Oh wow. That’s good. Better than the cocoa nib buckwheat tea? Maybe so.

Thanks, g. I needed this.

Flavors: Buckwheat, Coconut, Cookie, Rich, Sweet

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more 3 tsp 14 OZ / 414 ML

I think I still like the cocoa version better, but I’m not seeing it available anywhere.

I received a sample of this in the mail today, with gmathis inviting me to have an imaginary tea party with her! I emailed that we would have tea and shortbread cookies (y’all, try the Keebler Cranberry Almond Sandies if you like shortbread!) at 7:30 pm EST.

Ashman and I enjoyed this, and Ashman was particularly jonesing over the pot as it steeped. Not sure if he just wanted cookies that badly or loved the smell of the tea, but he insisted on giving me notes. He says, “very organic tasting, is it corn I taste? It’s mild, I like mild tea. This is good.” Then he pretended he didn’t want the last cookie until I told him I was full and had intentionally set out three for him and two for me and to have at it.

The coconut is smooth and creamy/oily. It doesn’t smack you in the face like some overpowering coconut I have had in teas.

Thank you, gmathis, for a fun evening tea party!

Kelmishka

Imaginary tea party! Love it.

gmathis

There were two little Crumbl cookie boxes on the kitchen table when I got home from work last night…so big and sinful, you have to cut and eat them in small wedges like pie. No shortbread, but the lemon poppyseed was awfully good.

ashmanra

Ashman was very much into it and wanted to know how our participation was counted as dual. Were we going to video call? Were we going to text? I told him no we were just mutually drinking tea and eating cookies and would email each other.

Later he asked me if I had heard from you, and did I tell you, “Never mind about the mess! It looked fine!” Hahahahaha (Because I told him that your card that said to ignore the imaginary horrible housekeeping!)

gmathis

Good thing…there’s Christmas box paraphenalia, writing assignment notebooks, and cat toys strung all over the living room.

Martin Bednář

But we could do a videocall tea party one day :)

ashmanra

Yes, indeed, Martin! That would be fun! I think Ashman was totally up for that!

Although the package says this will take a second or third steep, the angle of decline is kind of sharp. However, I like this coconut-cookie blend so much, to prolong the love, I tossed in a decaf Ty-Phoo tea bag. Result: Vanilla Comoro’s hippie stepsister. Not bad!

derk

Ha! You, too, with this tea tonight. Good stuff.

ashmanra

Oooo, good call for the resteep!

Added extra time and milk. Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride, you’ve got competition this season!

Nik

But SCSR gets the marketing win: just the name made my mouth water!

gmathis

:o) I’ve got a partial box of Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride gathering dust in a corner as well…it would be the prudent thing to do to drink that first. I’m not sure prudence is in my DNA.

Oh, y’all…remember the buckwheat tea with cocoa grist many of us were raving about because it tasted like chocolate chip cookies? I found its BFF rounding out an Amazon order to get free shipping.

Rewind to the 70’s in the church fellowship hall at snack time between choir and Mission Friends. “Grandma” Bacon (kool-aid and cookies were her love language) would have our cups and napkins lined up, and on the napkins were crispy packaged coconut-sugar cookies. I can’t remember the brand for the life of me. This tea is those cookies and her smile. If I’d let it go an extra minute (4 instead of the recommended 3) and added milk, this tea would be those cookies and her hugs.

Michelle

Sounds yummy. Were those the cookies that looked like a rectangle clam shell with ridges along the top. Side note, now I have a hankering for those windmill shaped cookies.

gmathis

I remember both of those! The ones I was referring to were more like these (https://voortman.com/product/coconut-cookie) … but they had a small hole in the center. (Then again, age and nostalgia may be causing me to retrieve fuzzy information!)

ashmanra

Our cookies looked like this – https://www.amazon.com/Salerno-1110-Butter-Cookies/dp/B00H3T16GI

I never knew what they were called so I always called them church cookies! You had to wear it like a ring for at least a bite or two!

Michelle

Now I have a hankering for ring-petal cookies :)

Cameron B.

There’s an apple cinnamon flavor too!

gmathis

…and it’s the same brand as our beloved cocoa grist variety. I wish they’d bring that one back!

Cameron B.

Yeah I wanted to try that one… T.T

This was a gift from derk, thank you so much!

Some rain has finally pushed in this morning, causing me to brew my first cup of hot tea in months. I enjoy plain mugicha, so I’ve been looking forward to this!

I’m surprised how strongly I can smell the cocoa on the nose. It’s sweet, like chocolate chip cookies on a cooling rack. It really comes through in the taste, too! I was expecting that strong, roasty, coffee-esque flavor of the barley with maybe a chocolately background hint, but instead I’m getting gooey chocolate chips and sweet dough with crispy cooked edges. There is something a little peanutty about the flavor too, reminding me of soba tea.

It’s not what my brain was expecting, but it’s delicious! Tastes more like chocolate chip cookies than any tea I’ve ever had before specifically titled as such.

Flavors: Chocolate, Cookie, Grain, Nutty, Peanut, Sweet

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 8 min or more 1 tsp 12 OZ / 350 ML
Cameron B.

I think this one is a sobacha, made from buckwheat, which is probably why it didn’t have a strong roasty flavor like mugicha. Sounds delicious!

Mastress Alita

I guess somewhere in my sleepy brain I mixed up buckwheat and barley (doesn’t help I’m far more used to just saying “sobacha” and “mugicha” than the translations). I guess that explains why I tasted the peanutty flavor I get from sobacha and not the roasty coffee flavor I get from mugicha, heh.

gmathis

Isn’t this delicious? Definitely chocolate chip cookie tea! I’m glad you got to try some.

Cameron B.

Really sad that they don’t seem to offer this blend any more… I did get the apple cinnamon version to try. I guess I’ll have to try mixing sobacha and cacao myself ha ha! :P

Mastress Alita

I was thinking of going the “blend it myself” route as well…

mmmm… of course I love this one.  Thanks so much, Kawaii433!  Other Steepsterers have not been wrong about this one!  I knew I loved buckwheat… it’s a fantastic flavor change from a usual nighttime tea. BUT THEN added with anything chocolate flavored!  That is amazing stuff.  The buckwheat itself is somehow a complex flavored thing — I swear each sip is different as it moves around my tastebuds.  And the chocolate just mixes perfectly with it.  However, I think it would be even better with cocoa shells than cocoa nibs.  I could always remedy that though, and add my own cocoa shells.
Steep #1 //  1 1/4 teaspoons for a full mug // 10 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #2 //   just boiled // many minute steep (10+?)

gmathis

I looked for this on Amazon recently … didn’t see it. Ashmanra shared a sample with me a while back though…it was sumptuous.

Cameron B.

Harrumph, they don’t seem to have this blend at the moment…

ashmanra

This is so odd. There is no tasting note from me for this tea. I think I gave the pouch to someone who loved it, intending to replace it, but forgot to do so and then forgot it existed.

tea-sipper

oh no! I hope this one is available again at some point! Ashmanra, I don’t see a double entry on Steepster for this tea anywhere, so I don’t know what happened to your note!

Martin Bednář

It seems they have moved to Dubai? Either way, I have found their website, but none with cocoa :( https://www.naturesownfactory.ae/buckwheat-tea

Martin Bednář

And found this cocoa one in Estonian shop here: https://ostakohe.ee/en/shop/natures-own-factory-en/tatratee-purustatud-kakaoubadega-100g/

However, not sure about shipping outside Estonia + I don’t know anyone there; but if they would deliver it to Finland, I can try to ask my Finnish friends to be a courier over the ocean :)

tea-sipper

Thanks Martin – I don’t need any buckwheat right this moment, maybe another time.

Martin Bednář

But maybe others :)

Kawaii433 introduced me to this ‘buckwheat tea drink’. I hope you’re well, tea friend.

Good buckwheat and cocoa aroma with no added flavoring. Thin but creamy and easy to drink, gulpable once cooled. Hits the spot when I want something sweet and desserty but light. I’m gonna say this tastes like a chocolate digestive biscuit.

Perhaps we in the United States will never see this Russian company’s offerings again. That would sadden me as this is fun little hot beverage.

Yes, I fell in love with it about the time it started disappearing.

Kawaii must’ve gone back in time to hijack an Aloha Airlines plane to use their cookie oven and then piloted the plane through a portal above Mt Shasta only to end up in my kitchen 4 hours and 30 minutes south down I-5 with a pan full of warm chocolate chip cookies that turned into a mug of tea as she disappeared before my eyes with arms full of smiling kitties.

Really, you shouldn’t have!!

2tsp:10oz, 212F, 5+ min

Flavors: Cocoa, Cookie, Nutty, Wheat

Kittenna

Such imagery! You make this sound really good… I really want freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies now.

gmathis

Is that not amazing stuff?

derk

Bought a bag :)

ashmanra

derk: I did, too!

A little sample of this came my way from ashmanra (thank you kindly)! I’ve never tried buckwheat tea in any configuration, but after smelling this as it steeped and tasting it afterward, I don’t think there could be a better combination. Scented just like fresh chocolate chip cookies! The flavor is milder, but certainly carries the cookie vibe well.

Conditions being what they are, and this originating from a Russian company, I’m thinking the opportunity to purchase this may be limited in the future, but for this moment, I’m sitting here smelling the empty mug and smiling.

ashmanra

I am glad you enjoyed it!

gmathis

The second steep was almost as strong as the first, too!

Kittenna

I’ve really enjoyed buckwheat teas, but haven’t heard of this combo before!

So I love buckwheat tea. Always buying all kinds. This company makes one with cocoa grist so I decided to try it. Let’s just start that the aroma is utterly intoxicating. The chocolate aroma is similar to someone is baking cookies. I can’t get enough of the aroma. The taste is equally as good and it isn’t sweet. It’s chocolately. I mean, real chocolate notes not an “Am I just fabricating the taste in my mind?” type of chocolate tea. The cocoa goes so well with buckwheat.

I tried to find other makers of a similar combination but the only one is this one and it is from Russia. I have bought 3 or 4 bags of it because I always want it around. The kicker is… I don’t even like desserts but this is so good, so comforting to me and it is good for me.

If you don’t like desserts and I’m not so much a fan either, this sounds like something I have to try!

gmathis

Wow. Yum!

Kawaii433

Yeah guys, it’s incredible… At least to me. lol

ashmanra

Where did you find this?

Kawaii433

I get it on Amazon.

Martin Bednář

Seems to be Russian company! Interesting.

hawkband1

That sounds good.

ashmanra

Kawaii433: Thanks! I saw it there but wanted to make sure it was a good source!

Kawaii433

Yes, it is a good source. I think it’s the only source too hehe. I looked for other places, but found only one other who sold it. And @Martin Yes, Russian. I love the people, just not their leader >.< lol

Martin Bednář

Same here Kawaii433.

ashmanra

Ordered!

Kawaii433

Ashmanra, let me know what you think. hehe It is really good for our tummies too, the cocoa and buckwheat are soothing.

hawkband1

I ended up purchasing this and I really like it. Great chocolate flavor! Thanks for pointing it out!

Kawaii433

Yay. I know taste is subjective so that is great news. hehe

ashmanra

Ashman, eldest daughter Superanna, and I all liked it! My pouch is almost half gone and I haven’t made a latte with it yet, something I really want to try. Also, I sent you a message on FB messenger!
