This was my other free sample from Mighty Leaf. On first taste and smell, it reminds me of the Tetley tea. I am drinking it hot with no milk or sugar and enjoying it.

This seems to just be a plain black from the Darjeeling region that they made an organic version of. Plain, yes, but good.

drank Bombay Chai by Mighty Leaf Tea
68 tasting notes

I tried this tea while at Nordstrom Cafe and liked it enough to buy 100 foil packs (on sale!) from Mighty Leaf’s website. This is the best bagged chai tea I’ve had to date. It actually tastes spicy without having to simmer it with additional spices! Drinking it right now with milk and pepper honey. Prominent spice seems to be anise, so if you are adverse to that, sample before you buy. I can’t wait to steep this tea with fresh ginger, cardamom, cinnamon sticks, and peppercorns!

drank Rainforest Maté by Mighty Leaf Tea

I chose this tea as one of my free samples with my Mighty Leaf order. I was hoping to find a new mate. I did NOT however read too deeply into the description (bought the tea by its tea bag, if you will) because if I read “rose petals” and especially “licorice” I can assure I would have avoided this tea all together. However, even with my distaste for two of the main ingredients, I tried it and was pleasantly surprised.

The tea itself smells like it is heavily spiced before and after brewing. This smell continues when drinking it, the aroma is almost overpowering, not off-putting, but strong. However, when actually drinking it, the spices along with the licorice, pineapple, rose petals and mate all blend together so that nothing is overpowering, but smooth and delicious.

I drank it hot with no sugar. I will try and resteep the bag, as Mighty Leaf teas can usually be resteeped. I feel that sugar can only make this better, but I am curious to see how much better.

Chocolate? Mint? My middle names! I like this tea and it’s good straight up and also with a bit of sugar and milk. I am drinking the loose leaf but this also comes in tea bags. It seems to be a very reliable, pedestrian tea. I will finish it and enjoy it in the evenings. So far my favorite chocolate tea (not that I’ve done a wide sampling) is Florence by Harney and Sons.

If you like chocolate and mint you will inevitably enjoy this tea—the mint seems stronger than the chocolate. I suspect that there are better ones out there, but I would happily drink this again.

The more tea I drink, the more I start to make judgments about just how I would line individuals types up on a scale. If I could select just one Earl Grey as my favorite, from those I have tried, I could do it. If I could select just one strawberry flavored black tea and just one strawberry flavored rooibos, I could now do it. That does not mean that I will quest to try all of them.

This Chocolate Mint Truffle is very nice; there are days when meat-eaters would prefer a hamburger to a steak and this might just be the hamburger of choc/mint teas. But it’s a good hamburger—not a fast food one, but a hamburger from your local pub that prides itself on making a fantastic hamburger sandwich.

I think it’s time to try a second infusion.

Have you tried Adagio’s cocomint green? AMAZING.

drank Beatles' Blend by Mighty Leaf Tea

If memory serves me correctly…this is one of the first teas I reviewed on here, just under a year ago…I still love this tea, but it got buried in the avalanche that is my cabinet and on top of my counter tops, microwave and into baskets strewn throughout my kitchen. I have since found it and not stopped drinking it.

It’s base is Earl Grey, as we have discussed, I do not like the Earl so I tend to avoid him, but the issue I have with EG is the Burgamot. I do not like it, not at all, something about it, it is sour, it is sweet, it is slightly floral, but there is no depth of levels, it is one-dimensional and I do not enjoy it. Enough complaining. This tea, though Earl Grey based has little-to-no Burgamot, it instead swings right into a malty tea from China, then a crisp English Breakfast tea followed by a deeper rich flavor from Indian tea finished with a hint of Jasmine. The four flavors, though do not seem like they would meld, actually blend and compliment each other very nicely. They infuse into one complex mouth flavor that has levels of delicious depth with natural sweetness and crisp end feel free of any black tea twang.

I infuse tea hot, 3 minutes, no additives. The left over 2 ounces I let infuse about 3 more minutes then add cold water and pop it in the fridge to be iced for later.

This tea is excellent either way!

Huge Beatles fan here, so the name of this one intrigues me. May have to give it a try on the strength of that alone! Helps that I like Earl Grey and jasmine…

When I opened this tea (I bought a loose bag from Mighty Leaf which I was surprised had a tea scoop included for the perfect amount) and smelled it, I was super excited, it smells FANTASTIC!

The taste however, is not as intriguing, it is a strong tea with a powerful combo of black and green tea, then a hint of jasmine and spice. I enjoyed it hot with nothing added. I will try it with variations and update. Definitely worth trying. Enjoy!

On first sip I thought I wouldn’t enjoy this cuppa. I was wrong. I get a strong connection with sunflower seeds (the unsalted version) when drinking this and it reminds me of summers as a child. Very satisfying.

The only word I can use to describe this Early Grey is “peppery”. Not sure if that makes sense or not, but that’s what I get. Not my favorite, but still drinkable.

What do you do the first time you encounter a new tea? Look at it, then smell it. I was intrigued by the variety of ingredients. There’s a lot going on in that little silken pouch. Bonus points for that. But then I sniffed it — and it smelled like cleaning fluids!

Somewhat put off by that, but adventurous nonetheless, I brewed a cup. I’m happy to report that the industrial chemical scent was significantly abated by the hot water bath. Then the taste test: Not bad. A little medicinal, but not bad at all. Then it occurred to me — the “medicinal” comment was more of an emotional reaction than a taste sensation. As I pondered this, it seemed to lead me to an innate sense that this tea was good for me, that it would be a go-to when I’m fighting a cold or sinus problems.

I shared it with my wife. She drank three cups of it the next day. Her stand-by for years when fighting allergies or cold symptoms has been Lipton Honey Lemon black tea. She’s not a tea snob (yet), but since I’ve been buying and trying good teas from Mighty Leaf and Adagio, it’s gotten so that she wouldn’t wash her feet in Lipton, much less gravitate toward the stuff. This one will definitely go on our re-order list. Try it with clover honey.

My favorite among the (few) unflavored greens I’ve tasted so far. Slightly smoky and nutty, it produces a rich and comforting cup. I’m a cardiac patient on a low-caffeine diet, so I appreciate the miniscule amount of caffeine in this medium-bodied brew. I could drink this one every day.

drank Kyoto Rice by Mighty Leaf Tea
45 tasting notes

I am actually traveling in Kyoto at the moment and almost everywhere you order green tea (vending machines, restaurants, etc) you get it with toasted rice flavour. I did not like the flavour first time I had it back in Vanuatu. But here I like it a lot, not sure if it is due to tea quality or my changing tastes or probably both. Another side note is that in most Japanese restaurants you get served hot green tea free which is a nice tradition, all you have to do is ask for hotto Ocha (not matcha).

Love love loving this tea today. Only had 2 packs in the variety pack. Sadly, they are gone now. I steeped each bag twice so now I’ve had four cups. Total repurchase!

My first experience with rooibos. This is a pleasant surprise! Very refreshing hot and after the tea has cooled down a bit. Finally, a winner in the variety pack that I’m plowing through!

Upon another try this morning and then checking out my previous review, I can’t help but laugh. Was I truly saying I preferred Bigelow’s English Breakfast to this? A whole leaf tea bag compared to a measly tea bag which is fine in it’s own right but certainly not in the same category? Hahaha. I have to laugh at myself. :)

This tasted really good this morning. Getting ready to have a second steep- love that about Mighty Leaf.

smile I tried a bag of Taylors of Harrogate English Breakfast the other day, and it was way more bitter than my good old Twining tea bags…but who knows, maybe it was a dud bag? hehe

:D How experienced are you with loose/whole leaf? Forgive me, I can’t remember if you’re one of the people who has stepped out of the bagged comfort zone recently or not. If you are then maybe it’s a question of having gained experience. If not then maybe you were just in a different sort of mood that day. :)

Drinking this morning. 2nd bag out of sampler pack. This time I didn’t add milk or sugar and it held up pretty well on it’s own. Nothing to “write home about” but not bad, considering I don’t feel the need to add sugar or milk!

Continuing on with my reviews from the variety pack… This tea is not all that I hoped for it to be. Good enough, but I wouldn’t buy a box. Again I find myself comparing to Bigelow’s English Breakfast and I prefer the cheaper tea to this one! Go figure.

Marie

Yeah the MLT’s Breakfast Tea is not enough of a robust tea for me. But they do make a good earl grey. I think with these bags it might help to try doubling up to punch up the flavor and robustness.

Had this for the past two mornings at work. Easy since I don’t have to add anything to it. Tastes good too!

Sweet Orange Dulce back in my life after an extended absence, or so it seemed to me. Drinking out of my new Mighty Leaf Tea Top Brew Mug- sleek, convenient, and currently keeping my beloved tea so hot that I can barely drink it! This is just as good as I remember it and even better now that I have my little brew mug that is oh so handy :)

Second round with this tea. Didn’t add any sugar or milk and it tasted awesome! Love that I don’t have to bother with all the “extras”. So much easier and probably the mark of a good tea. Can’t wait to buy a box! This will surely become my morning tea. :) Happy happy happy. Even got my hubby to try a sip this morning!

Smells good, tastes good. A very pleasant tea. I want to say smooth…I think what I’m tasting here are just really well blended flavors. Nice!

Edited to add: What is it with me and this “perfumy” thing? I truly think I must have a slight dislike of Jasmine, and that is what I’m picking up here as I continue to drink this first cup. Still pleasant enough though.

Edited again to add: Can’t stop thinking about this tea even 8 plus hours later. Need to try it again to tomorrow because it clearly made an impression this morning despite the jasmine issue above.

Had this again today on the go in a travel mug. Still wonderful, but with the mug top on I missed out on the wonderful aroma. Starting to realize now that tea really can be such a full sensory experience!

Another one that I didn’t like at first and now have grown to really appreciate. Got another variety pack (yes, I like them) and was really happy to have this cup of tea this afternoon! Tastes lovely.
