Tea #42 from the Here’s Hoping TTB
This is one of the teas that I pulled from the TTB to enjoy over the weekend, but I didn’t end up getting to it until Monday when I spent nearly 12 hours at the hospital. I had packed several travel mugs of this and I’m not regretting that decision one bit. It ended up being a much longer day than I expected and it was nice to have the comfort of hot tea while I was there. Now if only I had remembered to pack some snacks… but at least I had tea.
I wish I had been able to drink the steepings individually and taste the differences, but even all mixed together they were wonderful. In fact, this could quite possibly be my favorite milk oolong so far. It was rather mild flavored and the subtle creaminess wasn’t as pronounced as others I’ve had in the past (which is possibly due to me mixing several steepings together), but the flavor reminded me of peaches and cream. I think this would make the perfect summertime tea and I’m seriously considering picking some up, even though Im currently drowning in tea.
Preparation
Nice morning tea… Well, it’s way past noon, but it is morning for me! I am already mentally planning my weekend off with tea, and this darjeeling sure helps me to focus. I am also trying to resist various free shipping offers on various tea selling websites. And yes, this tea helps me to withstand the temptation. Somehow.
Preparation
One of the days will be devoted to trying out new teas (I have so many I haven’t even tried yet… and there’s more on the way :/) and the other one will be more like a sipdown day :)
I am enjoying a cup (mug!) of it this nice, late morning. I am relatively fresh to different kinds of black tea and differentiating between them but I think Darjeeling could be my favorite so far. Flowery, pleasantly astringent, a bit earthy too… My cat looks at me like she’s jealous of this tea. And she should be!
Preparation
This is a lychee tea that falls more into the floral than the juicy category. But only initially.
At first, the taste is floral (but not soapy or heavily perfumed), but in a delicate way. It’s almost like a scented blossom tea, with a lot of flavor packed into a delicate pretty little thing. The sip then ends on an almost explosively juicy note and lingers that way.
As the tea cools, the juicy lychee notes creep further and further forward in the sip and the floral becomes the secondary aspect. I would imagine this would do excellently iced, as a result.
This one can get a little bitter if the temp is too high, so best watch that.
I’m really, really sad thepuriTea is going out of business.
Preparation
Got this on sale thought it would be malty but not that much, maybe my brewing technique. Tried 3 balls in giwan then tried 8 much better not great.
Tried this with 8 balls in 8oz mug boiling water 3 min getting better not great. Balls open up to pieces, stems and some whole leaf probably not hand picked like some other less expensive black teas Ive had.
OK 10 balls 8oz boiling water for 5 min much better slight malty. Probably wouldn’t buy this one again but I’m enjoying it better.
Preparation
I think it is one of these ‘lap of luxury’ teas for me. I absolutely love it. It is like jasmine scent infused dark chocolate. At the same time very refreshing. And yunnan teas’ dry leaves always look so beautiful! Too bad thePuriTea store is closing (I got this at their goodbye sale) but perhaps I will be able to find something similar elsewhere.
The scent of this tea is very complex! I’m getting salt water, grass and flowers. It reminds me very much of a Japanese green tea. After it’s finished steeping, there is a strong floral note (orchid perhaps?) mixed with something buttery.
Sipping… this is a nice and smooth oolong. Flower and butter notes with a bit of mineral in the background. I also detect something like salt water, but it quickly disappears. It actually adds a bit of a sharpness to the sip. A lovely sweetness helps to round out the cup and it’s the last thing that lingers on the tongue. This is a very nice tea and would make a nice addition to a dessert.
Tea #21 from the Here’s Hoping TTB
Why haven’t I been drinking this tea all along? It’s a combination of Yunnan Golden Buds and Jasmine, both of which top the list of my favorite things, I’ve just never tried them together before. This was also my first tea from the thepuriTea and wouldn’t you know, they’re having a going out of business sale right now. Go figure I would discover the company just days after I read about them closing soon.
I really like this combination a lot. The dark chocolate notes from the Yunnan base pair surprisingly well with the jasmine. Normally when I’ve had a jasmine tea it has been paired with a green base, but I think I may enjoy this even more. If I weren’t completely broke right (and swimming in tea from Black Friday) I would order some of this while I could. As it stands I’ll have to settle for pulling it from the box, so this tea won’t be continuing on.
