last order online.

I believe it may have done better with a bit of honey, it wasn’t as gingery as I was expecting from the name and was a nice tea to keep me on my toes as it cycled through various pleasant flavors.

Post-Steep Additives: none

Resteep: very light, mainly lemongrass water

I’m currently traveling, and away from my tea cabinet at home. This is always a trying time. Hotels often provide tea bags, but rarely ones worth drinking.

But, at the keynote last night we pocketed a few Mighty Leaf tea bags which we were happily gulping down while listening to a paper on why it is important for anthropologists to take the topic of religion seriously in Japan.

Tea bag tea, no matter how premium, is still tea bag tea. I don’t care what anyone else says, it just isn’t as good as loose tea. Heck, even loose tea, once placed into a tea bag, doesn’t steep as well.

But if I have to drink bagged tea, and right now I do, I’m glad we have Mighty Leaf.

Oh man, I should totally have done that. Also, you have to admit that the nice material-y tea bags are waaaaay better than the paper kind.

They are, but bags of any kind “restrict the leaves”-wank-wank-blah-blah-problematize….

Backlogging from yesterday due to a 7 hour power outage in my town…

I had a great tea log for this tea written yesterday, but when the power went out, it got deleted some how. So I’m going to keep this one really short and sweet, because thats basically how this tea was. The cup only took me about 3 minutes to finish and it was pleasantly sweet. The peach aroma and smell are my favorite of all the teas I’ve tried and the green/white teas blend perfectly. My favorite tea to date.

This is the last tea that I had to try from Mighty Leaf, and I was a little turned off by some of the ingredients listed on the box. I’m not a fan of licorice at all. But I went in with an open mind anyway, and was pleasantly surprised. As the tea was steeping, the aroma of cinnamon was most prevalent, and was extremely pleasing. The liquor looked almost green tea like. The taste was nothing like the original cinnamon smell surprisingly. The mint flavor dominated the tea, with hints of sweet flavor underneath it. Definitely the best herbal tea I’ve tried so far.

So my birthday just passed last week, and my sister got me three boxes of Mighty Leaf Tea Pouches. Basically, loose leaf tea in a nice silk pouch. Yes, I do prefer the true loose leaf tea, but hey…whose going to complain about some new teas to try? So this was the first black tea I’ve had in a while, and I was really looking forward to it. The box only had steep time directions (4 minutes), so I let the water come to a complete boil. The aroma only has the slightest hint of vanilla smell. Its very pleasant, but not overpowering by any means. When the tea first hits the tongue, the vanilla taste really isn’t there, but it shows up a few seconds after the initial sip. The aftertaste is sweet and satisfying, and leaves me wanting another taste. Overall, this is a very tasteful and relaxing tea. Good first impression of Mighty Leaf.

Had this, bagged, in my meeting yesterday, and it was the one thing that was making it livable. However, it wasn’t the best of teas – it was just decent. I drank with milk and sugar, and would probably not like much without because there was this background “blea” to the tea that I can’t put my finger on – possibly the black tea base? Icky vanilla beans? Not sure. However, it is a heck of a lot better than the bad coffee they’re offering, or the incessant soda cans.

Today was a rather draggy day, and I decided to treat myself to an XL cup of tea from Good Earth Cafe at the university. Spending $2.50 (plus GST) for a single tea bag and a bunch of hot water isn’t usually my cup of tea, so to speak… but some days you just need the tea.
I had had the Vanilla Bean on a previous occassion and hadn’t been greatly impressed. It always seems to call to me… like it ought to be Earl Grey gone vanilla instead of bergamot. Regretfully, it never turns out this way. I’m not sure if it’s that the tea isn’t black enough, or if it’s one of those teas that just needs a splash of milk to wake it up. Today it just didn’t do it for me. And had a sort of strange plastic-like taste to it (I was sipping from the edge of my cup, not the plastic travel lid).
After my experience with this species of Mighty Leaf, I don’t think I would ever feel inclined to spend the upwards twelve dollars for 15 bags. Reading reviews of other ML teas, it seems that they do make some enjoyable ones. Vanilla Bean would appear to be the lemon.
