Definitely a uniquely flavoured tea. I love it, but I can understand why someone wouldn’t- I also love licorice tea in general.

I pick this one up whenever I see it on sale – it’s a good caffeinated morning cup when I don’t feel up for the heavier flavor of a yerba mate. It’s also a nice perk-up if I’m getting sleepy too early in the evening (example: right now. why am I so tired??). I used to drink this back when it was just plain old Slim Life, and I can’t honestly say I taste much of a difference with the addition of the blueberry. It’s more tart in the way that blueberries are tart, but without really having the taste of the fruit itself, if that makes sense.

Yogi says steep for three minutes, but I find that a 2:45 steep cuts it off just when it’s about to sneak in some bitterness. Also god only knows if this actually helps with weight loss, but for what it’s worth I always take some along with me when I go to visit my grandparents because I know they’ll be plying me with baked goods. Because a cup of caffeinated tea is really going to counterbalance dessert with every meal. Don’t give me that look, it helps me sleep at night.

This is one of my current favorites. I find it nicely sweet, since it already has stevia leaf in the bag, so it needs very little (if any) additional sweetening. In comparison to some white tea with pomegranate that my roommate bought, it is very sweet. It’s a beautiful bright red color, and I love the sweet smell of it. It’s good hot or cold, which is odd of fruit teas for me.

I quite like this tea. I’m not a fan of licorice, but it follows the minty taste very nicely. It’s a soothing tea, with a mild spiciness, quite a nice aroma, and it’s very good for both cold days and digestive problems.

I’m a fan of reading ingredients before I buy stuff… I know licorice and I don’t get along, for instance, so most Yogi teas are out (incidentally, people with high blood pressure or on blood thinners shouldn’t consume licorice)…

I’m confused by the migraine and wouldn’t blame tea—especially as the neurological signal from sip to brain would take about fifteen minutes with even the most intense triggers like MSG. Fluorescent lights are a bigger risk than ANYTHING on this label. My background is in neurology AND I have migraines at times… they come with hormone changes (females especially at the start of a cycle), they come with free glutamic acid, and then environmental and stress triggers… maybe if the person were SUPER SENSITIVE to ginger that could make for a reaction, but not the amount in a tea bag.

So yeah, I read the ingredients… chicory has a chocolate mimicking taste-it’s what makes the chocolate Fiber One bars more chocolatey than normal (and it has fiber). This isn’t truly decaf, and for me, it requires 2 bags… but more often, I’ll make 12-16 ounces and use 2-3 bags vanilla hazelnut by Yogi and 1 bag of this (this one’s much stronger but still not especially strong). It MUST have milk—it’s awful without—and sugar, too, is recommended (it says upfront add sweetener and milk or milk substitute—this too makes doubling the bags a must)…

That said, I don’t fault Yogi for this phenomena, but tea bags almost NEVER have the amount of tea/spices that you’d actually use (even if your “loose” tea was crushed like this, it’d still be more than this)… so be prepared to use more with most bags if they aren’t abundant in “flavors” which could be anything and which almost always are extremely concentrated, unlike “real” ingredients.

I like it. Whether I should or not is debatable… I make it very strong, again typically mixing it with the vanilla hazelnut (which is oddly named as it’s also more like a vanilla chai flavored tisane whereas this is a chocolate chai type tisane)… but this came first, long before the vanilla hazelnut one was introduced, so I’ve plenty of experience with this… oh, and it’s also really neat to use steeped cocoa spice tea as the base FOR actual hot cocoa—droste cocoa, milk or cream (the latter if you’re like me), sugar, and a very strong concentration of this—4oz or so—and boom, you’ve cheated on your spicy cocoa and don’t have to stir and simmer anything on the stove.

Ugh, cough sneeze I hate having a cold. But this tea really does help. I’m on my second bag of the day, and it mostly tastes of ginger and pepper and a hint of basil and oregano. (Don’t worry, the latter two are muted and don’t taste unpleasant.) Though this has the ubiquitous Yogi Teas licorice in it, the flavor is actually rather dormant.

I am such a fan of Yogi Teas and Traditional Medicinals to help cure what ails me. I use this one for allergies too, as it’s for overall respiratory health, and to help keep my sinus infections at bay.

This is pretty refreshing. Supposedly the herbs make the caffeine effect more balanced. Tastes overwhelmingly like a zesty mint.

Tastes like a weak version of Tazo Apple Red + candle wax. Not my thing. The licorice overwhelms everything and overall it’s pretty bland.

If you wanna be rollin on ayurvedic herbs, this is your best bet. Definitely gives you clarity and some really excellent energy. I’m using it right now for a light detox week and I can already feel myself pepping up.

Flavor wise… It really is supposed to be like medicine. So it doesn’t bowl you over with awesome tastiness, but it isn’t really supposed to.

I once went to a Mexican restaurant and ordered the hot chocolate. I assumed they would have a ton of spices in it. Instead, I’m pretty sure they just took a plain package of hot chocolate and mixed it with water (they could have at least used milk). But the rest of the dinner was boring too. This is kind of the spiciness I wanted the hot chocolate to taste like. I actually steeped a bag of this in some hot chocolate once, and it wasn’t bad! I originally got a free sample of this and liked it so much, I bought a box. Very sweet and spicy! I don’t usually like ginger very much, but the other things in this tea kind of mask it.

First cup was exciting cause the flavours were so surprising.
Second cup left me pretty skeptical over whether there will ever be a third cup..

To phrase it in a way we can all understand: This is not my cup of tea.

I always use 2 bags per cup as I like this blend strong. I love it as an after dinner tea and also as a black tea alternative at breakfast. A little honey or sugar enhances the flavor, but I don’t mind drinking it without.

2nd cup. I figured out what this kinda reminds me of – the glue on envelopes. When I was a kid I helped my dad out with his company’s mailings and often the glue would taste good – a little like licorice candy. I’d lick a couple and then give in to my mom’s pressuring of using a wet sponge instead of my tongue.

Anyhoo, that’s what this tea reminds me of, and it brings back a happy childhood memory – although I realize now I was working for my dad for free – he had free labor! ;)

This is in teabag form, of course, so I wonder if I should have a different rating system? What do you think?

Back to the tea. First sip there is a lot going on. Almost too much. It’s spicy – whoa, there’s the licorice. I love the sweet aftertaste of licorice, but you know it’s there. So if you don’t like licorice, you may want to pass on this tea – and possibly all Yogi teas. It’s a fave ingredient of theirs.

I can see why this would be a popular tea for someone who is sick – especially if you can’t taste anything.

A few sips in and I’m thinking this tea is kinda nasty. Yet I keep drinking it. It makes my throat feel good – all the flavors of helping one feel better when one is sick.

It’s soothing. And kinda making me sleepy. I think I’ll re-evaluate and re-rate later, after I try another cup…

About 15 mins later: I noticed the brew is kinda foggy and I’m concerned about consuming a foggy tea. Nonetheless I keep drinking it… and now it’s starting to taste kinda good…

YUCK. I didn’t like this at all. Had it last night to see if it would work as my new bedtime tea. I steeped it for the full ten minutes, and it tasted very strongly of cinnamon – I couldn’t really taste anything else, aside from an aftertaste of…dirty? It tasted like the tea had been made with dirty water, or something. I’m not a big cinnamon fan at all, so it was way too strong for me. Going to try steeping it for five minutes, or adding some almond milk (or both) and seeing if I like it any better.

Another herbal I’m adding to my routine for a while to help with winter fatigue. Yogi offers their Detox versions in a berry and peach flavor also, but check the labels carefully – there are differing levels of ingredients in each. The peach flavor appealed to me, but it had lower % of the ingredients I was looking for (dandelion root, for example). By law, ingredients on labels have to be listed in order of % of the total (for those who weren’t aware).

The aroma is heavenly. I don’t so much get the sarsparilla as I get the caramom and cinnamon coming through. Licorice root adds a sweetness in the sip, and the pepper adds a kick to it. The pepper was a surprise – I like adding pepper as a savory enhancer to balance the sweet in different things, chocolate and so forth.

The other thing I’m noticing with Yogi teas is that the steeping time/strength doesn’t seem to affect the taste especially. I put 2 bags in a 4-cup teapot – intentionally didn’t want a super-strong infusion, but the result was still a peppery sweetness.

It’s enjoyable, whether you’re drinking it for health or for taste. Reminiscent of holiday spice teas.

I hope they’re not discontinuing this tea – I couldn’t find it anywhere on their website! Amazon still has it for sale, and I’ve seen it locally, so hopefully it’s just some sort of a glitch.

Anyways – I LOVE this tea. It’s strong and a bit sweet – I add a bit of honey and a dash of almond milk, and it’s mm-mm good that way. It also energizes me without giving me the jitters – I’m very sensitive to caffeine, coffee is WAY too much & leaves me shaky/irritable all day. This is perfect though. It’s my go-to morning tea at the moment.

drank Healthy Fasting by Yogi Tea
54 tasting notes

I brewed a strong pot of this after a day of culinary adventures. I didn’t actually purchase this tea as a fasting support, I looked at the label and it contains several herbs I’ve been meaning to add to my vitamin regimen. Dandelion root, licorice, and fennel, among others.

It should be noted that this isn’t a tea to drink in large quantities if you have certain health concerns – always read the label to know exactly what you’re drinking.

Licorice is the primary aroma and flavor. There’s a sweet mid-note and aftertaste. You can smell and taste the fennel on the initial part of the sip.

This is a great tea to help train your palate if you were looking for that experience. The sweets and savories are clear and appear in different stages and parts of the mouth.

The black licorice flavor is well-balanced, it stays mellow and lets the other ingredients play through. A nice end-of-day relaxing cup even if you’re not fasting.

Not a tea for people who prefer simple, uncomplicated blends.
