drank Chocolate and Cream by TeaFrog
411 tasting notes

There’s definitely chocolate and a light cream flavor here. I’m going to leave off the score today because I had this at work where I didn’t have cream and sugar. It wanted cream and sugar, at least to my tastebuds. So I don’t want to do it wrong by not scoring it that way. But I have a feeling it will be lovely with the two of them.

Had just a sample, so I can’t vouch for the long-term sedative effects, but it’s still a pleasant lemongrassy herbal.

Most herbal stress busters lean on a lemony base, and TeaFrog’s Stress Reliever fits the stereotype. It’s pleasantly lemongrass-heavy when you examine the dry blend and when you drink a steeped cup.

My free sample with my TeaFrog order (love free samples!). I was quite curious about this, as I haven’t had many cinnamony teas and the combination sounded intriguing. The smell is SUPER strong, it was basically able to fill my studio THROUGH the packaging. I tried to combat it with incense, but that proved to be only a temporary solution. Thankfully, the effect has since faded.

The first steep was…mostly cinnamony, that is pretty much all I tasted, no rooibos no orange, nuffin. It’s interesting to read other people’s impressions – especially teabird, who had basically the opposite reaction. Am I that big a wuss or did we just get a very different batch? The world may never know. I DID get more orange when the tea had cooled, but that is hardly optimal for a tea called “fireside.”

I’ll try to vary my steeping parameters a bit before I give this a rating, don’t want to judge it unfairly because I was adding too much water, or something!

My tastebuds might just be skewed by Harney’s Hot Cinnamon Spice, which is ridiculously (deliciously!) cinnamon-y. Fireside is probably better balanced :P I just like my cinnamon crazy strong, so the rooibos stands out to me here. Did you ever eat “atomic fireballs,” the cinnamon candy? I may have loved those as a kid…

Sadly I just finished my last bit of this. I really enjoyed it, and it would be especially good on cold nights.

My husband picked this sample out. Too bad I’m catching a cold and couldn’t really taste it. Seemed like an average orange/cinnamon rooibos, but my tastebuds are off.

I hope that you feel better soon!

Hrm. This one didn’t do it for me. I think I’ll hold off on scoring until I try it again…. hrm. Not inspired, and the leaves look kinda tiny and broken. Meh.

Ruh-roh — I got this as one of my TeaFrog samples as well…

Review by Tamara: “I truly enjoy this cup of Tea, from the moment you open the container you can smell the warm aroma of superior loose leaf tea. Black teas are one of my favourites and this one certainly fits the bill…”

Melanie’s Review: “This rooibos blend from Tea Frog Tea is well named – I LOVE this tea!! According to Tea Frog: “Our most popular Rooibos blend, the Love blend is an aromatic delight that you will not be able to resist! This tea is so good, we sample it at every show, and sell out at every show! The scent and flavor are simply to die for!”….”

Review by Mike D: “This green tea is also known as “precious eyebrows” due to its descriptive leaf shape. The rolled leaf is delicate, and boasts shades of dark jade green. A slightly sweet smell to the very small, uniform leaf size, indicative of good finishing and quality tea…”

A review by Jamie: “Dragon Well is one of the first green teas I tasted and one of the flavors that won me over from my coffee addiction. It’s been difficult for me to find a Dragon Well that I truly enjoy because I find the flavor of green tea to be a bit overwhelming for me but this is a fine grade…”

Review by Jamie: “I was told to cut out caffeine for a bit so I went to Teafrog looking for some rooibos decaf amusement and they came through for me with three tisane recommendations. Grabbed them all because I’m self indulgent that way (tea is my only real vise, I swear)…”

Natalie writes: “I’ve been dipping my toe into the waters of the world of green teas and discovering the results can be sensational. I’ve only tested and tasted Japanese green teas, so I’ve been eager to try more Chinese green tea. Knowing that Dragon Well (Lung Ching) has a reputation for being the champagne of Chinese green teas and that it’s known as being a fairly light tea, I thought that this was the ideal time for me to try this tea from Tea Frog….”

So…this is a mug of Love. And when I brewed it up the first time, I oversteeped and it came out murky and dark red — and I don’t know about you, but for me the thought of menstrual blood was kind of unavoidable. The tea didn’t smell in any way bloody, but I definitely had to nerve myself up for that first sip of hot, wet, blood-colored love! And while it turns out to taste sort of woodsy-spicy and a bit mild, context is so much; I really don’t think I can give this one a fair rating, or even a more thorough review.

I drank this right after TeaFrog’s Gingerbread Rooibos, and they remind me a bit of each other. The orange taste is dominant in this as in the Gingerbread one. It’s pleasant, and the flavours all blend well together, but other than that it’s kind of bland to me. I steeped it for at least 6 min, so I don’t think that’s the problem.

Love is my last tea before I try to go to sleep. Wish me luck. My neighbours apparently got a karaoke machine and all I’ve heard for the last 5 hrs is really bad renditions of some songs which will forever be ruined for me. They show no sign of stopping anytime soon, and it’s almost 1 am. They really shouldn’t be allowed to sell those machines to just anybody. Apparently I’m not feeling the Love right now.

drank Gingerbread Orange by TeaFrog

I would rename this tea Orange Almond Cake, or something along those lines. There’s no ginger, which makes it very un-gingerbread-like. It is a pretty good rooibos, though, in the sense that you don’t really taste the rooibos itself. Hopefully that made sense.

Orange is the dominant flavour, with almond following right behind. I maybe get a hint of the cardamom, but I can’t distinguish the coriander from the rest of the blend (probably a good thing). There’s a nice sweetness to it which makes sugar unnecessary.
