I’m about to brew my third cup of this today. Sore throat city! Should have taken better care of myself yesterday and not breathed in so much smoke while smoking the Thanksgiving turkey. I don’t mind the flavor, being a lover of licorice and anise, I just wish I could enjoy my other teas right now. The first cup definitely made my throat feel better, so at least it is doing the job!
Preparation
The first time I purchased Throat Coat was when I had a terrible cold that was already well underway, meaning my taste buds were completely out of commission (I can’t taste a single thing when my sinuses are blocked). I steeped it exactly according to the directions on the box and had it several times a day. Thankfully, it really did help my throat feel better (the only thing that did!) and I really enjoyed it. It does seem to coat the throat and feels thicker than other teas. To my surprise, when my husband tasted it (before I took a sip of course, didn’t want to spread germs), he thought it was disgusting. He’s not much of a tea drinker though, so I just shrugged my shoulders and continued to drink it frequently. As soon as my nose unclogged enough for me to be able to taste AT ALL though, the extremely unpleasant flavor of this tea became immediately apparent and I couldn’t choke it down anymore. Thankfully by then my throat wasn’t hurting as badly. I still buy this tea if I have a really bad sore throat, but only if my nose is all plugged up as well! This is honestly one of the worst tasting teas I’ve ever tried, so I give it a 5 for flavor, but an 80 for how much it helps my sore throat.
This is a bit of a deceiving tealog, only because I’ve blended this with Throat Coat (same company) and DAVID’s Super Ginger to make a potent potion. So 1L of water, two Cold Formula’s opened and dumped into my Breville, two Throat Coat’s opened and dumped into my Breville, then two rounded tsp of Super Ginger. Steep, and voila!
This is a surprisingly tasty combination, and naturally sweet to boot. It smells like herbally-hay, but tastes like a licorice mint chai with the burn of ginger and peppercorns. I’d drink this while healthy. Tasty!
Preparation
Stole a bag of this from my housemate. Desperate times call for desperate measure.
It tastes GROSS. Wayyyyyy too much licorice and anise. But damned if it isn’t working! Not the most pleasant experience flavor wise, but if you can just power through it, your throat will no longer be tickly or sore. Temporarily.
Blahhhhh I just wanna get better…
this tea bag was in the back of our cupboard at home. no idea how long it was there or where it came from. i know this is probably obvious but basically there are so many chais that are so much better than this one. so just drink those, and leave this one at the supermarket ok? i mean, it’s not even awful, but really, just trust me on this.
all the un-sampled teas i have are herbal, so my tastings have been kinda slow going.
but due to a slight chill in the air and my perpetual slight dehydration due to marathon training, i actually drank 3 herbals last night :)
this one, i never finished the cup. and i could say that it was because i was too tired? but i think it was probably just because i didn’t really like it. it was just a sample and i don’t have any more, so not to worry.
my new new kindle? it’s on my doorstep right now! i can’t wait to go home and cuddle it. can’t! wait!
A review of Organic Roasted Dandelion Root by Traditional Medicinals
Company: Traditional Medicinals
Tea Name: Organic Roasted Dandelion Root
Tea Type/Varietal: herbal
Region: Poland and Bosnia / California USA
Steeping Vessel/Amt Leaf: cup/ tea bag
Liquor Color: darkly golden brown
Leaf Characteristic: strong roasted cup of brewed tea
I used freshly boiled water and placing one tea bag in my cup, while adding the hot water over the tea bag, leaving it to steep for several minutes. After the allotted time, the tea’s aroma is strongly of roast, making for a strong cup of tea. I sip the tea slowly while taking in the aroma which makes me think of the burning of woods in the out of doors.
This tea reminds me a little of Hojicha tea which I have enjoyed immensely for its smoked aroma. The tea is both sweet and slightly bitter as the lasting note.
Overall tasting notes: This tea is wonderfully roasted in my cup. I like the headiness that if offers; as it gets the juices flowing to awaken me. I like the smokiness of it that is all.
Cup’s characteristic: roasted cup of tea
Liquor color: dark golden brown
Taste: roasted with a mildly sweet and bitter taste as the lasting impression.

A review of Organic Fennel by Traditional Medicinals
Company: Traditional Medicinals
Tea Name: Organic Fennel
Tea Type/Varietal: herbal
Region: Bulgaria / California, USA
Steeping Vessel/Amt Leaf: cup/ tea bag
Liquor Color: golden brown
Leaf Characteristic:
I used freshly boiled water and putting one tea bag in my cup, adding the boiled water and left it to steep for 15 minutes.
The teas’ aroma is strongly of licorice and when I sip of the tea, this is what I am met with. I don’t take at all to licorice, so I have several small sips of the tea before I can become accustom to its strong and pungent taste.
To compensate, I remind myself that this tea is good for me. As it will soothe and supports my digestion in relieving of excess gas, bloating and that fullness that comes when one consumes a little too much.
Overall tasting notes: I would not mind the tea so much, if the licorice could be removed and yet I feel that it would not be the same tea in my cup. So leave it as is.
Cup’s characteristic: This cup of tea is strongly of licorice, through and through.
Liquor color: golden brown
Taste: slightly bitter with the licorice chiding away at the sting of it.
Preparation
had this last night as i watched Breaking Bad.
(the second to final episode ever.)
that show is stressful yo!
this tea was tasty enough, but had little effect on how nervous the show made me ;)
it’s herbal tea bitch.
I don’t think anyone drinks this tea “for fun.” It wouldn’t help against something severe, like strep throat, but for a common cold or an annoying tickly throat feeling (such as the one I have currently), this tea is at your service. It relieves the irritation for a little while. I’d rather drink tea than take pills, though, so I may be biased.
This one tastes MUCH better than TM’s regular Throat Coat (I much prefer lemon over cherry bark… the cherry reminds me too much of cough syrup. Trying to gulp down a steaming mug of Robitussin? No thanks) and adding echinacea is always a good idea, in my opinion.
