I drank a cup of this at IKEA today, with water of questionable temperature and milk and sugar into the cup at the same time as the tea bag. It was actually better than I was expecting it to be. Kind of comforting and pleasant.
I wouldn’t choose this if there were more interesting options, but it wasn’t loathsome or even bad like I was kind of expecting it to be.
Got the Samples only TTB today. :O My first TTB.
Not as overwhelmed with teas I wanna try as I thought of hoped. xD But that’s alright. I’m picky. :P Really like lemon teas apparently, so decided to try this one!
Pretty creamy, not too lemon-y.
It’s alright. Not the best lemon tea I’ve had. Not the worst though. Just doesn’t have the strength I hoped it would.
Nice to try though!
Flavors: Cream, Lemon
I did my first TTB not too long ago, too! I actually liked it a lot, even though there weren’t a lot of teas I enjoyed in it. :)
It’s a good idea and I’m glad I got to do it! But like Probably won’t do a lot of them. But hey they are probably even better when you’re on a tea buying hiatus, right? :P
It’s nice that you get to try new teas without having any extra left over to sip down. And yeah, I get to get rid of a little bit of tea too. :P
I really enjoyed this English breakfast tea, and love that I found a decaf black tea that I actually like. It’s perfect for brinner, I think – had it as an accompaniment to a vegan version of a full English breakfast and it was absolutely perfect. The reason I don’t give it a higher score is because I haven’t tried a wide enough variety of English breakfast teas to see how it stacks up against other brands. Once I do, I’ll be able to tweak the review. So far, very satisfied.
A better tea compared to Red Rose’s original black tea blend, however overpriced and mostly nothing special.
In-Depth:
Aroma
Has a very similar scent to Red Rose’s original blend, a bit darker. Some cinnamon overtones. I enjoy Red Rose for everyday drinking, so I enjoy the familiar, relaxing aroma.
Flavor
Much smoother than Red Rose’s original blend. Definitely a tone of cinnamon. I find it to be a very mild black tea, perhaps even calming, even with the caffeine. Not much to the tea, but it is pleasant.
Notes
I enjoyed this tea, however I think it was a bit overpriced. It is a pretty standard black tea, but with some unique cinnamon-y tones. It would be a good tea to drink on a daily basis if the price matched the quality. I doubt if I will buy again, at this price, but I will enjoy the remaining tea bags. Give it a taste, maybe it will be worth it to you!
Flavors: Cinnamon, Rice
Preparation
Method: Tea bag in a mug, temp was approximately 195.
Dry Leaf Aroma: Lemon cake! Yum!
Brewing Aroma: Lemon with a hint of cream
Flavor: This given to me buy a friend. I didn’t expect to like it, but I do. It tastes like lemon cake. I tried it plain, and it was good. Then I added a little rock sugar, and it was better.
I oversteeped this because I am at work doing other things, so it probably went closer to 7 minutes than 5. There’s no bitterness, so the tea is very forgiving. The flavor is pronounced, but they didn’t overdo it. I don’t mind naturally caffeine-free teas, but I’m not a fan of decaffeinated drinks, so that’s probably my only issue, and that’s minor.
Preparation
This plain black tea blows Lipton away. Its flavor is just better. Yes its a plain, cheap black tea, but compared to its competitors (Lipton) its no contest.
This makes a good Iced Tea as well.
If your looking for a fancy, high quality tea…this is not your tea. If your looking for a plain cup, nothing special, this is a good choice.
It also comes with a free ceramic sea animal figure! (Its a limited time promotion….very silly)
Yep, we’re there. It’s so hot and humid I don’t care about any tea characteristic other than COLD. This is an acceptable cold Mason jar steep when you don’t care about being finicky and are putting away cold drinks by the gallon. Red Rose in general is a little less acidic than U.S. counterparts; the decaf version is milder still.
Score another modest win for this Cheapster Steepster…a good long steep in a cup with two plentifully leafy sprigs from the chocolate mint plant. It was rich and tasty—not York Peppermint Patties, mind you, but you didn’t have to think to hard to get the chocolate. The Red Rose made a good, unassertive base. I’m going to be a rebel and press the “Yes, I would recommend” button.
I’m going to buy a chocolate mint plant this weekend just so I can do this. I have a few decaffeinated teas lying around that aren’t that appealing, but a bit of mint might help them out.
Cortisone shot in a shoulder with a messed up rotator cuff. Doc said a possible side effect might be a little insomnia tonight. Right now, I’m so beat, I can’t see how that can possibly be an issue…but as a precaution, I’ve been off caffeine all afternoon.
Sun tea’d a quart of this poor, undervalued, unloved bagged baby with a generous helping of sprigs from our applemint plant. (Me. Not killing plants. People who know me should be laughing in disbelief by now :) It was absolutely fine.
ah, I hope it helps. I want some cortisone shots with my shoulder problems but Dr says none until August at the earliest.
K S … we think the magic is the pots. Stuff we put in our ground is doomed. I have a flower bed by the front sidewalk that kills marigolds and zinnias.
TB…insomnia confirmed, but typical morning pain wasn’t there. It’s a temporary fix; I need to pretend I’m an invalid for a couple of weeks to promote healing. Life without shoulders the weekend we move elderly dad back to the farm. Ought to be interesting :)
Oh, no! I am sorry! Rest, and baby that sore spot. I had a cortisone shot once. I wrote outlandish, horrible expensive-to-implement business proposals for my boss (thank goodness, I never gave them to him) and ate EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!
Dr. didn’t recommend a sling, but it is hard not to instinctively use it. (I’m a lefty, but do most “chores” right handed.) Have moved mouse to left side and am propping with a pillow at my work desk. We’ll see how that works.
I’m a lefty too. I also do many things right handed. My wife had surgery on both shoulders (different times) for torn rotator cuff. Cortisone did not help her at all. Hoping better for you but with what you have going on at the moment that sounds not so likely. Sorry for the pain. If it is any consolation my wife recovered very quickly both times after surgery. As for the ground – hey that’s what happens when you build over a nuclear dump site ;)
This has gotten very little love so far (poor scruffy stray kitten left at the pound), so I will take it home with me and love it. Less dishwater taste than most unflavored black decaf teas; no distinct stand-out flavor characteristics, but it’s decent hot leaf juice with a little sweetness. No, it’s not top-of-the-heap, but I haven’t found an unflavored decaf black that is. Have you?
This is one of the few black teas that I absolutely cannot drink hot. But that’s okay! This tea has such a pleasant bitterness and dusky flavour that it is perfect as an iced tea in the morning before breakfast to get one’s palate working and woken up. I also enjoy it with just a touch of lemon juice and honey in the evening.
Preparation
I was given a sample of the Blackcurrant Raspberry flavor to try:
You know, there aren’t nearly enough blackcurrant flavored things available in America. I guess we Americans like our sweet flavors, and blackcurrants are more tart and less sugary than strawberries or blackberries. But when blended with raspberry flavoring, as it is in Red Rose Tea’s new water enhancer, the blackcurrant has a rich sweetness that is very pleasant. This almost like real tea, but it’s definitely a doctored flavor, like the drinker added several lumps of sugar before passing the cup to you. Well, cane sugar is the second ingredient, so no surprise there. Still, that distinctive black tea flavor is definitely there. It’ll do in a pinch when I want instant ice tea, but brewing proper tea leaves will always taste better with stronger, more naturalistic flavors.
Flavors: Berries
I was surprised by how much I liked this for a cheap grocery store tea. It really does taste like a cake, but not too overwhelming. I would absolutely recommend, and I think I might have to look at a few more options from this brand for my teabag needs.
Preparation
I’m almost done, I swear!
Anyway, I picked up a few bags of this at the New York Coffee & Tea Festival, and it is one of two grocery store teabags I found at the festival I liked.
At first, though, I found this tea way too sweet. I don’t taste much tea, but the more I drink it, the more I like it. It is a very sweet tea, but it is interesting. It’s very cake like and also quite lemon. The lemon flavor also manages to taste like lemon without tasting like cleaner or soap, which is lovely.
This is a decaf tea, and I have been drinking it at night. I’ll miss it then, as this is my last bag. I have no idea where I can actually buy this tea. It’s a Canadian brand, and I haven’t seen it around. If I do, I’ll probably grab a box. It’s not life changing, but it’s quite pleasant.
Preparation
I received this tea in my Uni VoxBox from Influenster, and I got the Black Tea one. The thing about it that I didn’t like was that on the bottle it says to do one squirt per 8 oz and that is too much. I don’t think I would have bought this if I didn’t try it beforehand, but maybe I’ll try the earl grey one because I love earl grey tea.
Preparation
I was pleasantly surprised by this tea. I tasted a sample of it and took a bag home from the recent New York Coffee & Tea Festival. By the packaging and fact that it is a grocery store brand, I was not expecting to like it at all, but I did!
The smell is absolutely divine, like a a rich lemon. The taste is actually quite complex and well balanced. I could almost literally taste a nice zingy slice of lemon meringue pie while sipping, including the crust, filling, and even creamy topping. This is quite a unique tea and goes well as a “tea time” or dessert tea, but it is not too sweet to deter me from drinking it at other times of the day.
Flavors: Coconut, Cream, Lemon Zest, Vanilla
Preparation
As part of an on-going search for a truly good peach tea, I experimented with this one. The peach is strong at first but is quickly replaced a chemical flavor with sweetness to cover it up. Unfortunately the chemical almost dusty sensation continues in a prolonged aftertaste. It is evident that a peach flavoring agent is used rather than any actual dried fruits. Worst of all, there is no ‘cobbler’ to be found. No brown sugar, something to imitate the buttery dough, no sign of it. The hibiscus is ineffective at best, you can barely detect it over the chemical flavor.
