drank Chocolate Mint by The Tea Haus

This was surprisingly dark for a black tea, but it was decidedly tasty. An earthy base that’s deliciously minty. Like a mint Aero bar. That kind of creamy minty. Shared a pot with my amazing wife for a sipdown, this was really good but I wouldn’t go out of my way to restock. The mint does remind me of David’s Peppermint Amour, which is my favourite mint.

I have some Peppermint Amour that I don’t think I’ll finish (it turns out I prefer DT’s Spearmint). Are you or aisling looking to add some to your cupboards?

Another sipdown! (389/379)

Sharing a pot of this with my wife, mine has sugar and hers doesn’t. It smells earthy and fishy like a puerh, and definitely tastes like a puerh, but it’s supposed to be black. I dunno….it’s very dark, even after a short steep and it just smells heavy, you know what I mean? I don’t smell a lot of chocolate or mint.

It tastes bitter to me, and definitely like a puerh with an aftertaste of chocolate and mint. Like a bitter cup of tea with an Andes mint melted in it. You can kind of taste it but not really.

Meh. Buh-bye, Chocolate Mint.

drank Lemon Grove by The Tea Haus

Backlogging a few days. Attempting a sipdown but we had more of this than we thought – oops! I love all the Tea Haus blacks because the base they use is phenomenal, and this does not disappoint. When I want lemon I usually go for my beloved Lemon Gunpowder or one of the citrus-y oolongs from Davids, but this is a very good alternative. Perfectly balanced flavour.

Yay sipdown! 393/403.

I usually prefer my herbals cold, but I’m eager to get this one out of my cupboard. Maybe I’ll have half hot and put the rest in the fridge.

Or maybe I’ll just chug this and not put myself through a second sitting of this. It’s not so great. First of all, I don’t like how the website only lists some of the ingredients. There is definitely fennel and hibiscus in this, but they aren’t listed. Anyway, it’s a bit creamy, but it’s just…okay. Not something I’m sad to see go.

Someone sent me this in a swap! Thank you to whoever sent me this! I was very hesitant to try this tea becuase you know… Hibiscus.. But I took my chances and brewed it. I cut my time down 30 seconds because you know… Hibiscus.. First sip.. whoa… that kind of tastes like sugar… second sip… not tart…? Third sip.. it tastes like Smarties!!!!! It’s fruity and sweet. The flavor makes the mouth feel powdery. Like you just poured Pixie Stix in your mouth. I was super surprised by this tea. Omnomnom!

Dang, this one is my fault. I set about making tea while I tidied my kitchen and got distracted by arranging my teaware. To the point that I forgot about the tea completely and let it steep for way, waaaay too long. It’s not bad, it’s just very…MATE, with a back hint of mango. Which sucks, because I know how juicy and yummy this one can be. But I also enjoy straight mate, so it will be no issue to finish this mason jar-full. I’m just excited that I finished my 1.5 L of water before 4 so I could have a high-caff blend like this!

I have been ignoring my green tea’s lately in favour of black tea’s. This one has been sitting in my cupboard (virtual and real) for quite some time. It was one of the first tea’s that I ordered online.

The first few times I’ve tried this I wasn’t very impressed. It seemed to lack flavour. I must have been doing something wrong either with the water temperature or steep time, because now I love it. When I steep it correctly I get a sweet, creamy butter flavour that is just so good. When I steep it too long it tastes like bitter vegetables.

Now that I’ve figured out how to make this delicious I suspect my sample will be done some time in the next week. I would even consider ordering it again.

drank Kabuse Houjicha by The Tea Haus

Dry, this tea has the most interesting smell. Not only the toasty smell, but something fruity and sweet to it as well. It is a green tea that has been roasted, so it’s not your typical green tea, which I like. When steeped, the leaves have a completely different smell. They smell burnt, and not very appetizing at all. But this has little bearing on the liquid itself, which smells a bit smoky. It has the astringency of a mild black tea, along with a very slight sweetness on the back end. There is a lot going on in this tea, and I’m enjoying it immensely.

Second steep: I gotta admit, I was skeptical about steeping for only 15 seconds. The only time I’ve ever steeped for that little amount of time was with Tetley Bold. But this infusion turned out stronger than the first! Less astringent, with more of a woody taste coming out.

Third steep: The leaves smell more like a black tea now. The tea tastes a bit more mellow, but there is still a lot to it. It’s been 5 hours since the first steep and I’m still loving this tea!

I’ve now spent the entire day enjoying this tea, which is absolutely amazing! I would definitely get this again, and recommend it to anyone.

drank Moroccan Mint by The Tea Haus

Went to the Tea Haus a loooooong time ago to get a cup of tea with my dad. I tried this one, since the smell was “blow your sinuses out” mint, with a hint of green tea smell. Well, the taste was more like the other way around. This was my first try of gunpowder green tea (which I have now come to know and love).

At the time of my first few sips I thought it was OK. Then I liked it more and more. I should have bought some while the urge struck, but didn’t. I’ll have to go back to try it again to see if it’s as good as my mind remembers it. If so, I’m buying a bag.

drank Fireside Blend by The Tea Haus

This used to be my go-to tea for after dinner tea sipping. I love the intense flavour of it (tart, but not sour. Just enough balance of the rosehip and hibiscus with everything else), and the bright pink colour is my favourite :)

Just finished my last two scoops of it (from a long time ago…this tea doesn’t necessarily “age well”, although it wasn’t terrible) so I need to make the trek back to get more.

drank Pomegranate Green by The Tea Haus
162 tasting notes

I don’t know if I would call this a “fabulous” blend. It’s not terrible, but it’s certainly not great.

First of all, I find it hard to believe there’s anything “pomegranate” in there except artificial flavour. Even the so-called natural flavour in there doesn’t taste a thing like a pomegranate. I taste orange-ish from the peel, but that’s about it. And I definitely taste green tea; can’t let this one steep too long or else it gets real bitter real fast.

Definitely wouldn’t re-buy this one. I think maybe I just don’t like attempts at “pomegranate green tea” (or any combination thereof) since they taste nothing like green tea with pomegranate seeds in it.

drank Pumpkin Spice by The Tea Haus

Yes, don’t like it this time around either. I added brown sugar and creamer. It’s alright, tastes a little like “glitter and gold” which I totally hate, but this is not as heavy on the ginger and clove. I kinda feel like I wasted my drop of cream and pinch of sugar on this.

I think I also need to stop equating "pumpkin spice " with “pumpkin”. But you know, when Starbucks gives me the pumpkin spice latte, that actually tastes like pumpkin, one could see how I would have an expectation of other things called “pumpkin spice”. Mais non.

I think booze clouded my judgement originally and rated it higher. I’d drink a 70 but I can’t say I’d drink this. Bump.

adagio breeze

I’m noticing quite a few things called “pumpkin spice” that have no pumpkin component. It’s really annoying – can’t they call it something like “autumn spice” so they don’t get our hopes up for something pumpkiny?

drank Pumpkin Spice by The Tea Haus

My good friend Dexter3657 has sent me some of this and for a couple of weeks I let it sit for I was still thinking “summer” back then. I took it with me to the cottage since the temperature up here cools a little earlier even though it is only two hours north of the city. It seemed the perfect drink to have beside the bonfire but as I sipped it before going outside I realized there was nothing pumpkin spice about this. There was some spice scent to the dry leaf, and almost a sour/acrid note to it, not sure from what. Once steeped I found it a little thin and not at all pumpkin. But it had great potential so I added vanilla creamer and 2 oz of Jack. Booyah, perfect bonfire drink now!

As a tea itself, without additives, it can be passed on without great loss. Sorry.

Thank you dexter, I knew there was a way to bring you with me to the cottage :)

hmmmmm Jack, Jack and I are friends and me and the Captain go way back, but my heart belongs to Evan…

Sorry this isn’t the best pumpkin tea out there, glad you found a way to make it work.

drank Rhubarb Cream by The Tea Haus

Another attempt at this one.

I did get a bit more of the rhubarb flavour, I think this time. I wasn’t getting exactly what I was expecting from this one. I definitely feel like this one tastes more like a plain black tea with the tiniest hint of flavour. I realize now why everyone always mixes rhubarb and strawberry together. I feel like they need each other for sure.

I think I do agree with the other reviewer here though. This one really does fall a bit flat. I wouldn’t get this one again. Sorry…

I have decided to mix this one with my strawberry cream tea from the Tea Haus. I think the flavours together would be better than if I kept this particular one on its own.

Had this one this morning, so doing this by memory.
I was surprised by it, but not in a good way. I feel like I really didn’t get as much of the flavours as I had hoped to have. It wasn’t great…

But also, I may have been distracted as I was officially starting my new job today. It’s fantastic! So that might have been a bit of why I don’t remember much about this tea.

drank Hazelnut Cream by The Tea Haus

Sipdown!

I didn’t have the last bit on its own like I figured I would. I decided to mix it again.
This time I mixed it with s’mores. Again, it’s not too bad. I don’t mind it.

Hazelnut cream is a really good mixing tea I found. I was nervous to try it on its own. I know it would have been good, but I really just thought I’d stick with the mixing.

Personally, I don’t think I’d get this one again, but I could see why others would love it.

Second tea of the morning…. (SRP #36)

I received this one in a swap with the wonderful Tina S.. I was just reading her note, and I kind of have to agree with her that this is a tough read. It really wants to be a very good cinnamony and chocolately black tea, but for some reason, the cinnamon hearts kind of come out as this weird cinnamon taste…maybe kind of artificial? I probably am just spoiled by my favorite cinnamon-in-overdrive tea, though. I do get the notes of chocolate, and the tea base is warm and roasty tasting. I think the chocolate tea on its own would be pretty good. Maybe I will just pick out the cinnamon hearts if there is a next time….. Anyway, thank you for a fun taste of tea from across the boarder! I love to try things I can’t get here!

drank Blueberry by The Tea Haus

I want to like this one. I want to love this one. But I can totally understand where Aisling was coming from when she said she couldn’t really finish her thermos of it. There are blueberry notes, and the black tea is prevalent, but I just felt like the combination wasn’t . . . exactly what I was looking for. I shall have to play.

So…. yeah this one is not for me.
There are aspects of the cup that I enjoyed, but for the most part, I would really rather go without.
When hot, the cup is super dark, sweet and malty- almost like Keemum but richer. As it cools slightly, a sharp bitterness comes out, in the second half of a sip and in the aftertaste… reminding me of that harshness I find in brussel sprouts only loads more intense. I could not get past that aspect no matter how much I sipped and sipped.
The second steep was alot less bitter, but for some reason I couldn’t finish more than a third of the cup. I felt as if each sip was sitting like a lump of tea in my throat. It tasted okay (ish), but it simply would not go down the hatch!
Oh well, you win some you lose some.

Azzrian

Indeed win some lose some as not every tea is for everyone thank goodness there are so many for us to try. Still it is sad when we find one we do not like. I know we so want to love them all. I always wonder “what is wrong with me?” when I don’t like a tea lol rather than “what is wrong with this tea?” haha at least Im not that way with men :)

Indigobloom

ahh I know what you mean Azzrian! I really do, except I know what’s up with me… I am an odd duck with “food sensitivities” haha. Gah I am so glad this happened in adulthood. It would have been terrible as a kid.
oh and I am TOTALLY like that with my men :P

(cuz the pickings have been slim lately, in my town that is)

Tea Haus teas are like Adagio teas for me. I have to steep them below boiling so they don’t get painfully bitter. But with some of the Tea Haus teas, I steeping them at a lower temperature leaves them weak and kinda boring.

This is one such tea. I do get a sweet burnt caramel flavor, but it tastes watered down and weak. Maybe I’ll play with the ratio or something to try and perk it up…and to get rid of more leaf.

Nom. I love this tea, but I’m not going to rate it because I sweetened it with a touch of Irish Creme agave. It’s sweet and creamy and has that touch of toasty caramel I so love. I need to try this one without the agave, though. This might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship, though.

drank Fujieda Sencha by The Tea Haus

This is the first straight sencha that I have almost actually enjoyed.

The scent of the brewed tea was very strong, with definite seaweed aromas and something else that I couldn’t quite place; almost like the roasted, popcorny taste of a genmaicha. The seaweed tapered down into a light vegetal flavour upon drinking, but that mystery flavour was still very present. Still didn’t turn me into a sencha believer.

drank Tea Haus Matcha by The Tea Haus

The second matcha we tried was this one, and I could begin to see how people (like my wife) could enjoy just straight matcha. It was a much smoother, mellow scent. The flavour was still fishy, but it was more like a back hint this time.
