drank Three Mint by Pukka

Another favorite grocery store brand of mine in the UK is Pukka. I grabbed this one on our latest trip while we were at Tesco because I needed a warm minty beverage while I froze in the damp of Ireland. I like Ireland, but it is cold and damp and you need lots of blankets and socks and hot beverages.

This is peppermint, spearmint and fieldmint. I feel like we don’t really use fieldmint in the US? But it wasn’t anything much out of the ordinary. This is a nice sweet minty tea. I drank a box and a half in 2 weeks and brought a box back with me too.

drank Relax by Pukka

While I didn’t notice any drastic relaxation from this, it does seem to help de-stress a little bit. Very strong licorice flavor, so if you’re a fan of licorice, I would definitely recommend drinking this tea at the end of a long day. Given that I don’t really enjoy the taste of licorice, I wouldn’t personally buy this again.

drank Turmeric Gold by Pukka

Hm. I love my first tasting note for this tea, didn’t love it quite so… eloquently… when I drank it last night. Perhaps just not in the mood? Dunno. I think I over-steeped it though, and thus the grassy bits of the green turned astringent and sour. I’m sure it’s user error, so leaving everything else as-is.

Turmeric lovers, rejoice!

I love turmeric tea. I make it from scratch all the time, but, it’s a huge mess and stains everything. So I prefer to find pre-mixed turmeric tea, it just makes my life easier.

Out of all the turmeric teas I’ve tried (I think more than 20 now, I’d have to check for sure), this is my favorite.

It’s STRONG, for starters. No powder that I can tell in this tea, it’s more of a small rock shape, for the turmeric, anyway. Perhaps little flakes of the actual root?

Next up, it’s smooth, I’m sure because of the licorice root. Then, the lemon is a surprising astringent twist. Both whole lemons and lemon oil. I thought it would be overpowering, but it’s not at all. I had to look at the ingredients twice, asking myself, “Is that citrus? No…”

Yes, yes it is.

This is probably to die for with some coconut milk and honey, but since I’m not using honey at the moment.. wah. Someone do tell me if they try it!

Never tried turmeric tea but I’ll have to now!

I keep meaning to get around to trying a turmeric tea. Is the cardamom very noticeable in this?

MissB

Wow @rosebudmelissa, so odd that I didn’t reply to this. I had it again last night, didn’t even notice the cardamom. Having said that, I love cardamom, but it’s one of those spices you can easily overdose on. I don’t notice it in this tea.

drank Supreme Matcha Green by Pukka

Grabbed this as an alternative to ridiculously priced matcha – which is all I find in the UK at the moment. Darn traveling. ;)

I miss my matcha, and wish Red Leaf’s shipping wasn’t such a high threshold to come over here. Plus, since I’m on the road so much, it’s tricky to get anything without my being “gone” already, on to the next place. Suggestions for solutions, welcome!

Anyway, this tea. Suggested steep time of 3 minutes is perfect, as i’m finding this gets ridiculously bitter, fast. Did it as a keto / butter tea, didn’t notice anything of substance. Did it today just as a regular tea, and it was tight, astringent and bitter. Got some granularity from the matcha, which made me happy as I was worried there wasn’t any in here. Having said that, zero matcha buzz, which I consistently get with straight matcha. So…

Would I buy this again? Maybe, if I needed matcha in small doses for some reason, and couldn’t get what I wanted at a decent price.

Reasonably priced tea that I bought at Winners. Not bad. The flavour of the green tea mixed with the lemon tastes a tad odd to me for some reason. Not balanced as well as I would have liked. My mom loves this one so I’ve been letting her drink most of it. Wouldn’t re-purchase. Good enough in a pinch though.

drank Night Time by Pukka
9 tasting notes

This is not my favorite night time tea. I am not a big fan of licorice and that’s what I get from this tea.

On the other hand, my cat loves this tea and often grabs the label to try and pull the bag out of the water. She also steals the bags out of my tea box. She doesn’t want to ingest it… she just wants to hold it and rub her face all over it. It seems to act like a cat nip to her. I wouldn’t recommend leaving any felines alone with access to this tea haha!

I don’t mind recommending this tea; however, I have night time teas that I enjoy more.

I use 1 bag in 10 oz of boiling water and I often allow the tea to steep as I drink.

I quite like this tea. No need to sweeten as the licorice sweeten it naturally. As others have mentioned, nice before going to bed.

Ugh oh gods no there’s licorice root in this too? Bear With Me, you are a trouble maker. ;)

Huh. Actually, this mostly just tastes like rooibos. I didn’t steep it long, and I added honey, so maybe that… no, there’s the sweet licorice root grody aftertaste. Haha.

But it’s no completely terrible and I am SO COLD today, I will sit here cuddling my mug.

drank Three Ginger by Pukka

Unfortunately this is the first note I’ve written on this tea, and I’m not really in the mood to actually review the tea, I am more posting this note as a tribute to the late Alan Rickman, my favorite actor, who sadly passed away today.

I’ll keep it short, but I have been a huge Harry Potter fan since about grade three. Read all the books multiple times, went to quite a few of the movies in theatres (I don’t think all of them) and have re-watched the movies countless times. And my favorite character in the movies is definitely Professor Snape. Probably mostly due to the fact that Alan Rickman did a STELLAR job portraying Snape, and I can’t even think of anyone else as Snape ever. And to this day, everytime I see the last movie at a certain part involving Alan Rickman (I won’t spoil, in case people actually haven’t seen all the movies) I break down crying my eyes out. Even after watching the movie so many times, I actually watched it over the Christmas break and broke down with my aunt and uncle there any everything lol.

And yes, Alan Rickman has done quite a few other movies, notably Die Hard and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. And he was also a great villain in those movies as well. He has an excellent voice too, unique and recognizable.

But he will always be Professor Snape to me. Always.

So here’s to you, Alan. Thank you for your wonderful contribution to the film industry and I am happy to have lived in a time where you were an actor. I will try to not be too sad today, but this is hitting me harder than I thought it would. I don’t have many favorite actors, and he was my favorite. Rest in peace.

Oh, and this tea is super gingery and spicy, I’ve drank multiple cups in the past but I will write a more detailed note later.

__Morgana__

So sad. He was incredibly gifted.

Uniquity

Someone on my facebook shared a quote from him that he would be 80 in a chair and reading Harry Potter, and his family would ask him “still?” and he would respond “always”. Snape isn’t his most memorable role for me but that he won’t get to do that at 80 nearly had me crying. Stupid hormones. I really enjoyed him in everything I saw, possibly starting with Metatron in Dogma.

mrs.stenhouse12

I saw that quote too, almost choked me up at work too, and every quote of his I read in his voice in my head as well. I haven’t actually seen Dogma but I feel the urge to watch all movies that he is in now. An amazing man with a true gift of getting into character. :(

There is always this to cheer us up. :)

Not even in top 5 of ginger teas I drank. It tastes a bit artificial and leaves a little unpleasant sweet aftertaste.

It’s not horrible, but I won’t really drink another cup of this.

drank Chamomile & Vanilla by Pukka
39 tasting notes

Initially light like chamomile tea usually is — but unfortunately I cannot taste the Vanilla, and if left to steep too long, takes on a stronger licorice flavour that wasn’t initially evident. Maybe I’m a purist? I just don’t think that chamomile and licorice bode too well. The licorice flavour takes over the delicate flavour of the chamomile.

Still, it is pleasant if you’re feeling poorly, and the packaging is beautiful! Pukka’s box designs are instantly distinguishable. :)

My advice: don’t let it steep too long and it’s a decent cup of chamomile.

I usually use 2 teabags every time for 200ml of water. Then the floral fragrant of the tea really stays after taste.

I have a hard time not buying tea when I’m in the grocery store, even if I know it’s going to sit on the shelf for months and months. I bought this one to aid digestion. There’s nothing terrible about it, but nothing great, either. Sometimes I add it to black tea when I’m mixing a chai. In essence – “meh.”

Found this hanging out in the cupboard at work and figured what the hey, as I’ve yet to import masses of work-tea to my new office.

I didn’t think much of it before adding a sachet of sugar, so I don’t think this will be in my regular rotation of daytime teas, as I’m desperately trying to shift the massive paunch I’ve somehow managed to accrue in the last year. Ugh. I’ve gone up two trouser sizes. So depressing. I can’t afford new trousers. I just keep alternating between two pairs at the office and hope nobody notices I clearly don’t own any other trousers that fit. IT IS SLIM DOWN TIME BECAUSE I REALLY DO HAVE OTHER TROUSERS, HONEST

But I digress. I think the reason I felt the need to add sugar to this is that it has a sweet note behind the predominantly chamomile flavour – that’s probably the licorice root at work. I don’t know what it is about licorice root, but the weird sweetness it imparts to some teas gives me this sort of gross cognitive dissonance that makes me need to add actual sugar to make it palatable (probably because I don’t notice the licorice-derived sweet anymore). Which is a shame, because all the other flavours in here are things I should like. Other than that, I mostly get chamomile. Oh well. At least it was free.
