thanks for bumping this thread up, or i’d have never known about it!! i just ordered my 3 samples!! and no shipping fees :D

i ordered Mocaccino Might, Marzipan Dream & Warrior Chai. i was on the fence between Orange Pekoe & Warrior Chai bc i know i love chais, altho most tend to overdose on the clove, and don’t have a black tea base strong enough to balance the spiciness. i liked, however, that they added pink peppercorn & echinacea, which not only supports your immune system, but also imparts a slightly floral taste… i think i’d appreciate anything to cut the harshness of spice (as seems to be the case with most chais these days…they can be spicy yes, but should not be harsh. i’m not sure i trust anyone to handle the making of chai except for those at home preparing it on a stove top). anyway, rant over, lol.

i wanted to try Orange Pekoe since it was a straight black & i really want to taste a quality black tea with rich notes. they said it was from Sri Lanka but declined to mention which kind of tea. i’m assuming it’s Ceylon?

i hope this isn’t too good to be true…and yes, i do find it peculiar that they aren’t on Steepster. well, here’s hoping for the best!

Yep. That is a safe assumption to make. Ceylon is the old imperial name for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is also one of the few countries that just uses the OP label. The majority of the time that you see a tea labeled OP (or Orange Pekoe), it should be a Ceylon/Sri Lankan tea.

thanks for the clarification! i knew Ceylon was the old name for Sri Lanka..and i’ve tasted Ceylon tea on its own, which to me has a very distinctive flavor for a black, but is very hard to describe! just wasn’t sure if the tea in question was a Sri Lankan Ceylon, as opposed to say, any other variety of black tea they might be growing, though it seems highly improbable to me that they’d be harvesting an Assam or a Nilgiri! i do suppose it’s possible to have other cultivars (as there is Taiwanese Assam!).. is it the soil that gives Ceylon its flavor profile as opposed to something like Darjeeling? or does it have more to do with the plant harvested?

an interesting query…could Sri Lanka produce Nilgiri? since Nilgiri is native to Tamil Nadu in India, and thus very close to the tiny island, might they have transplanted or even exported over there?

never tasted Nilgiri btw, but would like to!

i have some googling to do..

Ceylon’s a demographic region of Sri Lanka, so a Sri Lankan tea could only grow a Ceylon tea and never a Nilgiri or an Assam or a Darjeeling.

Different regions in Sri Lanka will create different flavors. The most common regions in Sri Lanka are Dimbula, Uva, and Galle. Though there are several others.

The Taiwanese Assam is unique because Assam is a name for a specific sub-species of the Camellia Sinensis species.
