Cold brewed TAKE 2:

MUCH BETTER now that I did this correctly in my Steep & Go!

The strawberry comes out much more along with the Rhubarb. The creamy-goodness is still a factor and very nice. I’m going to try this hot in the near future but this is delightful cold brewed the correct way!

I’m just about finished cold brewing this.

Dry – I LOVE the way it smells! Juicy yet Creamy Strawberry and Rhubarb! I love the Strawberry and Rhubarb Combination of flavors with/no/in almost anything!

Cold Brewed this is refreshing yet not overly flavorful. Much like my first attempt I jotted down earlier it makes a great flavored water but I’m missing a lot of that POW from the actual tea.

Again – not bad tasting – just not overly flavorful tea-wise. I will hold off the rate this until I try it hot!

What I can taste – is nice! The Green tea first followed by gentle hints of Strawberry and Rhubarb.

OH!! I took a gulp and can now taste the rhubarb paired with a lovely creaminess! Perhaps this is a chugging Cold Brew??

Looking forward to the HOT version.

For future cold brews with my new Steep & Go I think I am going to jam-pack as much as I can in my stick and do it that way…

I have been drinking this matcha these past two days thanks to The Tea Spot and I must say I am happy I had the chance. I have had several different types and grades of matcha and find this one best suited for homemade matcha latte’s. I simply used heated milk, a little sweetener, and about one teaspoon of matcha. It is such an easy recipe and completely adjustable to your liking. I found it to be very satisfying. The natural sweetness of the matcha came through first and strongest. I also noticed mild vegetal notes. The matcha seems great for making speciality drinks and I’d venture to say even matcha infused ice cream. I would recommend better packaging that would help contain the matcha better. If drinking this in traditional fashion I would consider it a nice starter matcha.

It’s been a busy day so I thought I’d pull this one out. It’s nice and calming. Floral and sweet. I need to make some more time to just sit and enjoy my tea.. not throw it in a tumbler and scuttle everywhere.

Terri HarpLady

Me too! I feel like lately I’m just running back & forth, drinking most of my teas on the go, or while teaching, or while cooking. I need to just sit still & sip! Preferably in my sunroom with all my plants, on a sunny day so that the crystals in my windows are throwing rainbow butterflies everywhere…sigh…yes…I need to do that! I love Meditative Mind, although it’s currently not in my cupboard. I’ll have to get more when I place my next tea spot order.

Backlogging! I had this one earlier today. Honestly, it’s a very relaxing and soothing tea. The white tea is kind of a sweet\fruity base for this one. The sweet white tea compliments the floral notes of the green jasmine pearls and the rose buds. I’m happy I bought a tin of this.

Terri HarpLady

I’ve always enjoyed this one! Currently I’m out, but I’m also out of The Chocolate “O”, so a Tea Spot order is being planned…for fall…sigh…

KallieBoo!

OOoo I don’t think I’ve had Chocolate “O”. They have a ton of Tea Spot teas at the Whole Foods by my house. I find it impossible to not buy at least one tea whenever I go there.

Terri HarpLady

My local whole foods used to carry a bunch of them, but not now.

I woke up slightly grumpy this morning. I went to the kitchen to start the kettle and saw a tin of this staring at me, begging to be made. I grumpily gave in. Once my water was at the correct temperature I opened the tin to find beautiful little rose buds. My mood lightened at the sight of them. But no. I was determined to be grumpy. After about 2 minutes I poured it into my delicate tea pot and then into my little blue cup. The aroma was wonderful and would not give up until I cracked a smile.. the taste.. so light.. so soft.. so florally.. hints of jasmine and rose.. a sweet flavor from the white tea.. this tea was so.. delicious.. I gave in.. this tea instantly made me give up my grumpy mood and let me have a peace of mind feeling. Well.. that and Enchanted by Taylor Swift :] I feel like her music and white teas go together quite well!
TL;DR: This tea is amazing. And so is Taylor Swift.. :D

I smell the leaves: they have a strong aroma of roses…

I taste the plain liquid.

It is dry yet just a hint of sweet prevails! It is also very floral, very rosy.

When I look at the tea in my mug, the liquor is a clear green…

I add sweet.

The sweet brings out the floral flavor of the roses nicely.

I go outside, in burning heat, to watch my little brother skateboard.

Sipping the tea, I think of clouds on this cloudless day…

The tea is still dry.

I have my little brother try some.

“Tastes like sugary water roses.” he says with a matter-of-fact tone as a wide grin spreads across his face.

I smile back.

I suppose he’s right.

This is a nice tea for deep thinking, as the name suggests it is. It makes me think of slow-moving clouds shifting distantly in the sky.

Thank you Bo from the The Tea Spot for this Sample!

My tea sipping today has run from Chai in the morning to a Tippy Assam in the afternoon then an Organic Green in the late afternoon to this Grand Finale Oolong…ta da! A lovely progression from bold to a softer and delicate bouquet.

Oolongs remind me most soft breezes and dappled light…the type that plays with Wysteria and small long stemmed Orchids in the garden, peeking through the leaves and dancing like light when it bounces off water. They are as mysterious as water nymphs.

When I smelled this Oolong dry, I was a little puzzled at the lack of any floral scent. It smelled like green tea. (I know that you can be fooled by the dry scent though!)

I followed the instructions for brewing and chose the longer steep time (4 minutes).
Then I put my nose to the basket…wanting that first glorious scent of wet leaves.
There was a roasted vegital smell, somewhat bitter…and a bit of orchid. The orchid smell was very faint.

(The liquor was pale yellow with a hint of green).

When I tasted the tea, the flavor was slightly floral and juicy, with some astringency on the tongue (which was not unpleasant). There wasn’t any bitterness.
I was a bit surprised at the flavor… which was closer to a Green Tea than an Oolong… and wasn’t complex. This was pretty much a one note tea.
As I thought about it, I believe that this is the lightest Oolong I’ve ever tasted.

I added some sugar (just to see if it would enhance the tea) and the floral taste came alive a bit more…!
There was an Oolong hiding in my cup after all but I had to sweeten the tea to find the flavor!

This is not a tea that I would choose to drink again unfortunately.

drank Coconut Cabana by The Tea Spot
676 tasting notes

Thank you Bo from The Tea Spot for this Sample!

When I tasted this Coconut Oolong I was expecting a ‘taste sensation’! (I am a lover of coconut and to pair the flavor with Oolong is just the best combination!)
When I poured the liquor it was clear and not cloudy like some Milky Oolongs.
There were bits of natural coconut in the brew basket mixed with the dark green tea… and the scent of coconut and flowers was steaming hot from the light yellow liquor in my cup.

The flavor was definately coconut! Good, good, good!

I tasted a little vegital background…ok… and to be expected with an Oolong. The vegital taste was covered well enough by the milky smooth, floral creaminess of the tea.
There was a good deal of astringency biting at my tongue. A tiny sourness too. Hum. It didn’t annoy me really. The flavor was too good for anything to be annoying!

I added sweetening. Come on, of course I added sweetening. This is a tea that cries for elevation to sublime dessertness!

Aha! That was more like it and took that sour/astringent edge almost all the way gone!

Natural coconut makes such a difference in the flavor. It’s much nuttier.
I used to make a Puerto Rican dessert called Love Powder (Polvo de Amor) using very very finely grated fresh coconut (no milk added)which was toasted in a pan with lots of sugar added to it. So good!

That’s the way I like this tea…like the Love Powder! SWEET

Mercuryhime

The tea and your dessert both sound so tasty!

Kittenna

Ooh, another coconutty oolong adding to my list!

drank Climber's High by The Tea Spot
676 tasting notes

Thank you Dhart1214 for this Sample tea!

I just had my first taste of Yerba Mate yesterday from another steepster and liked it. I’m aware that there is a punch of caffeine, so today…I told myself that I’d better be careful and not wait too late to taste and review this Yerba Mate blend or I’d be wired!

One of the things I wish tea companies would do a better job of, is labeling what’s in the blend on the packet of tea. Herbs and flavors might be something that a person is allergic to! I couldn’t drink this blend before going to the Tea Spot website to look up the ingredients. There are 19 listed in this one blend! (Thankfully none I’m allergic to!)

The flavor was tasty…mellow, not too spicy or herby.
If I hadn’t read the ingredients, I would never have known there were 19 flavors present.
I could taste cinnamon, licorice, a bit of ginger, cooling tulsi and yerba mate. The vanilla was almost lost as well as the other flavors. What I tasted was very muted, in a gentle way that was not unpleasent. (I don’t always want a tea to knock me down with strong flavor.)
This was an appealing high caffeine comfort tea.

I could picture this tea in a pouch added to a backpack stash for a hiking trip. A morning tea before skiing or biking. A tea to begin the day at the office or school. No milk is needed and the tea is sweet enough not to add anything to it. (I did add sweetening…I like my tea that way).

Energy! Caffeine! Mellow flavor and tastes pretty good.

edit After having an allergic reaction to some beans, my sister-in-law sent me a list of foods in the bean family which includes licorice! Guess what? Licorice is also an ingredient in this tea!

Yes, I drank my bean toxic tea too. Lesson for tea companies would be that it’s important to label ingredients please. In the future, I don’ t want to be this violently ill from unlabeled tea!
I had to look on the website for ingredient information before knowing about the licorice so the fact that I drank the tea is not the fault of The Tea Spot.

Bonnie

Note added about labeling of ingredients and food allergies. Turns out this tea was a no no and I want to make a point that tea companies need to label with ingredients. This one had 19!

Indigobloom

wow that is not good, 19 ingredients! I’ll bet with that quantiy… there are some most anybody would react to in some way.

Indigobloom

ashmanra

I know that problem! Hubby gets migraines if his food has MSG. The trouble is that they label it autolized yeast extract and all manner of other things. I had to pull up a list online and memorize it, and I am finding those things even in organic soups at the grocery.

Hesper June

I absolutely love the taste of Mate teas, however something in them makes me actually quite ill.
I have not figured out what though.
Makes me sad:(

drank Meditative Mind by The Tea Spot
676 tasting notes

Thank you Bo at the Tea Spot for this Sample Tea

One of the first tea’s I loved was a Rose tea. It surprised me that I didn’t gag like I was drinking perfume…. even though it smelled like cologne.
I never liked the Bottled Rose Syrup my Nephew David slathered on pancakes or favored in Baklava (a taste he came to love on Cyprus where he was born).
Tea was different somehow. The flavor was always sweet but more like soft floral honey.

When I opened this tea packet from The Tea Spot the whole top half was pretty packed with pretty Rose Buds.
I dug around looking for the Jasmine tea strands to gather bits for a good cup to brew. It was hard to control the amount considering the size of the flowers and white leaves so I used a large mug and finum basket with a little more leaf and water.
The temperature is suggested 176F for 2-4 minutes. (I would go for the full 4 minutes!)

The flavor was a good balance of Jasmine and Rose. Very floral and not very astringent at all, (I think that’s what other reviews referred to as harshness).
To get the most out of the beautiful floral flavor I would add sweetening. There’s no way I would drink this without sweetness to make the flowers nectar. Even honey would be an acceptable addition, especially a very mild wildflower honey.

A calming tea that is exactly as the name implies…good for quiet time and relaxation.

drank Earl of Grey by The Tea Spot
676 tasting notes

Thank you Bo at The Tea Spot for this Sample Tea!

Breakfast 32oz pot of tea for my Saturday morning!

Hard to believe it but out of my huge cupboard full of tea…I only 1 Earl Grey Tea! This tea presented a perfect opportunity to expand my Earl Grey experience.

Lets just jump right to the taste…

This tea tastes like lemon cream pudding! Creamy slightly vanilla lemon milky creamy pudding!
I kid you not! Really it does. I can taste the bergamot in the tea in a non-overwhelming way but I am so in love with the creamy pudding that who cares about the bergamot!
There is supposed to be licorice in this blend too. Oh really? Wherever it is must be taking the bite off the bergamot…you know the usual tang or bite that can make it a bit harsh. Well that’s not happening here. The licorice is not a distinct flavor but mellows out the bergamot.

I really like this tea! The lemon pudding took me off guard! I want this in my cupboard forever!

Gotta go…drinking…wanting more and more….so good….

K S

Oh my goodness this sounds amazing. 32oz pot huh, Ummm, I’ll be right over to help you drink it. You can show me main street USA afterwards and I’ll buy you a cup in Walt’s office. lol. Don’t I wish.

Bonnie

It’s true! There’s still the firepole inside the teahouse. Next door is a book shop in what was the other part of the firehouse (you can walk through from tea shop to book store)so you can see the whole thing clearly. There’s an apartment upstairs just like Walts office. What a hoot. I’ve been all over the U.S. and this is a cool place.

drank Boulder Blues by The Tea Spot
676 tasting notes

Thank you DHart1215 for this Sample!

My daughter and grandchildren came over this evening to cool off in my pool (a plan I had when I moved in to my condo to ensure more family visits!). The teens watched the younger boys while my daughter Annalisa and I had time alone to chat and drink tea.

I was careful not to steep the tea too long. An earlier test had gone wrong and produced a bitter brew at 3.5 minutes. An adjustment to 2 minutes was just right.

Taste:
The scent and flavor is fruity and sweet but light. I didn’t taste any rhubarb which would have been warm, almost peachy and a little sour (rhubarb is hard to discribe). Even the strawberry was not very berry.
I’m not saying that the tea lacked fruitiness…there is strawberry and it tastes nice but it’s light.

Adding sweetening helps intensify the strawberry flavor.

When the tea cooled, the flavor changed. There was astringency from the green tea (which was not a bother), and a sour note that was what I would expect from rhubarb. With the strawberry flavor, this was better tasting cold than it was hot.

Some like it hot. I like it cold!

Chocolate Tea #2 on my Chocolate Tea Day!

So, this is one that I really liked when I sipped it before.
How does it compare to the Spice and Tea Exchange Dark Chocolate Tea that I had for breakfast? It’s not a bitter sweet chocolate taste or as thick tasting, but it definitely tastes like one of my favorite candies of all time…(drum roll)

MALT BALLS!

Ooooooooohhhhhh!
I love to eat Malt Ball candies at the movies. I mean, they are the best yummy cocoa sweeties to eat slowly while watching all the action taking place on the big screen. (I know you can taste them)

Anyway, this is the best tea I’ve had from The Tea Spot! (I did put cream in my cup and sweetened the brew!)

Thank you Bo from the Tea Spot for this generous Sample!

Morning Tea! It’s a beautiful morning on the Frontrange!

What is the Frontrange?
At 5000 ft. there is a point where the high plains meet the mountains running the length of Colorado. All along that point resides most of the population of the State. The views are stunning! I’ve seen antelope in the neighboring fields, fox and bald eagles.

Boulder where the Tea Spot is located, was voted the town with the happiest people in the United States. It might be because the people have been drinking this tea.
As tea lover, I’d stop in at the Tea Spot and pick up this tea to go, then stroll over to the Pearl Street Mall and walk until I found the perfect place to people watch in the shade. The Mall is open-air and closed to cars…filled with fountains, flowers, people walking their pooches and musicians from the Colorado Music Festival.
You can visit tea house after tea house, spice shops, boutiques and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. This is a tea friendly town!

Review:
I made a whole 32oz morning pot of “O” using 1TB leaves and steeped
3 minutes. The liquor was a medium honey brown.

First I took a sip without any additions and was relieved that there was no artificial chocolate flavor or sourness. Hooray!

You could easily enjoy this tea as it is without additions. I found so much more enjoyment with sweetening, cream or both added.

When I added a little sweetening the chocolate flavor began to wake up.
Um…“How about that”?! I wasn’t expecting such a change.

Then I added some cream.
“Well?!, Where have you been all my life my sweet sexy, smooth chocolate bonbon”?!
(I did say the “S” word which with the “O” makes “SO” as in “SO” good!)

The sweetened chocolate creaminess reminds me of Italian Chocolate Hazelnut Seashells that I used to eat at Christmas.
Marbled and precious…better than Nutella…way better. More chocolatey.

Ok Bo….this is a great tasting tea!

http://youtu.be/kccxXCGn9n8 A little Frontrange Slide Show….Come and visit….these scenes for you photographers, at Rocky Mt. National Park are about 1hr from me although the Mountains are right outside my door and just as grand.

If anyone has a bunch of Tea Spot Teas in their stash and would be willing to swap – let me know!

It’s been a while since I have had a good coconut oolong!

This smells very nice! Crisp oolong, clean, sweet-coconut, milky and creamy!

Now for the taste…

The flavor is pretty involved! It’s coconut and nutty – much like an almond joy (minus the chocolate, that is). It has a slightly-sour milky taste…a lot like coconut milk in a can! This does taste fruitier than I expected but I really can’t put my finger on what type of fruit flavor I am picking up, specifically, other than the coconut notes, of course.

This is pretty fantastic! The more I drink the more I am loving it!

Bonnie

I do but I just got -um. You’d have to wait till I finish but they’d be fresh.

TeaEqualsBliss

:) Bonnie – I’m setting up my swaps for next month and the month after that, too! If you ever want to – let me know :) No rush tho!!! :) teahee

drank Yunnan Black Tea by The Tea Spot
676 tasting notes

Thank you to Bo from the Tea Spot for this big Sample tea!

I’ve lived in Colorado for almost two happy years now. Colorado is also the place where TEA discovered ME. What a loving tea romance that has grown into an everlasting love.
One of the charming things about my State are the many tea houses and tea companies located primarily around Boulder (about 45 minutes from me). And a tea festival at the Dushanbe http://boulderteahouse.com

One place I have yet to visit is The Tea Spot.
Today I recieved some samples from Bo which I am excited to try.
I would normally drink a Yunnan Black Tea in the morning, but by 6PM I was falling asleep on the couch. That would never do! Too early to fall asleep. The green-eyed logo on the package beckoned me…“pick me”! (That was a previous joke from a morning when I had a hard time waking up..but somewhat true again.)

I followed the packet instructions to use boiling water and steep 3-5 minutes. I decided on 4 minutes because I like a hefty cup of tea.
I made a 16oz pot using 2 tsp leaf.

OH NO! NO! The tea was WAY TOO STRONG!
I took a big sip and WOW! The liquor was very strong and bitter like I had soaked some tobacco leaves in with the tea and threw in a bag of cinders. No chocolate or malt. BLEH, MEH!

Something was wrong. I put the blame on myself, threw out the tea and began again. (I could do this, I read.. The Little Engine that Could!)

(Bo, don’t gasp in horror… trust me!)

I began again with only 1 tsp leaf, boiling water and 2.5 minutes on the steep time. The liquor was a nice red brown and much, much milder!
The wet leaves smelled bready and smoky.

You must not oversteep this tea!

The taste was a little malty and not very chocolatey. I say again, that there was really not a cocoa flavor in the tea that I could pick out at all.
This was a very, very smoky tea with tannin that splayed all over the tongue creating a prickly, peppery feel. I tasted a bit of potato like kettle chips.
I tried adding some sweetening and cream which worked well.

So, I wasn’t very impressed with this black tea. It lacked depth and smoothness. The smoke was too powerful. Something was too raw and untamed.

I am however, looking forward to more tastings and appreciate the opportunity to try this tea.

Backlog:

This is a fantastic Breakfast Blend. Very bold, robust, and hearty. It has a lovely strength about it, and lots of depth. Really, really good. It tastes of malt and hints of a deep, rich chocolate-y flavor, freshly baked bread (the caramelized, chewy crust!), slightly earthy tones, oak-y/deep woodsy background.

Really, this one of the best breakfast blends I’ve had that wasn’t called “LiberTEAS Breakfast Blend.”

Red rocks and Missy rocks!! Thank you so much for the sample.
This is my first red Rooibos and I think I kinda like it. It threw me off at first because it is actually almost salty. I will have to try it again though,  because I had been eating salty chips prior to drinking the tea. I could have cross contaminated. Haha. But after half cup in,  I really enjoyed it. Creamy and a little sweet but not overpowering, this red blend changes my mind about a previous statement in which I had said I don’t like Rooibos.
Thank you again Missy.

Thank you DHart1214 for this Sample tea!

Um breakfast tea! I love my breakfast tea!

Not being a morning person ever in my life, I need help crawling out of my beloved bed. I begin by inching towards the light at the far end of a foreboading tunnel.
My dear father ‘Bill’ used to throw open my bedroom door and do his best WWII bugle call “Time to get up Bonnie”! This would elicit evil words from my innocent mouth that I could never remember when fully awake, but were surely worthy of going to confession. Mom (Pat) would ‘rush’ (poor darling had painful rheumatoid arthritis from age 35) down the hall, “Bill, you know how she is…you can’t wake her up like that!” But dad never learned. He didn’t know that it was painful to be startled awake. I TAKE TIME! (Sure do miss them now and they sure loved each other!)

My morning tea gives me time to pull off those remaining shadowy cobwebs.

The Tea Spot packaging was perfect for a non-morning person. It looked like a big green eye on a white package screaming “Pick Me!”…so I did…since I could see it above all others.
There was a word I could make out…Breakfast…ok. I’m obedient. And a phrase…“boost your mojo!”
Mojo? Where did I put my Mojo? (I think I left it somewhere next to “I’m sexy and I know it!”)

I used a clean Finum filter and steeped this tea 4 minutes.
The scent was light, sweet and fragrant along the line of an Orange Pekoe.

I took a sip and the blend was quite mild without much smoke but having a bit of fruit, a hint of tannin (hardly any really) and medium body. Later I could feel the mojo…as though the caffeine was revving an engine in the background ready to varoom…race ahead through my day.

What black tea was used for this blend? Assam, pekoe, ceylon for sure…what else? Still…I would have thought with so much black tea variety (4 black tea’s are in this blend) there would be more smoke or fruit. Peach, yam, orange pekoe…something deeper.
The caffeine part would be good for someone who likes a kick in the backside like me though. I keep a few high voltage tea’s around for migraine control.

This was a good mid-range morning tea.

Spoonvonstup

My Dad did exactly the same thing to me when I was little.. to the same effect!

ashmanra

My dad went to a similar school of “how to wake your kids.” He pounded on my door and shouted TIME TO GET UP! In his deep voice. I mastered the art of chirping happily, “Okay! I’m awake!” as if I had been up for hours. I can still do it to this day. If the phone rings and wakes me, no one has any idea I was sleeping! LOL! I bet my heart is really strong, too….

Spoonvonstup

I think my Dad loved doing it because a) he grew up on an army base and b) he loves being a jokester. Apparently nothing is more funny in the morning than rousing your kids with a jolly: “It’s time to get up.. it’s time to get up.. it’s time to get up in the moor-niiing..”

Bonnie

Mom, "Bill, Bill…stop it…she doesn’t know what she’s saying…! Bill, “Well that’s no excuse! She should know!” “But Bill, she’s still asleep!”….sputter, walks down the hall towards the kitchen but not defeated. Tomorrow the bugle call will be louder.

K S

I wonder if your response actually made him chuckle a bit to himself, encouraging to go at it again the next day.

Bonnie

Probably! But he got mad! He used to cross his leg under the dinner table and kick me every night too! "Dad! " Reminded me of a bratty boy who was not giving up his childhood without a fight! (Afterall I was a feisty 5’9" 5th grader…hardly delicate!)
In every other way we were always fine.

K S

I still have both my parents, they are in their 80s. I don’t have any great stories similar to yours except my day would throw the circuit breaker to my room when he had had enough Black Sabbath for one day. I am not sure how that is possible. He seemed to have a very low tolerance for metal at 110db.

Bonnie

KS Sooooo funny! I’m cracking up laughing! I needed that laugh too! This has been good to hear peoples memories.

The Tea Spot

Hi Bonnie, just wanted to clarify that this tea IS still available on our website! Glad you found it suitable for a morning cup—and I love the comment about the “green eye” logo on the bag. I’ll have to share that with the office!

Missy

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. Yeah!

Indigobloom

My Dad woke me up singing this song, well the first part anyhow. Starts around 30s. http://youtu.be/8w9xk4hUKoQ
Trouble is, he still did that well into my teens!!! ha!

Bonnie

Oh Indigo! I love that your dad channeled Mr. Rogers! I would have begged for a sleep over at your house!

Indigobloom

LOL it was fun when I was a kid… but by the time I told anybody it was out of embarrassment not fun! haha
Still, it’s a fond memory, and you’d have been welcome anytime!! :)

Kittenna

Hahaha, usually it was my mom that woke me up (which took multiple tries), but on the days when my mom wasn’t around, I got a sharp rap on my door and an annoyed-sounding “It’s time to get up!”. It always started me awake so badly that it typically worked (or was it the fear??)

WOW! This blend has a whole lot going on, but, somehow the immense combination of ingredients works together. It is hard to pin-point any one particular ingredient in this blend – but at the same time, I can’t imagine that this would taste quite the same without the blend the way it is.

I taste vegetative earthiness that I associate with the Yerba Maté as well as the Pu-erh, I taste the rich background that I would associate with black tea, but at the same time, I taste a light airy/sweet/creamy kind of taste and texture that I associate with the presence of white and green teas.

And the melangé of spices are quite nice, giving this an almost chai-like taste that is warm, cinnamon-y and peppery. I am loving the notes of licorice here, as well as the subtle hint of mint.

Yes, there is a lot going on, but, I really like this. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say it’s a favorite of mine, but, it isn’t something I’d turn down, and if I were to go to a tea bar, and saw this on the menu and I was in need of a big caffeine boost, I’d definitely order it.

After a six-hour car ride, I’m finally in Boston to visit some family. They had a few teas in the house, most of which weren’t loose leaf, but this is one of the ones that was and I thought it sounded like a nice calming tea after a stressful day and it certainly was. I’m turning to white teas for moments of calm more and more recently, and this blend was very good for that purpose. The subtle flavor of the white peony blends perfectly with the light floral notes of the jasmine pearls and rosebuds (of which there is just the right amount to make it a light floral accent rather than an overpowering aroma). Very nice. I’ll have to see what kinds of tea shops I can find around Boston.

If you’re in the Harvard Square area, definitely check out Tealuxe. It’s a little tea cafe, and they sell the leaf as well. I really like their Harvard Square Earl Grey, the Golden Monkey and their Dragonwell. (Also if you’re in Harvard Square, check out Sweet – a fantastic cupcake bakery).

There’s also Virtuous Teas in Newton, which is a really cute store. They’ve got lots of vintage teacups. It’s really nice how they sell blending ingredients as well as teas – their Tropical Oolong and White Peony are great.

Enjoy Boston!

Thank you so much for the information. I’ll try to check them both out. :) I believe the place I’m in now is called Needham.

Depending where you are in Needham, I think Newton’s about 20 minutes. Not sure about HS :)

The Tea Spot

Thanks for the lovely review, Kyle! Calm is what this tea is all about. :)

2nd infusion…less Cherry but more of a roasted chocolate! Still super tasty! See previous notes :)

This smells like Cherry Garcia Ice Cream from Ben & Jerry’s!

This is truly amazing! The flavor makes me melt! The Chocolate is sugar-sweet yet creamy and complimenting. The Cherry is juicy but isn’t loud or tart…it goes perfectly with the chocolate. Everything goes really well with the heavy black tea base! The levels of flavor for all of the ingredients are just perfect! JUST PERFECT, I tell you! The black tea base has a hint of cookie…that type of bready-chewiness to it.

I cannot express how much I am loving this. I’m saving enough for 1 or 2 more tries but am sending the rest to my awesome Sororitea Sister LiberTEAs!!!

I was going to give this a 98 but…I think I have to push it to 100. It’s very rare if I push the 100 mark, but I can’t get over this one! A true comfort tea for this crazy day! YUM!
