March expenditures:
$68 at Mandala (includes new yixing)
$109 at Chawang shop
$292 year-to-date. I’ve spent over half of my $500 budget so far. I’m not going to make it!

April update: I was going to skip this month but wound up with a last-minute order to Angelina’s teas ($92). YTD = $384

which yixing did you get?

Okay so I figured I’d jump in on this.
I did this back in 2013 and.. I didn’t do that well? But now that I have a lot of tea in my stash, I’m hoping I won’t purchase more? //crosses fingers//

I wish to spend no more than $250 in tea this year. That’s a bit over $20 each month.
Cries bc I want to spend more, but college D:
I think it sorta helps that I get free tea at Teavana :) I don’t really like Teavana all that much? But hey. Free tea.

January: none
February: none
March:
- $44 Davids
- $26 Lupicia
April:
- $29 Adagio, but I used like $15 in points so it came down to $14!

Grand total: $84

$166 left in budget :)

I plan on spending only $150.00 USD on tea so far. Small purchases but they are the most I can spend for my luxury purchases of tea.
Shan Shui Tea $30.00
Golden Tips Tea 15.00
Teabox Tea 15.00
Crimson Lotus Tea 6.50

Ahhh as hard as I try, it seems to follow this formula:

Salary – rent – gas – whatever groceries are cheapest that week = amount spent on tea.

It’s about time to ponder a budget!

I’ve been adding in the teaware but it’s bumping up the cost big time. Perhaps we need to have a budget for tea and then a budget for teaware? lol

I second that idea! Truthfully, my Nannuoshan order was all teaware and the majority of my Teavivre and Joseph Wesley orders were too! Those pots from Crimson lotus were my first clay pots, so I don’t think they should count…just anything over the “basics”, lol!!!

Nannuoshan has some lovely teaware. Can’t blame you for splurging on that. I have to agree about the basics! I’ve really only got one yixing teapot so far and it was an economical one from Teavivre. I’ve got a second one someone gave to me but it has ink on the outside and I’ve had an awful problem seasoning it so I’m thinking I want to get a really good quality yixing down the road. I love some of the ones at Yunnan Sourcing. And just this year I have expanded my gaiwan collection and some cups. Before I only a had one gaiwan. I’m thinking once I get the basics I will probably slow down. Right?

Now I think I will go check out what Joseph Wesley has for teaware. Just looking mind you. ;-)

I don’t really have a budget, but I’ll be tracking my tea spending through the year. This is the first year I’ve really been into tea.

Now that I’ve really embraced pu’erh as my go-to tea for morning through lunch, I just placed an order to Mandala for $150 (about $100 pu’erh, the rest smaller “sampler packs” of various black teas). Hopefully that will last me for a while., although I’m also fond of Darjeeling, Yunnan, and Keemun teas, so my spending for the year isn’t over…

I’ve thought about a way to calculate how much I should spend such as a percentage of income… but then I ended up deciding that I should just multiple my age by the year and then divide it by how many cups a week I drink. While that makes absolutely no sense, it came out to $720. I will follow up with this foolery come December.
(I’m curious to how much that would mean others would spend- when I’m 70 it gives me $2065 if I drink the same amount as I do now)

I know I’m over $3000 if I include Liquid Proust Teas… but for my personal collection, I believe I’m already over $1000 this year which means I screwed up that $720/year goal.

Time to cut July off…
$40 Whispering Pines (Rivendell made it a must)
$15 Ost (Must buy all the Butiki)
$50 Tea Urchin (1989 oolong for thy birthday)
$MONEY$ 1999 Golden Bud cake

+ I ordered my first tea tray for $80
(super excited)

how was Golden Bud? Where did you buy?

I officially give up counting :P , I’m over $40 a week for sure. Now, if the internet did not exist I would be spending very little.

September
$120 Berylleb
$77 Yunnan Sourcing
$25 Global Tea Hut
$50 What Cha

October
$56 YUNOMI
$11 Aliexpress Pu’erh powder (laughs)
$25 Global Tea Hut

I use Mint to budget and track my tea spending with it. Last year I spent a total of $202 on tea and I just topped it with my running total now at $203. That’s not counting teaware of course.

My tea spending in the past has always been fairly modest. And that’s because I used to only drink Japanese greens and a few other flavored teas. But late last year I had a tea awakening. Started to explore other kinds of tea (chinese greens, oolongs, whites, and herbal) and discovered the higher end online tea shops like Verdant and Yunnan – dangerous sites to window shop if you’re not careful. As you can imagine, my tea consumption and spending have gone way up. At this rate I will probably double last year’s total. Which is fine, just have to reign myself in from getting too carried away with my tea hobby :-)
