Blah, I’m on my way to the Rocky Mountains for an awesome little vacation and I’m getting sick, so I need some tea. The closest tea is Tim Hortons. I immediately opted for this one when I saw it, and I’m glad I did. It’s actually much better than I expected. Its wonderful spicy aroma filled up the hotel room and it leaves a pleasant burn in my throat. I can taste a little bit of liquorice in it but I like it here.

I totally lost Roll Up the Rim though. No free stuff for me.

Ok, so I bought this & a bagel to kill time while I was waiting for a store to open this morning. Bought myself a new bathing suit, for my birthday pool party! woooooooo

I got a large, 2 bags in. I let it steep for a couple of minutes. All I got was artificial blueberry taste. UGH ok Tim Horton’s, you are a Canadian company, you should know good blueberry. BLECH!
I ended up tossing the cup.

The water temp scale cannot go high enough for how hot this stupid crap was!

So this was my first tea as a married woman – we have been so busy with wedding preparation, setup, enjoyment, take down and aftermath that this may be the only tea I have had in a week. I love mint so it really hit the spot, and it was thoughtful that my mother-in-law made it for me. We have been together for nine years so nothing really changed but it was amazing to get together with our best friends and family to celebrate. It was a true Nova Scotia kitchen party – we are thinking of having a celebration every year in the same style. Happy tea!

When I’m drinking this, usually it means that I’m at an airport or a hospital. This time around, it was the latter. I tried it with one cream and one sugar, as opposed to the usual double-double, and it wasn’t as enjoyable. It was noticeably thinner. Interestingly, my mom also ordered her dark roast with one cream and one sugar, which we also normally order as a double-double, and we made similar observations with the coffee. It definitely tasted more like some plain, boring coffee you brew at home with only a bit of milk added. I guess I can conclude that I love TH double-doubles for, well, the tea/coffee-to-cream-and-sugar ratios a lot more so than the tea/coffee itself.

On another note, the apartment staff was serving St. Patty’s mini cupcakes in the lounge today and my mom and I tried one each when we got back. They were advertised as Bailey’s vanilla and Guinness chocolate. Sound promising, right? I think they lied. Seriously. They just tasted like ordinary, mass-produced vanilla and chocolate cupcakes. They were moist but the flavour was very disappointing. To top it off, we overheard one of the staff members telling someone that the green icing in the Guinness chocolate one was green because it had tea in it. Umm, a) it was bright emerald green which matcha itself simply cannot make and b) no tea flavour, just chemical, probably from the obvious green food colouring. I mean, it was a nice gesture doling these out but damn, so not worth the calories.

“It’s been Roll Up the Rim for how long already and I still haven’t done so?” That was my thought when I passed a TH yesterday, so I grabbed a steeped tea double double.

What’s truly sad is I picked it up on the way home from walking around downtown trying to book a hostel for a couple nights next week. By the time I got home with this, it was lukewarm. I realized the receptionist at the hostel I went with didn’t give my ID back, so I quickly chugged this in less than five minutes and went back out the door. So it ended up being a huge waste of time, getting a tea that I ended up having to down really fast AND losing Roll Up the Rim. AAAAAAAND I also got blisters on my feet from doing a ton more walking in my boots than anticipated. Had I known I would have worn something comfier.

Thanks Tim Hortons!

Maddy Barone

Crap! I hate it when days go like that.

Fjellrev

You just never see them coming. :)

M

Ugh, that sucks. I find Tim Hortons tea disappointing even on the best of days.

Steeped tea double double this foggy morn. So much better than coffee this early in the morning. Creamy and sweet.

I’ll admit that I’m more excited about the Bagel BELT. Always a treat!

I had this two mornings in a row, as a double-double. Still not bad, but as usual, it’s the cream that saves it, and covers up the cardboard flavour from the tea.

Lala

I had one of these this morning too! I normally get it black but I decided to get some milk in it to cool it down a bit because it is so darn hot. Not my fav with milk.

Sil

you know what’s better than this tea? tea from me…which requires your address giggling

I had a double-double (two creams, two sugars) very early at the hospital this morning and it’s really not that bad. I do find though that it can sometimes taste like cardboard. I always thought it was the paper cup but you never know.

Maybe it was because I was super tired or fighting with an uncomfortably dry contact lens, but this time it was considerably less cardboard-y. Actually, none to be had.

It’s a standard mass-produced Red Rose-like black tea. Maybe I like it because of the cream? I never ask for cream anywhere else nor do I ever have it at home, and come to think of it, I enjoy TH’s coffee as a double-double.

I’ll be a little kinder with the rating.

TeaLady441

I like this one too, but I also think it’s the “Double-Double” aspect that makes it so tasty. I don’t put cream/sugar in any of my other teas, so I’m basically just ordering/drinking that.

And I don’t regret it.

Fjellrev

I would still like to try it to stay sometime, in a mug, to see if it makes a difference. Does it ever taste like cardboard to you?

CHAroma

Cream and sugar makes everything taste better. :)

TeaLady441

I’ve never noticed the cardboard taste, but maybe I’m too distracted by all that sugar.

I had this the other day when I was staying overnight on campus. You get a free pastry and drink for breakfast at TH so I opted for this. Peppermint is pretty much peppermint. Sure, it doesn’t have the POW that some peppermint has but nevertheless, it’s a decent herbal. It’s a hard flavour to screw up so it’s a good choice if you’re unsure of their other flavours.

Hmm, Didn’t win anything at Timmy’s this evening but this herbal wasn’t bad at all.

I couldn’t help but think of my Cocomint, from David’s Tea, the whole time I was sipping away at this. It’s a mild breath of fresh air so it passes as a minty thing. This was a little creamy too, like it had a touch of vanilla. Maybe a little candied.

Feeling supremely lazy this morning so I grabbed one these on my way to work.
Also, I need to buy a new kettle for at work because the one my boss bought is one of those one side coffee, one side hot water jobbies and it makes every cup taste like hot plastic.
Not that a cup os steeped tea tastes much better. Now everyone yell at me so I’ll stop!

tattooed_tea

I did the same last week. Except maybe worse, I got it with 2 bags in. YUCK!

Michelle Butler Hallett

I’ve gotten this a few times, when desperate. I’d rather go without. Their bagged English Breakfast is better.

BoxerMama

I bought a new kettle at work. . . then realize it’s the water that tastes funny.

I left my favourite timolino at work the other day and needed a tea fix on the way. I used to drink this ALL the time, might as well have just hooked me up to an IV. However, this time around all I tasted was hot paper. I finished it, only because I told myself it was all in my head. People at work laughed at me when I told them I had one, they didn’t believe me.

Fjellrev

I know what you mean by hot paper! I always described it as cardboard. I can’t tell if it’s the tea or the paper cup that I’m tasting. Not exactly the healthiest, but I find it’s not as bad as a double double. But even then, yeah, cardboard. I wonder what it would taste like if you ordered it to stay in a mug.

BoxerMama

I’m not sure. . . I’ve never had this problem with TAZO at starbucks, or a to go cup at DT. I think it’s just a low quality tea. It’d be interesting to try it out though!

Terri HarpLady

they say you can never go back…

BoxerMama

HAHAHAHA! It’s true! I got to work and made Laoshan Black.

Terri HarpLady

That’s what I’m saying! :D

Just say NO to Tim horton’s please…..

BoxerMama

Oh, I will! I hadn’t had one since joining steepster in August!

Indigobloom

(though I have caved in on occasion lol)

Alyssa

I totally feel you on the hot cardboard taste. Does anyone know if it’s the cup, or if it’s just bland and tasteless in general?

drank Blueberry White by Tim Hortons

This may very well be the only time you’ll ever see me review a bagged commercial tea. My real life friend for a decade up in Ontario sent me a big ol’ package of teas after she found out I went tea crazy. Unfortunately, I must not have relayed to her I’m a loose leaf guy because I ended up with half a dozen varieties of tea bags of different flavors /sigh

Thus, here I sit feeling obligated to TRY at least one of them once before I give this all away…..so here goes.

I’ve never tasted something so tart yet washed out at the same time. It’s like they are TRYING to pack some flavor punch in it but it’s so shallow it makes me want to laugh. And the worst part is it doesn’t even remotely taste like blueberries! It’s more of a tangy raspberry clone or something.

In honor of the $10 shipping she paid to get all this too me, I’m forcing myself to drink it all….but I am not happy about it >.<

So I was at a comedy show last week and the comedian had a bit about Tim Horton’s and how he was explaining to a non Canadian who Tim Horton was. The story was he convinced this non-Canadian that Tim Horton was the first and greatest president of Canada and to honor him we open a coffee and donut shop in every community in Canada.

So for anyone that doesn’t know, Tim Horton may have been a great man (or not so great depending on who you ask) but he was never premier nor president of Canada. ha ha. Go Hockey!

So I am having a steeped tea because I have a roomie staying with me. I get up at 5 am to get ready for work and try not to make much noise in the morning. I ended up leaving the house super early so stopped at Timmies to get my usual go to. I still ended up being at work a half hour early. It is not too bad this morning. Not as smooth as usual. Must have been the end of the pot. It is still thick and a strong. I think it is a Ceylon base but who knows. Tim is not giving up his secrets.

Anna

You Canadians. Such weirdos.

keychange

Love this tea as well!

Lala

Anna- ha ha. And I agree :)

K S

All I could think while reading this was Dr Suess (as in Horton hears a who). The hockey reference shocked me back into reality. Now I want a doughnut.

It’s been just one of those days. Woke up late, broke two glasses (one of which contained milk and got all over my breakfast of toast). So had to go to work with no breakfast and bad Canadian winter roads; took an extra half hour to get to work.

As I’m feeling sorry for myself, my awesome co-worker brings me in my usual order from Tim Hortons: a steeped tea. I am forever indebted!

While it is not the most delicious tea it still somehow manages to hit the right spot every time. It is dark, almost looks like black coffee, the orange pekoe flavour is strong, but not bitter, it feels heavy and it leaves a creamy after taste.

My day is now back on track, and thanks to this tea(and my co-worker), this day looks like it will be pretty good after all.

I’m a very picky mint person. 1. I rarely like to use it and 2. if its at all bitter I will hate it.

This tea is one of those, DO NOT STEEP TO LONG teas. I found after 4 mins it was bitter and nothing would change that. Not a huge fan.

I wouldn’t mind trying it at a lower steep time to see if I liked it a little better in the future.

I found this to be a rather BLAH tea when it comes to an Earl Grey. It lacked body and taste unless you add some sugar and milk. I don’t drink it at all anymore but when I did I found that adding sugar and milk (2&2) made it smell and some what taste like fruitloops.

This tea is a great make me feel better tea.

When ever I have a cold I’ll make a pot, add REAL honey into it and enjoy. It always makes me feel better, maybe not physically but mentally. ;)

You do get a sick lemon flavour if you make it with sugar and by sick lemon I mean a lemon cough drop. Yuck

When I stopped drinking coffee my husband was heart broken because he had no idea what to get me when he went on a “timmy’s run”. I told him a XL Steep Tea would be just fine.

I have to say, I was rather disappointed the first time. Back when I first tried it I was a black tea drinker for all teas. This tea is not one I would ever suggest drinking black. It was way to bitter.

The second time around I asked for 2 milk and 2 sugar, this result was much better and has remained the way I drink it.

All in all the hype they made on TV was sadly over rated. Its an okay tea but its nothing special.

So I’m back in school, and finally have regular access to some sort of computer again. Albeit not mine, which is just not the same thing. Particularly since I can’t access my iTunes…

Still, back in school! I managed to snag a locker someone forfeited from last semester – whoop, you just feel like tourist in school until you get a locker. This is also mighty important when you’re Canadian and need a place to stash all your winter gear – heavy coats on top of books are not fun to cart around a uni campus. And I needed a place to put my tea so I wasn’t hauling bags of leaves around in my bag all the time! So yeah, I got a locker and gleefully stashed my coat in it and went to my second class.

Which was naturally interrupted by one of the school’s normally-rare fire alarms. So I spent most of that class outside with no coat, and getting my Chucks wet in the snow I would otherwise avoid. What can you do.

My school has installed these clean, cold water dispenser things by all the water fountains, so people can easily fill up water bottles! So cool! They don’t dispense hot water, unfortunately, so I still have to trek to a coffee shop/food establishment for that. Still, guess I could try out the shaken bottle of matcha method. People do do that with cold water, right?

Anyway, I ran through a couple of my teas today, but I got a little sick of tasting their flavour being ruined by being brewed in cardboard cups. (I need to remember to bring empty travel mugs that I can brew in!) So I threw up my hands and said, cheap bagged it is so that I don’t keep wasting my stuff. And I went to Timmie’s and got this.

Maybe my standards are low at the end of the day, maybe they added too much sugar (no, I know they did), but this isn’t that bad. I haven’t had a plain EG in forever – what should it taste like? This reminds me more of black licorice than anything citrus. The base could be stronger. It’s not good. But it’s pretty pleasant nevertheless. I could stand to have this again.

Preparation
4 min, 0 sec

Yeah try the cold shaken matcha idea – you can always grab a coffee creamer from the food stand to make it into a latte of sorts.
Have a great year and uni and glad you got a locker! Sorry your chucks got wet though.

Indigobloom

Canadian winters suck! and I’m in Toronto, which I think is the farthest south heh. Then again, I am a big baby and hate the cold. tea helps!! :)

I once got a London fog latte from Tim’s, presumably made from these teabags, and it was actually pretty good.

Didn’t mind it – good in a pinch if not steeped too long. My first venture was in an XL cup so I had to watch the double tea bag that was added. Once it was pulled, however, it was ok. Let’s face it, it’s not designer tea like DAVID’s TEA but it was good.
You may want to add sweetener though (I didn’t, but that’s just me…)

Mmmmmm. Would I like some tea with my sugar? Yes. Yes I would. :)

Cuz really, this is just a cup of sugary creamy goodness.

I probably shouldn’t order double-double anymore as 95% of the time I drink my teas plain – this is just insane compared to what I’m used to. Insanely good.

Hah! – I just realized that this tea has only been rated on Steepster 8 times in 3 years. I was surprised to see it here.
