Steepster Bug Status Thread

I’m not sure if this is just me, but none of the likes I am giving other reviews are saving. I tried last night and today and each time the heart is back to grey again. Thanks!

Dexter said

Agreed. If you click on the “likes” where it lists everyone who has liked the note it shows that I’m on the list, but on my dashboard the hearts are all grey….

The likes seem to be working again now for me. I hope yours are, too!

Anlina said

This has been a persistent issue for me for ages. Well, the hearts stay highlighted on the main Dashboard page, but everything that appears below when I hit the See More button has greyed out hearts even though I liked it and appear on the individual tasting note page.

Jason select said

Well, we didn’t change anything over the weekend that would fix the heart issue, so unfortunately nothing conclusive there…

Anlina, thanks for the info about hearts below the “see more” button. That could be helpful.

Dexter said

Just adding to this – the “see more” has been an issue for me for months, but recently even the ones on the current page aren’t sticking. If I close Steepster and come back in an hour the ones that I had liked are all grey even if they are on the first page – this seems to be happening just since the latest update. If that helps at all….

Jason select said

The issue had been reported since before the update, so I’m guessing whatever was causing the issue is still and issue. Thanks for the info though.

Jason select said

Just gave it another go and did see the issue of the hearts not sticking on ones below the see more button, after I had refreshed the page. Ones above the see more button were fine though.

Have you noticed any specific situation that causes the hearts above the see more button to disappear? Like you signed out or something?

Also, on ones that you’ve liked where the heart isn’t active, if you go to the tasting note are you listed there as having liked the post? When I tested I was listed on the tasting note page, so it seems to have recorded my like. i just didn’t see the active heart on my dashboard feed.

Dexter said

I’m not sure about today – at work – not really reading all the tasting notes. Over the weekend and some days last week – the hearts would show as long as I was on the site. I could read the forums, look at my cupboard, look up teas, etc. then go back to the dashboard and the ones above the line were fine. They seems to disappear if I closed my browser – I’m auto signed in so it’s not that I logged out, just totally left the site. When I came back even the ones on the current page were not show red hearts. Yes they are always (above/below the line) showing as liked on the tasting note page.

And my newest tasting note has a paragraph duplicated on the screen that isn’t duplicated in the edit page- so I can’t fix it. Any help is appreciated!

I still can’t remove the duplicated information (it says it isn’t there on the edit screen). I’m looking at the H & S Vanilla Black review in particular. Thanks!

Jason select said

Weird. I see the duplicated content. Any idea how it got there? You just saved normally and it showed up?

Thanks for responding! Not sure how it got there because I didn’t see it duplicated before I posted or in the edit option. Wish I could help more, but thanks for looking into it!

PROBLEM: Link from user’s Tea Ratings page does not go to tasting note.

DETAILS: If I go to another person’s Tea Ratings page and click on the “logged N times” link below a tea, it should link directly to the user’s tasting note(s) for that tea, right? (The URL has #post_group_user_ at the end of it.) But instead it just goes to the tea’s main page.

I tested this on Firefox and Chrome; let me know if you need me to email more details.

Thanks!

Confirmed, I’m seeing this too. Adding it to the list. Thanks!

Hi, this still isn’t working, but it’s not listed as an acknowledged bug. Should I report it again?

Jason select said

Sorry, it hasn’t been fixed. Should be on the acknowledged list. Adding now.

Unfortunately, it’s been some time since we’ve been able to dive in and fix non-critical bugs.

Is everyone else still having issues with the discussions? Mine stay blue even though I’ve read them…most of the time. This has been happening since the updates a few days ago.

Anlina said

Yup.

Jason select said

Yep, that’s a known issue. No fix out yet. It’s in the confirmed section.

Uniquity said

Haha, I am clearly still not used to having this thread! Even though I posted in it…

Jason select said

No worries! :)

Lindsay said

This one seems to be fixed, at least it’s working for me now…

Jason select said

Ah yea, forgot to update the list. Marking it resolved, yay! :)

Hi Jason,

Steepster “ate” the majority of this review:
http://steepster.com/looseTman/posts/246195#comments

Thanks!

I notice you’re talking about temperatures in that review – did you have a “less than” sign (a backwards “>”) in there? That could cause the text after it to get eaten.

Jason select said

Thanks for the link. Like Chai mentioned, did you have special any formatting in this note? Can you send me the original?

looseTman said

Chai & Jason,

I checked to see if I had also saved this review as a Word.doc. Unfortunately, Steepster was my only copy. I suspect the review might have unfortunately included a “less than” sign:

“I’ve also used it for teas that require temperatures “less than sign” 212* with a DAVIDsTEA digital thermometer. ….."

Sounds like we need a sticky note warning us not to use certain character(s) to prevent data loss or other calamities until such issues are fully resolved.

I clicked on the Edit button for this review and discovered that all my original text was still there. I replaced the less than sign with the words “less than” and presto, problem solved.

I’m not sure whether this is a bug or a feature request, but I would like to be able to reliably search for the names of tea companies, not just individual teas.

So I guess the bug report part of this is the fact that if I search for ‘misty peak’, I get no results. If I search for ‘misty’ I get 80 results but none of them are a misty peak tea – most are teas from Distinctly Tea. If I search for ‘peak’ I get 235 teas, but fortunately one from Misty Peak is on the first page – the one where “Misty Peak” is included in the name of the tea (which ought to be unnecessary). Likewise when I was trying to find the Lemon Lily teas I added, searching for ‘lemon lily’ gets one unrelated tea named “Lemony Snicket” and none of the lemon lily teas. ‘lemon’ gets 948 lemony teas. ‘lily’ gets 47 teas, most of which seem to have the string “ili” in the name.

The feature request part of this is that I’d really like it if a search would return both Teas and Companies, and maybe display them separately… or have a way to search for just one or the other.

Thanks for the feedback. I have this on the bug list already, since we’ve noticed and a number of people have called to our attention some weirdness with the search relevancy. This is on the list as “- Search algorithm for relevancy needs to be updated – Confirmed”

Good Morning Jason,

Please see this tasting note and its comments about the heart function: http://steepster.com/ashmanra/posts/287768#likes. Thanks!

Jason select said

Had this on the list but moved it to confirmed. I’ve replicated a version of this issue too.

I’ve noticed that whenever I open the steepster main site in a new window it shows the form for creating a new account while I’m still logged in. I don’t know if that’s normal or not, and it’s not like I’m getting kicked off of my account so that I have to log in again. It’s just a little baffling.

Jason select said

Do you have to login again to access the site, or do you just click away and keep going to the site since you’re still logged in?

I’ve noticed this, too, lately. If I click on the Steepster logo, though (or other tabs), I can access the tasting notes from people I follow and such without having to log in.

Jason select said

Jennkay, I’m pretty sure it’s not the case that you’re able to access your dashboard if you’re not logged in. But there may be some issue with certain pages being cached, or that you’re actually logged in and it just looks like you’re not…

When creating a new tea with words in quotes, the quotes don’t get into the tea name as quotes but as the phrase “"” or something like that. I have simply removed quotes after creating teas.

AllanK said

Where I had quotes above in removed the phrase &quot

Jason select said

Confirmed. We had a similar issue on names in Places.

This just happened to me the first time, but CrowKettle and Dexter confirmed it’s happening to them as well. The “Show more posts” button on the bottom of my dashboard disappears after I press it once. Normally I can go on forever (well, in theory), but right now I’m only getting two pages, to 11 hours ago. Dexter’s is to 15 hours ago. There is no option to see more.

(This is one reason I dislike endless scrolling. Pages FTW!)

Crowkettle said

I don’t remember specific dates, but I’ve also noticed this problem on a few other occasions.

Dexter said

Last night when you mentioned this, I could only hit “show more posts” once – so I was only getting two pages of tasting notes. This morning I can hit “show more posts” twice – so I’m only getting three pages…

OMGsrsly said

Same as last night for me. Same on my phone and my computer as well.

Jason select said

What browsers are you guys using generally?

Crowkettle said

Usually Firefox, sometimes Chrome. The “show more posts” feature is working fine for me right now though.

OMGsrsly said

Usually Firefox. It updates automatically as well, so I’m always using whatever the latest version is. It’s also working fine for me again.

I was having the exact same problem as them, on the same night. I use the latest version of Chrome.

Jason select said

Thanks guys, I’m seeing this too.

Is anyone else having issues loading their notices tab on the dashboard?
