Love this tea! I bought a big bag of it on sale after receiving a sample of it in a previous Mighty Leaf order. Usually I am not big on coconut but this is a good “unwinding” tea. The taste rolls off the tongue really smooth-like. The scent is great, too. Subtle and soft.

I like tea like this, but I think it’s rather tedious to make. Like any powder + water combination, there are always chunks that are left. Probably because I don’t have the right equipment for it; Perhaps I will like it better when I do. Flavor is nice, and it’s nice to be able to mix this into other things, like yogurt.

As I said, I am running dangerously low on my Strawberry Matcha and my Mandarin Matcha – going to have to reorder soon, but trying to go through my other Matcha stashes before I get to that point.

I have a decent sized bag of this, because it comes as a mix in 4 ounces. Honestly, this mix is fantastic alone, slightly sweet, nice and frothy and creamy, using just water – You almost get a shake when you make it with milk, and if you use orange juice you get an orange creamsicle matcha shake. All versions are delicious, but I am using it in my protein shake still. Since it is not straight matcha, I tend to use more.

2 scoops Vanilla Dream Protein Powder (use the included scoop)
2 scoops Matcha Latte Mix (it comes with a scoop also)
8 ounces of milk

This is very thick, yet goes down very easily. The vanilla mixes well with the Latte Mix and matcha flavors, though it seems I am missing the added boost of flavor I get from either strawberry or mandarin orange. I should look into adding a fourth ingredient for some extra hidden flavor if I continue to use this.

Enjoy!

Cofftea

Cinoi, before you run out w/ either- you must try them blended together in a drink. I suggest just plain water.

Cinoi

Cofftea, will do…

This morning, one scoop into my strawberry and cream protein shake. Definitely made it better :)

Jillian

Yum, that sounds scrumptious. :)

Here we go.

As stated: I was trying to make Matcha Shots ala Jamba Juice.

So, I also bought from Mighty Leaf the Matcha Green Tea Latte/Frappe Mix. It is Matcha with filler and sugar and directions on how to make Lattes and Frappes. Using a blender, milk and 1 scoop (1 tsp) of Matcha.

I made it in a variety of ways:

1. Using a shaker (to make mixed drinks with the strainer). 8 ounces of soy milk, two ice cubes and a scoop of Matcha. Shake vigorously, strain into glass leaving ice and foam behind.

This was good, though time consuming. Takes too long to do in the morning right before work, but it yielded good results.

2. Using the Magic Bullet, blend two ice cubes along with milk (I have used soy and organic 1%).

This was good, took up less time (so good for the morning before work), but it was very frothy. I was not upset about this, because the froth/foam was cold from the ice and was enjoyable.

3. I tried this the traditional Matcha route. Blasphemous, I know. But I used hot water and blended (because as said, I do not have the bowl and whisk and I did not want clumps). It was still good, probably more so because it had sugar in it, but it was not traditional.

4. Finally, I have gotten this Matcha mix into protein shakes. I am not suggesting you do this, but I am adding it to strawberry protein shakes, which may sound awful, but I like Matcha and anything will help protein shakes.

Overall, a decent product, good because you get a large amount and it is not that expensive. This is because it is not pure Matcha. I may get some attitude about this, but I feel that if you are trying to make Matcha lattes and frappes among other things, and not pure Matcha the traditional way, you do not have spend so much money on expensive pure Matcha and can get this filler one instead.

LENA

I was thinking about getting some matcha JUST for my protein shakes. Great minds…

Cinoi

Absolutely! It is good, I’d like to try it with vanilla protein shakes when I finish up the strawberry.

I have bought this Matcha from Mighty Leaf. It is typical Matcha, no better or worse than any others I have tried. I made it with hot water. I admit, I do not have a Matcha bowl with the fancy whisk, I am not at that level of sophistication with the Matcha. Yet. What I was trying to do was make Matcha Shots ala Jamba Juice.

So, I also bought from Mighty Leaf the Matcha Green Tea Latte/Frappe Mix. It is Matcha with filler and sugar and directions on how to make Lattes and Frappes. Using a blender, milk and 1 scoop (1 tsp) of Matcha. I have a review for that, but it is not on the site yet and I feel bad posting it on another product.

So until then, this was good Matcha powder.

Cofftea

I wish I could enjoy matcha at nite and still sleep.

Carolyn

Me too!!!

Cinoi

I know! I’m pretty lucky though, I can drink anything at any time and it won’t interfere with sleep. (Knock on wood.)

Running late to a hair appointment, I had to take a travel mug of Vanilla Bean since I had no time for breakfast. I added a splash of milk and perhaps I splashed too much. It tasted milky and faintly vanilla with little tea taste. But it was very hot and I didn’t get to drink it all.

I’ve been on the fence about this hair stylist. The hair cut was not bad but it was not what I asked for and I told her as soon as I saw what she was doing that I didn’t want. I think I will be trying a new one next time.

This tea is definitely better on the 2nd steep, no milk. Less strong, bitter.

I forgot to say on my last tealog. I ordered A&D DFT Series 2 this morning! It was getting too low in stock and I was getting nervous I’d miss ordering it before it ran out. I was #24. Carmel, here I come!

I have very little left of rooibos chai so tonight I’m planning to look up someone’s, can’t remember who, stove top chai recipe with milk on the Steepster forum. I remember seeing a good looking one. I’m going to drink it while I watch more of PBS’s Masterpiece Contemporary’s Place of Execution or while I read The Shipping News. Except, I put the burner plates in the dishwasher to clean!! They need to get done soon so I can use the stove.

This morning I had a cup of Vanilla Bean with milk with my 10 grain “oatmeal” with milk and honey. I think I could taste the vanilla today, or maybe something that reminded me of vanilla. Still not a favorite, but drinkable. Sometimes I just reach for a bagged tea when tired.

Vanilla Bean is one of the few tea I remember disliking the first time I tried it. I’ve largely left it alone since then. The husband and I were in a massive slump at 5pm this evening so I dragged myself off the couch. Vanilla Bean, being a bagged tea, was an easy black to brew to pick us up a moment when we weren’t looking for a great tasting tea. I tried more milk, a shorter 3 min brewing time, and slightly cooler water, looking to reduce the bitterness and perhaps bring out the vanilla. It was a decent cup but still without much vanilla taste. I’m currently drinking a 2nd steep made with both of the bags. Plenty strong enough for a 3nd steep but still a so-so tea.

I had the second brewing of this morning’s Vanilla Bean with a leftover chicken enchilada for lunch then some pineapple for dessert. Warm and tea-y. That’s all I have to say about this cup.

I got a sample of this in my Mighty Leaf order that came yesterday, and will be trying later. All these bad reviews are making me nervous.

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

I’m interested to hear what you think, Bethany. It’s not a bad tea, as in yucky, it’s just not something I’d drink and say that was some good tea.

Bethany

I posted a review yesterday morning – I really didn’t like it. The black tea in it was kind of bitter and tasted cheap, and the only place I could place I could get any vanilla was in the aftertaste. Bleh.

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

I totally agree with you.

I tried the Vanilla Bean with milk this morning, per Jillian’s suggestion, and it was much better this way and more drinkable. It still has the strong vanilla smell and only a general black tea taste. I will finish the box as a morning black though. This does not make me interested in buying more Mighty Leaf teas.

Auggy sent me some Colonille from SerendipiTEA and it was absolutely delicious. I did a review of it a few days ago (Auggy and takgoti have reviews of it too), and it’s a really, really awesome vanilla black!

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

Mmm… That one does sound yum, teaplz. I’ve noted it in my Shopping List. Thanks. I don’t always get to go back and read all the tealogs of those I am Following. I do like blacks with what I’ll call “baking flavors”. I tried the Might Leaf tea because it was on sale and I’d seen it mentioned here before.

rabbysmom

Hey chrine- I’ve never tried the Vanilla Bean but if your out for a flavored black, give the Orange Dulce a try. Verrry good even without anything added!

rabbysmom

Adding a comment to say if you want to try any decaf ML go for the African Nectar or Chamomile Citrus.

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

So you’re saying there is hope for Mighty Leaf yet, RM? I also got the Orange Dulce instead. If they are sill on sale on Sat, maybe I’ll pick it up.

Jillian

I’d recommend the Orange Dulce and the African Nectar in particular, but then, since I also liked the Vanilla Bean, I’m not sure our tastes really coincide! ;)

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

There is that too. We can always run and hide from each other’s favored teas.

I made the husband a cup of Vanilla Bean while we were waiting for dinner to cook (chicken enchiladas – yum!). The husband is a coffee drinker and I wanted to see what he’d think of the strong tea. I did brew it for a min less for him – three min instead of four. He said it had a lovely vanilla smell but no vanilla taste which was discerning to him because it seems like it should taste of vanilla if it smelled so much like it. He said the tea wasn’t overly strong so the decreased steeping time seems to have helped.

I don’t ever re-steep bagged teas. But this one was quite strong and I brewed it for less time than recommended so I decided to try brewing it a second time. I was much surprised to be right when it turned out tasting much like it had this morning with a little less strength. It still has little vanilla taste and is still bitter.

Earth Fare, our regional Whole Foods-style grocery, had a sale on Mighty Leaf Teas so I brought their Vanilla Bean since I’m running low on blacks. I’ve never tried Mighty Leaf Teas before. This is the first bagged tea that I can remember having visibly whole leaves. After steeping, when I pulled the bagged out, it was plumped to the maximum by the leaves. The tea had a strong black tea smell with a hint of floral vanilla and was dark in color. The taste was not so good. It was strongly astringent black with barely a vanilla hint, very dry and bitter to drink. I am hoping the brewing for less time will improve it.

I remember being greatly disappointed in this blend when I tried it. There is a lot of fuss over Mighty Leaf Teas, and I just don’t get it! I haven’t had one yet that I loved.

Jillian

Try it with milk, it’s much better that way IMO. :)

I ♥ NewYorkCiTEA

I’ll do that with my next cup, Jillian. Thanks.

For a basic flavored tea, this is quite nice. I add a little sugar and cream, and it makes a nice dessert tea.

A bit standard for an Earl Grey, but always quick and easy to brew. Not the first one I reach for, but sometimes hits the spot perfectly.

A nice quality loose leaf tea, in a mesh bag. The vanilla flavor is gentle and adds a sweet note to the tea. I seriously oversteeped this tea, and it still has a mellow taste.

I forgot to log the pot of this tea that I drank yesterday when I was at the coffee shop with some friends. It’s a really nice black tea especially wth a bit of milk- the milk seems to enhance the delicate vanilla flavour.
