A sample from Red Leaf I’m just now trying. Thanks Red Leaf for offering these! I love the caramel matchaccino so this should be delicious. It’s basically a version of that without sugar. The fragrance wafting from the bag as a sweet fragrance, even without the sugar.
Latte with milk //
For this cup, I heated nine ounces of milk in the microwave for one minute: just hot enough. I accidentally poured a bit too much matcha in the mug before slowly pouring the milk into the mug and stirring/ whisking while pouring. I’m surprised the cup is this smooth even with this much matcha. It must be the sweetness of the caramel flavor that makes it so smooth… or helps it anyway. I’ve tried a few Red Leaf matchas now and the caramel seems to have the least amount of flavor, but maybe that’s my taste buds. Still delicious though. I’m grateful that Red Leaf had a nice sale recently, since I’m shocked at how much matcha I’ve went through and my last order was in September (!)
Just with warm water//
For this cup, I poured some warm water in a mug while whisking the matcha with a spoon. This makes it easier to taste the flavors. It does have more of a sweetness from the caramel blended this way, but I still say that the caramel matcha has less flavors than others. It seems to be more sweet than flavored. Caramel can work with anything though… like smoothies…
BONUS: Smoothie!
Greek Vanilla yogurt, a ton of strawberries, milk, matcha, whipped cream on top! This was really good but the yogurt had such a low amount of sugar that I probably should have opened my new bag of caramel matchaccino… it would have been the perfect amount of sugar.

This turned out particularly delicious this morning as an iced latte with almond milk. I sipped it slowly, so maybe letting it sit a bit is the key. The flavors need time to meld together? Anyway, it was yummy, and perfect for how hot it is today!
Courtney lets her cold lattes steep overnight. I tried it and it seems to help! I just need to get my act together and remember to make my matcha the night before I want to drink it…heh
Hot latte is the way to go with this one. Thanks for the tip, whatshesaid!!! Absolutely delicious and creamy, now that I got the proportions right. Yay! :)
1/2 tsp matcha, whisked with a fork in about 1-2 oz. of 176-degree water, and then mixed with about 8 oz. warmed almond milk. :) I messed up big time the first time because one of the flyers I had from Red Leaf contradicted their other flyer, and recommended 1 TBSP! That was icky bitter.
Oh yay!! Glad it worked out :)
It would be terrible to hate the one that the whole world loves, haha
After I tried the cheesecake matcha sample last month, I was totally obsessed with matcha. I really enjoyed the iced lattes I made, so I thought I’d order the steepster favorite, caramel matcha. I ordered it at full price like an hour before they put in on sale, and was pretty bummed, but I emailed Red Leaf about it, and they were super generous and sent me a free package of the special offer version. Pretty freaking awesome! Customer service like that makes me want to be customer for life!
So, this matcha is good, but I ordered the distinctive flavor level and now I think maybe I should have gone with robust. I can taste the caramel if I add a little sugar, but it mostly appears in the after taste and as the matcha gets cooler. I tried this both as an almond milk iced latte and straight. I thought the almond milk was hiding the flavor, but now that I tried it straight, I don’t really think it does. I think it’s just my lame tasting abilities. I did find, in drinking it straight, that it was not nearly as grassy as DavidsTea’s matcha matsu, which was a good thing in my eyes. It’d be interesting to see what it tastes like as a hot latte…I’ll have to try that. Overall, though, when the flavor comes through, it’s really delicious with a sweet gooey caramel flavor. I might just up my flavor level next time around.
What’s your recipe? How much matcha vs. ounces of milk? I just made it this morning and I think it had too much matcha because it was nasty bitter. Smelled like delicious caramel though. :(
Aw. I just do as Red Leaf recommends, about 1/2 tsp matcha to 6-8oz of milk, plus a bit of hot water at first to melt-mix the matcha into a liquid
If I use a bigger mug, I put more matcha and more milk but the same water, maybe half – a full shot glass worth (I’m not overly specific but have always enjoyed it!!)
Thank you!!!! I was led astray by one of the pamphlets from Red Leaf, which recommends a tablespoon! I didn’t put that much because I thought that was ridiculous, but I did put in about a half tablespoon! Man, it was so icky! :P Another pamphlet from Red Leaf correctly recommends 1/2 tsp. I’ll try it again with 1/2 tsp. :)
This is a very flavorful matcha with lots of caramel along with a milder vegetal flavor (which you would expect from a matcha). The caramel is mellow and smooth and very satisfying. It is sweet but I should expect that from a caramel. Not much to say about my rating from the previous note (95). Still good. I have a ton of matcha here with both the Matcha TTB and my order from Red Leaf Tea. I’m in heaven! (In the good way…. not dead and sent to heaven. Instead, happy as all heck.) :D
Like all the matchas from Red Leaf, it’s delicious! I make mine with 8 oz. of lite vanilla soy milk, 2 ice cubes, 3/4 tsp of powder. I put it in my little blender and, oh my, its wonderful and frothy and delicious. I used this as my bribe to get some work done… paying bills, doing taxes, etc. Thank you Cheri for this sample!
Flavors: Caramel, Cream
I have an awfully big package of this, it might be time to trade some away. This is a backlog from last night (mainly because I prefer typing on my computer to my iPad). I liked this a lot when I got it, but last night the citrus part just wasn’t doing it for me.
Although, I had sort of a fun thought process. When I was picking it out, I thought, “I’m feeling ‘chamomilly.’” In my brain that evolved into “Camo Millie” who I totally think should be an action figure. She would be dressed in camo and she would have weapons like tiny chamomile needles that she would throw at her enemies and some sort of hibiscus weapon too.
This is your brain. This is your brain on Nyquil.
I liked this one. It’s a strong black tea, with a pleasant mango smell and taste. Nothing artificial or overwhelming. I see this as an alternative to my normal breakfast teas (I tend to like things like Irish Breakfast or Earl Grey, something strong) since it adds a different flavor to the mix.
I have a rather large bag of this if anyone wants to swap samples!
I got this sample from sil, and was eager to try it because of the good reviews. The dry leaf smells amazing. it kind of smells as though it should be one of those Irish cream cappuccinos you can get at coffee shops, that are boldly flavoured. i wanted so much for the taste of the brew to reflect the smell, but alas it fell short. It’s funny, because the brewed aroma is still of a reasonably strong Irish cream, but it tastes very much like a generic black tea, with perhaps a hint of cream at the end of the sip. I brewed for three minutes, and wonder if I should have perhaps brewed for longer. I have enough left for another cup, and might just do that. Those of you who enjoy this tea: how have you prepared it for maximum flavour?
Bottom line: I’m open to trying it again and brewing it differently, but for now at least, I’ll just build my cart on rlt’s site with matcha only. Thanks again, sil!
I really, really, really like this Matcha a lot.
I’ll surely be trying other Matchas from Red Leaf and I think I want to try this one as a black tea matcha too.
Bumped up to 100 rating for me, This stuff is just too good :)

Thank you :)
I had the Caramel Matcha earlier made my usual way but with Chocolate Milk instead, it was super good. Tasted like one of the simply caramel milky way bars. I couldn’t taste the matcha as much because of all the flavor going on but it was still super good.
very sweet!
I saw a post on Facebook for this tea recently witch a special offer of like 80% off So I had to check it out while it was on sale I got 2 of them :)
I’m really glad i got 2 because this stuff is really really good, one of the best Caramel flavored things that I’ve had.
I made this one our Usual way for doing Matcha here at our house, with cold milk and a little sugar and I also tried it hot the way matcha suppose to be made so i can try it both ways.
It as Delicious both ways, I really enjoyed it.
The aroma of this Caramel Matcha reminded me of Whiskey actually, read why on my Blog post :)

Flavors: Caramel
I read VariaTEA’s tasting note on this the other day about drinking it after a bite of salty peanut butter and was inspired to try adding a touch of salt. Wow! I used over 1/4tsp matcha with some sugar, a pinch of salt and whisked it in a small amount of hot water. Then I added milk, ice cubes and shook. Holycrapit’ssogood! I decided to add a tiny bit more salt, which wasn’t bad, but wasn’t as good as the lesser amount, so there is a fine line there. It was just enough to get that salty caramel taste. I then took my mug outside an pulled prickly weeds for a half hour with no gloves on. My hands are now screaming mistake, but my taste buds are quite happy!
Flavored matcha usually comes with a steeper (heh) price tag than I am often willing to indulge in. So when I got the notice that Redleaf was doing a special offer on their caramel matcha, I had to give it a go. When I opened the bag, this wall of caramel scent rose to greet me! It was so rich and thick. I put a teaspoon in a cup with some sugar, poured a little hot water over it, whisked and then added milk. It is really tasty stuff! I’m not sure which grade matcha this is, but when it was warmer I couldn’t taste the matcha at all, only the creamy caramel flavor. As it gets colder there is a little matcha bitterness on the back of my tongue after each sip. It is super delicious stuff and I could see how someone could get hooked on this!
It’s matcha time! Oh we oh we oh!
Yes, I’m doing a matcha dance in my kitchen. It’s all yummy goodness. The doors are open, the birds are singing, it’s Friday and I have a (double sized) cold glass of yummy.
Received a sample of this in my last RLT order, so I’m guessing its specs are basic grade matcha and delicate flavoring.
Two chasaku scoops to 8oz ~145F 8oz of unsweetened almond milk. The aroma of the caramel is so sweet and powerful right out of the bag, but in a good way. If you don’t like caramel then smell-wise this isn’t for you! To taste I only get a hint of the caramel before the milk-matcha aspects come into play. It has a sweet taste, but I am getting a bit of bitterness towards the end of the sip. Will probably order this but in distinctive flavoring and will bump up to royal grade matcha.
This one is delightful in smoothies. I currently have it sitting in the fridge with milk as a cold latte to compare to Caramel Popcorn. :)
