I love this even more than I expected!!! It’s clearly earl grey, but it also is richer and more powerful than I would normally expect from any earl grey. I highly recommend it!!

teafiend

I love this one too! I think I actually might buy a tin of it next time I’m there.

A very decent cup, at a decent price. I’d put this near the ~50% oxidation level. It’s got good stonefruit character, a nice softness, a bit of mint-like sensation on the smack and a pleasant buzz. A great daily drinking office tea. Apparently, organic.

I really wasn’t sure if I would like this or not…so…I just grabbed enough for a cup…it’s finishing the infusion now…It smells like Rooibos, Orange, and Chamomile. eeeh

It’s a murky light brown in color.

It has a very sweet and juicy taste to it. Almost like when you bite into an orange…and the juice squirts you in the back of the throat and you nearly choke…lol…anyhow…the first sip I wasn’t too hot on but it did get a little better…tolerable.

It tastes like an orange-E Rooibos…light on the Rooibos…with a VERY small hint of Chamomile…thank the tea gods for that…I’m not into chamomile but this is doable.

I like this one better than I thought I would although I doubt I would buy it if I saw it. Then again it’s one of those don’t judge an herbal/rooibos by it’s blend, I guess. It’s not too bad, really, I guess.

This feels like a formal, girly cup of tea. It’s nice, but more proper than this morning calls for. :)

Shanti

Tealuxe! I just went there today for the first time. :)

laurenpressley

Fun! I hope you liked it! Tealuxe is one of my favorite places, and I always make sure to go a few times when in Boston or Cambridge. Of course, I’m not sure if I’d be quite as enamored if I had one nearby that I could pop into whenever. :)

This is very perfumey, but strangely, not in a bad way! I was expecting something difference after the Rooibos Rose Garden I had last night, but this is a much better cup (for what I like). It’s clearly tea first, but then there is this little bit of rose going on in the background. Yum!

Backlogging from Boston: I was lucky to be able to spend some time in the basement tea bar with a friend and a pot of this tea. It was a lovely time, atmosphere, and pot of tea. Nothing spectacular about the tea, but it was a good, solid oolong.

So, I made a cup of this earlier today, and based on the recommendation of AmyB I added milk and sweetener (of the soy and agave variety). It was better than plain, and struck me as a tea that might be good for a younger person curious about tea. Yum!

gmathis

That’s funny…at least once during the spring I try to serve tea to my fifth grade girls at church (provides a nice atmosphere for just some talking time, and it’s fun to watch them experiment) and I was thinking Monks Blend might be a good choice.

laurenpressley

That sounds perfect! Nearly exactly the scenario I was imagining. :)

Marie

Hi Lauren. So happy you had a good experience with the added soy and agave. Some of those black teas need a little nurturing to tamper the bitter and bring out the flavor that’s hidden underneath. I have to drink pretty much all of my black teas this way to enjoy more fully (but it is a personal preference). Monks blend is a fun tea though! :)

I kicked off the morning with this one. As it was steeping, I began to realize I smelled something an awful lot like children’s cough syrup. Oh right… the grenadine! When sipping the really hot tea, I couldn’t get past the smell. Then… I had a granola bar with chocolate chips in it. As I sipped the really warm tea between bites, it became a really good cup of tea! Then, once the bar was gone, it was a bit off again. So, lesson learned: always have chocolate with this tea. That’s a win-win-win for me! :)

Marie

Hi Lauren, I have this one at home (through the Metropolitan Tea Company wholesaler). You’re so right – it definitely needs some sort of help to turn it into something great. Either food, or cream & sugar gives it the flavor live it needs. I believe this one is Ceylon based tea, so the Grenadine can easily over-power the taste of the tea if not balanced properly. I like your chocolate add too! Perhaps you can through some chocolate chips with the tea into the pot to make your own mixture so you don’t have to have it with a chocolate granola bar every time. Then again you might not want to forgo the bar! :)

laurenpressley

Amyb, good to know!! I’ll have to experiment with cream and sugar in the near future… but the chocolate chips idea sounds fantastic, too. The only problem with that is I’m going to have to wait to get home to try one of these variations! :)

Oh Steepsterites! I’ve been in Boston, at a conference, with less than reliable internet access for my netbook. So, I’m posting now, and will backlog later.

While there, I had a lovely time drinking tea at Tealuxe. I think I went in the shop(s) about 5 times in 5 days! I got several teas, so I’ll be adding them to my cupboard. I also got a cute little teapot.

Since I’m still restricting caffeine, I’m going to have one new cup a day. Today is Monk’s Blend. It’s great! The vanilla isn’t clear to me, but the flavor has quite a kick. Lovely way to start the day!

Well, if you’re traveling without decent Internet access, at least you had the tea to make up for it. I’ve had no-net and no-good-tea travels that were just pretty doggone miserable!

laurenpressley

That does sound miserable!!! I’m glad we both have access to tea and internet now. :)

gmathis

And for what it’s worth, Monk’s Blend is hands-down my favorite fruity tea flavor. I guess grenadine can be considered a fruit since it’s pomegranite based?

laurenpressley

I’d go with that. :) I think I might be with you on that for now… I have a few more fruity ones I just got, so we’ll see if Monk’s Blend holds the first spot after all of them. :)

The flavor is so delicately sweet..it’s almost feminine! It conjures up in my mind an image of a cute little tea party complete with doilies and miniature pastries. To those in Harvard Square…I bet this would taste fantastic with a cupcake from Sweet next door…!

…But I hope I haven’t deterred the he-men. It’s delicious—do try it.

drank Orange Zephyr by Tealuxe

I purchased this tea as one of Tealuxe’s daily brews. It’s an incredible orange tea, and not at all what I expected! It’s not “zesty” so much as “hearty”—almost in the way that beets are!—but it’s overlaid with a subtle sweetness that gives it complexity.

The flavor is very strong, but well-balanced and smooth. There is indeed a lingering, nutty aftertaste that makes this tea satisfying.

It’s so easy to oversteep this tea, but when brewed correctly it is bright and refreshing without being too pungent.

This was the first black tea with rose that I ever tried. It’s a glorious, cozy tea for winter afternoons. Sweetens nicely.

Ooh. I live near a Tealuxe location and just ran out of rose tea. I may have to go see if I like this one.

If you want a bit more of a kick than Copley Square Vanilla has to offer, try this one. An excellent morning/early afternoon tea.
