pregnant and wanting to find safe teas

Frank has an expensive (for me) habit of nailing tea flavor so if a decaf true tea is ok w/ your OBGYN and you like black tea and currants, I’d suggest checking this one out. This just came out so obviously only Frank has tried it as of yet, but it’s Frank’s so it’s gotta be good, right?

Just tried Praise Tea’s Decaf Peach Orchid black and it’s amazing! The base is definitely in the lighter side, but it is not weak by any means.

I was totally there with you about a year ago (and now am still a bit there with the nursing)…

For what it’s worth, I tried to be tea free for the first trimester, then one cup of black or two cups of green for the rest of the pregnancy. The last month or two I’d get up to 2 or 3 cups of black on occasion. I read a few things that said if you have caffeine towards the end the baby can handle it better when nursing. For later down the line, if you decide to nurse, I avoided it for the first week, started with a cup of green tea whenever I remembered to make it (which due to extra health issues was about every three days or so) and have now gotten to about 3 cups of black tea a day (at 6 months). The little guy doesn’t seem phased by it. Once we’re done with this period, I’m looking forward to not having to count cups any more!! :)

During the first trimester, especially, and throughout really, I tried drinking rooibos and decafs but I’m not really a fan of either. Sometimes it was enough to remind me of what I was missing, though. :)

Best of luck with everything!!

Did you know that most of the caffeine in a tea brews out the first time. So if you are worried about caffeine you can always brew the tea, dump it (or share it with someonelse) and then rebrew with warmer water temp and slightly longer, you will be getting minimal caffeine if any at all. I also suggest Sweet Sin from joysteaspoon.com. It is a caffeine free rooibos tea with raspberry and and vanilla.

There’s so much conflicting info on that, I really don’t trust that info as far as I can throw it… and speaking of throwing, I definitely don’t want to throw good flavor down the drain (literally). White a lot of teas are good for multiple infusions, most teas (especially blacks) are best on the 1st infusion.

Congratulations! I too am pregnant…22 weeks now! I own Joy’s Teaspoon so I am a little biased…but I am in love with rooibos teas right now. Sweet Sin and Lemon Zest are my faves for the last few weeks now. Sweet Sin has raspberries and vanilla so it’s smooth and tasty and awesome warm. Lemon Zest, obviously lemony, but also very creamy and delicious cold. I also am a huge fan of Almond Cookie (roasted, carmelized almonds). It’s just a few months…but I am really looking forward to those greens, blacks and oolongs in March! Enjoy the time though!

I just bought my friend who is pregnant 5oz of tea from Cupteavity. I have not tried any of these, but here are some ideas. This is what I bought:
Vanilla Rooibos Chai, Acai Berry Rooibos Chai, Wild Blueberry Rooibos Chai, Coconut Rooibos Chai, Lemongrass Rooibos Chai… I’m thinking the vanilla, coconut, and lemongrass chais would be great blended together!
