Hey, it’s pretty good! I brewed this with cold water from the drinking fountain. It has a pretty good flavor, although maybe not quite as good as the iced tea I make at home.

drank Earl Grey (loose leaf) by Twinings

This was my first loose leaf tea. I enjoyed it for a good while, but before long, the flavor was too mild. It’s great, if you want a light Earl with a very refined flavor.

This is the ultimate, penultimate lapsang souchong tea. I have tried different brands but always come back to this; though I have to order online from Britain as they no longer sell this tea in Canada. How can I describe the taste? Comforting, soothing, redolent of raspberries and cherries (to me, anyways) – perfect with a little soy milk creamer and agave nectar. My go-to tea of all time.

drank English Breakfast by Twinings

Finally, I get to try one of the standards (at least in the US) for English Breakfast thanks to teawing….thank you for the generous Twinings sampling, by the way! I jumped directly from so-so bagged tea right into loose leaf in my tea journey, so I missed getting a chance to try some of the better bagged ones. I also find it interesting that there are some bagged teas that I like quite well. And this is one of them. It is always good to have something on hand that will travel easily as loose leaf can get a little messy.

This really is very good for a bagged tea. I liked this one without milk, but slightly sweetened. The tea itself is pretty basic, the flavor is rounded and smooth. It works for me, because I tend to gravitate toward good basic tea lately.

Their Lady Grey makes me feel positively poofy and I stick my pinky in the air when I drink it. I hope to get some orange essential oil soon and try Serendipitea’s suggestion of putting it in a closed tin for a couple of weeks with the oil.

Tom sent me some Lady Grey, too! I will have to try that one next!

I keep bagged Twinnings for the same reason…travel. I have a stash in my briefcase that I rotate, but I am never without.

Glad you liked the tea!

drank Earl Grey by Twinings

I am kind of confused by the myriad of Earl Greys that Twining’s seems to offer. I am now in Heathrow Airport (London) on my way to Madagascar and I had a bagged EG that wasn’t the typical yellow-pouch one but instead a black with “The Earl Grey” on it. But when I go to Twinings’ site it seems that perhaps it’s just a packaging redesign? I dunno, but I’m sticking it under here anyway.

So yeah, I haven’t had tea in it seem s like forever. I have been running around like crazy trying to get my apartment packed up and get ready to go into the field. Also, the weather decided to give me a big F-you and be exceedingly hot and humid for the last couple of days, so not hot-tea weather even if I did get a little break. But now finally I have time to relax in my layover in London and I finally got a pot of tea. Twining’s isn’t my favorite, but I actually enjoyed my pot of tea way more than I did last time. Maybe they did a slight reblend, or maybe I just appreciate the base tea more this time around, but it was nice and well rounded, and not bitter or astringent at all. Very pleasant and welcome after the plane ride.

Have fun in Madagascar!!! We’ll miss you while you’re gone!

I know the Twinings that my daughter’s boyfriend sends me from N. Ireland have different packaging than the same ones here. Maybe that is it?

Daisy Chubb

Lovely! Glad your long awaited pot of tea was satisfying

Missy

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks guys!

ashmanra – perhaps, but confusingly Twining’s has loose leaf tins on their UK website under “Earl Greys” in both the new black design and the old yellow design, listed separately. Who knows!

Madagascar! That’s amazing! Have fun, good luck there!

I’ve had a couple of cups of this in the mornings while here in London because it’s pretty much what every cafe sells. And I find it interesting how far I’ve come! I feel like when I first started drinking tea I would have (and I believe I did) like this one a lot. It doesn’t get bitter very easily, has a nice strong bergamot flavor that’s not to astringent and that says “Earl Grey” pretty plainly, but there’s just not much else going on. It seems… flat. I think it has to be the black tea base. It just lacks a depth of flavor I’ve come to expect from my favorite teas. It’s perfectly serviceable, but when compared to the EG I had at teapod the other day for instance, they’re in completely different categories.

Incidentally, I’ve discovered that I’ve completely lost my taste for plain black generic tea bags (be they Twinnings or whatever)… I used to drink them on occasion when traveling, for instance, and now I can’t even finish a cup.

Nothing as a nice jasmine tea for the evening, of course is not the best one neither the most expensive, but is just the right tea to drink in evening as right now. Its one of thoose “daily teas” all tea lover need and should have in their cupboard. :) happy day to all :D

At the bottom of the tin. I’m thinking this one might be getting stale. Instead of smooth and malty it’s more bitter and peppery. Still a decent cup. Especially when shared with a friend.

An afternoon french press with a co-worker. Made it a little bit on the industrial strength side. Bright. Malty. Maybe a tad bitter. This time it has a bit of a metallic tinge to it. I’m starting to notice the difference between the broken leaf in this one and the whole leaf that you get with the high grown from Teavana. This one is not as smooth and it’s hitting the tummy a little funny. Yeah have to drop this one a little.

Found a can of this at Big Lots for 2.50 already a win. I’ve found this one to be quite good. Malty, not too strong black flavor. In my experience between Twinnings and Teavanna there is not much deviation in the flavor which is good. If you like English Breakfast you could go with either it will be good. I did notice that Twinnings loose leaf are a little bit tinier almost like a CTC Assam. Made it in the french press…two tasty steepings so far. This could become a favorite.

I have only had the bagged version of this, but I am going to swing by Biglots today with the hope…
It has been a staple for me for some time. Thanks for the heads up.

Anyways the cup fill me with a nice warm :) though the taste is good some how i had tried much better for pure green teas, this one loose flavor a little.

I love this brand of tea since its a quality tea and not expensive for their taste. Its easy to buy them and has a “daily cup” flavor. For daily kinds of tea (not special cups, just drinking the pure tea) this flavor from twinings its very soft if well prepared cause it mix the sweet floral aroma and taste with the bitter of green teas. But its a very delicate tea cause if its left for few time more than it should…it will end tasting horribly bitter.

From all my collection of english breakfast tea, this is one of the best ones. Its easy to find in stores, not expensive to be a quality tea and the flavor makes harmony between the strong taste of black tea and a lovevly refreshing touch. Personally i truly recommend this kind of tea to be consumed while a tender little sweet snack perhaps, not so sweet cause it will ruin the classic flavor of the traditional english black tea.

This is one of my favourites from Twinnings.
The coconut, vanilla and cocoa creates a perfect balance in this black tea blend. Sweet but not cloying.
This tastes absolutely great with a brown sugar spoon and any kind of milk, specially with soy, oat or rice milk.
