Backlog!
Black Friday was today… Which is no fun for retail workers(aka me). It actually wasn’t too bad. I took this tea to work today because it has a nice chocolate flavor and I wanted something that might help me relax through the rush. It did nicely :]
It’s so hot in my house I can’t even sleep. I bought this one yesterday and figured I’d try it this morning since I’m in desperate need of a caffeine kick. The aroma of the dry leaf is pleasant. Rich notes of dark chocolate. The flavor is pretty nice too. It’s very robust just like it said. It’s earthy, malty, and has rich dark chocolate notes. Very nice.
Sipdown!
This one came to me thanks to QueenOfTarts. So thanks!
When I first tasted this one, I knew it was really really familiar, and then I realized that the Walnut Green at Georgia Tea Co. was pretty much the same thing. Oh well!
But this one has a weird lower layer of fruity sweetness that feels out of place. I call it a lower layer because the sweet seems to start at the bottom of my tongue and then work it’s way up to the top and settle where I would normally expect it to. It’s odd. I’m odd. Whatever.
I still really like base of sencha and the coconut adds a nice creamy feeling. I definitely taste the walnut and nuttiness and it’s well balanced. I’m also finding that most nut teas live kind of a weird feeling in my mouth…waxy but not quite. Either way! Good tea. Just like the other better.
Preparation
She’s a cherry bomb
She’s a bullet in my head
Pull the trigger and I’m dead
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah
I had to listen to Ash’s Cherry Bomb while I drank this. Which was weird because it ended up not being the same song my brain rememebered it as.
Oh well.
Both Shelley_Lorraine and momo gave me samples of this, so I’ll have enough to play with cream and sugar and other odds and ends… so yay! Thanks guys!
The base blend here is actually my favorite part of this (which is good, because it’s the primary flavor too). It’s, well, potent. It’s robust and smooth with that kind of malty yeasty pastryness that is so so good. The chocolate comes as a dust of cocoa powder with some astringency that pops at about the same time. And the cherry is really subtle. It’s not the star, but more of a layer of flavor enhacement. And it doesn’t have any of that medicinal cherry gross that a lot of cherry anything seems to.
I’m excited that I’ll get to play around with this because I’m torn as to whether this would sit in as a dessert tea or just a comfort tea. Either way I could see myself perhaps picking this up at some point.
Preparation
I originally tried this tea before joining Steepster. Since then, my mother has been the only one in possession of any and I forgot whether or not I liked it, so I ordered half an ounce for myself.
I brewed it up this afternoon and decided, on a whim, to check out Sherlock, sitting there in my recommended show list on Netflix. I have seriously no idea at all why I never thought to watch it before. I guess I had this idea that it was going to be a cheesy poor attempt at a Sherlock show (no offense UK, but you do have a penchant for some out-there shows and a strange form of humor. . .ok, so the same could really be said of the US if I think about what is all that is trending here and all that I pretend not to notice. lol).
I loved the Sherlock Holmes movies. Never read any books. I did love detective novels as a kid; the young-adult kind that focus more on the detective stuff and less on the gory creepiness rampant in many of the mature novels. If I didn’t have such an immense dislike for graphic images (even described in words), being a detective would be my dream job. I can’t boast anything near Sherlock-level impressiveness, but I am obnoxiously observant and would rather put it to use rather than annoying the crap out of my family (not in a good way usually; causes lots of stress and arguments.) I’ll just have to make do watching fictional characters live out my dream. sigh
Ok, back to the tea now:
It really is a good tea as far as chocolate blends go. The chocolate doesn’t take over and it doesn’t taste too flat or artificial. Also, it isn’t filmy as Sil mentioned in her own tasting note.
As far as mint blends go, the thin mint (no chocolate, despite the name) is my favorite so far. Even though I like this chocolate mint one fine, i’ll probably be more likely to keep the other in stock regularly.
Wow tea finally added after many many tries, no photo still but hey at least the tea is in here. So i already blogged this so I’m going to copy paste my favorite part of the post here for you guys and a link so ya can see the rest if ya want, Sorry no photo on here BUT you cans ee some on my blog :)

When I tasted the tea this morning it blew me away, it was just awesome good and extremely refreshing, the tastes that I got before of green beans or peas was omg so delicious and it had natural sweetness with a slight “smokey?” hint to it and honestly I still can’t find the words to describe the taste or experience of it because I just don’t know how to put it in words, sorry, I am going to attempt to describe the best I can and maybe somebody knows what I’m talking about, this may sound really weird but when I was young we used to eat corn from the garden straight off of the stalk and munch on raw green beans and other things, the taste of these foods like that was very fresh and delicious to me and I enjoyed it very much WELL for some reason THAT is what comes to mind when drinking this tea cold brewed, I’m NOT saying that this one taste just like eating these things BUT there is “something” about the taste and flavor of this Tea that brings about the memory of eating such tasty things like that straight form the garden. Vegetal?? maybe it was vegetal to me but not like some other green teas.
Got a sample of this with my recent Tea Spot order and I felt in the mood to have some now. I’ve had this one in the past and my mother still has a large tin of it. I don’t know why I didn’t buy any more for myself this time around. Kind of wishing I did now.
I like this blend of peppermint and hojicha so much better than the usual moroccan gunpowder mint blends. The hojicha keeps the peppermint tame without taking over in the way that gunpowder green does.
Preparation
mmm another one from terri’s tea box! I will get through these someday lol! I’m actually pretty proud of myself…i think i’m down to the last 10 or so of the 70+ she sent.
This is a pretty decent green tea. The flavouring is really subtle but it adds to the green instead of overwhelming or taking away from it. I can get behind this one for sure :) thanks terri!
I’m tired of this tea, but i think ive managed to find a way to get through the last of it. Latte style in the morning with a bit of vanilla black :) The chocolatey puerh combined with the vanilla makes for a really nice creamy latte that is highly enjoyable. First cup of the day and a baby step towards drinking up my oldest tea!
i forgot to log this one. I had this much earlier in the day and while it was plesant enough, I think that i’ve outgrown it. It might work better for me with some cacao added to it, but there’s something about the chocolate aspect of this tea that i no longer love as much as i first did. Similar to the chocolate O from the tea spot..my preference for it has waned over time. Dropping the rating since it hasn’t stood the test of time. It’s still a nice blend, but there are others i’d prefer before reaching for this one now.
another one from this morning as i wanted something a little flavoured for the day. I was glad to have this one as well and for some odd reason it went perfectly with my lemon poppyseed loaf this morning :)
someone drank this yesterday and i’m supposed to give someone some of this but i remember nothing of that now. But it was the reason this got pulled out of the cupboard today and it was DEEEEEELICIOUS! so yay for life’s simple happy moments!
Was it OMGsrsly? Because you gave her Chocolate “O”? Or do I have that backwards.
Yeah. This is a great one. <3
that is very much a possibility… today i know nothing….my brain is on hiatus from me..almost said it was on hiatus from my mind… yep. that’s me haha
it MAY have taken me 40 mins to try and figure out which of the teas in my cupboard i made this morning to be my second tea….turns out it was this one lol
I vastly prefer this to chocolate o, which i quite enjoyed at first, but it has since decreased in how much i like it heh this was a great tea for today!
Teeeerrrriiii! I want more! gimme! sipdown… boooooooo! it’s hard to believe that this it’s like a cup of chocolate cocoa. mmmmmm
oh man…i didn’t realise that this had chocolate notes in it when i opted to brew it up. This is another one from terri’s swap with me and i have to say it’s pretty delicious. I don’t taste much puerh to this but that’s not a bad thing. It just means that this falls into the flavoured category more than the straight black :) This is a win in my books!
