Travelling Teabox?
I hope a lot of people will post generously on Steepster discussion thread about their experience with the box. I’m thinking that the thread, along with the log from the box, could be worked into a book form — what do you think? I’d like to co-write it, or just write it. But wait — to whom does the “tale of the traveling teabox” belong? Steepster, Yourself angrboda, the writers of the posts and logs, or whom?
I think this is going to be a great experience, indeed! Looking forward to many new teas :)
Approx how many teas started in the box!?
Not sure yet. I haven’t put it together yet, but I expect to do so tomorrow when I’ve got some stuff to pack the leaves in. It’ll probably be a pretty wide selection from my collection though so the first person on the list has something to choose from.
Awesome! Can’t wait! So…we can put in as many as we want as long as the minimum is the equivalent of what we take, right!?
You can put as many or as few in as you like. When I say try to match the amount of tea going in to the amount going out, I’m thinking more about the weight of the box so that shipping charges doesn’t rise drastically as it gets from place to place. If there’s something you want and it’s a large enough sample, it’s perfectly fine to just take half of it, for example, but you’re not limited to only being allowed to take x kinds of tea out. If there are only two things you’re interested in, you take those. If there are fifteen things you’re interested in, by all means take them all, as long as they’re replaced with something else. :)
I was curious about the spelling of "travelling," so I googled it up. It seems that "traveling" is American and "travelling" is British/Canadian. So both are correct. To me, an American, "travelling" adds interest by sounding a bit Euro-exotic!
Hee! I thought ‘traveling’ looked wrong, but then I’ve been conditioned towards British English over a few years not. I have an english friend who, when we chatted on MSN, got a little tired of my my english being a glorious mixture of british and american english and me not knowing which difference belonging to which continent, so he started helping me streamline my english a bit and weed out the americanisms. Like ‘gotten’ for example, which I didn’t know was largely an americanism. And with meeting Lexitus (through aforementioned friend, actually), I’m even more turned that way. (I may also have been accused of being an anglophile a time or two which is probably completely wrong). But I still refuse to accept that ‘unpractical’ is not a word. I say that all the time, how can it not be a word???! O.o
So there you have it. The longwinded explanation for how I spell. ;)
They do in the rest of the english speaking world too. Unpractical isn’t a real word. But that’s what I’ve always said and my brain is having a hard time readjusting from un- to im-. Lexitus corrects me when it happens, but lately I’ve caught myself either saying un- in sheer spite or trying to phrase stuff so that I don’t need either word.
I’m looking forward to the surprise. And planning what I’d like to put in the box. I’ll probably cycle through (and discard) several ideas as I go along, because that’s just how I operate. :)
WHOOO! I got the the box today! Unfortunately, despite being on vacation I am crazy busy and will have to wait till tomorrow to open it/ drink some/ send it off again.
What fun! Looking forward to joining the next go around. Enjoy!
Hey when I can join up for the next round? I want in!
When the next one is being planned. It’s been going for 3 months and we aren’t even halfway done so it’ll be awhile.
The Steepster Overlords have taken over the project. I don’t know what and when they’re going to do anything. I’m just taking this round to the end, but apart from that it’s out of my hands.
Hello out there, Steepsters! What does that mean: “The Steepster Overlords have taken over the project” Huh?
We can discuss the travelling teabox on Flickr, too:

Okay, I looked on Flickr, and see that AmazonV has posted a lot of photos as of Feb 24th. So what is happening now? Somebody post a note saying they have the box! :) My eager, excited expectation is exceedingly itchy!
that means that it is going to become an official feature as part of steepster instead of community organized and run

Can we do something like TTB for Europe?
Marcela, who is this “we” of whom you speak? ;-) You may have just volunteered to organize the TTBE! But seriously, isn’t that the way it often works — the one who wants it most and can do it, is the one to organize it? You might find someone who is already doing this. Who’s good at googling? Help Marcela out! I guess you’d google “traveling tea europe” or “traveling tea Spain” etc — something like that.
Angrboda organized this TTB, after which the Steepster Overlords have said that they would like to make it a site feature. Perhaps the bells and whistles to do this via the Steepster site (only with less work than Angrboda had to do) are about to be unveiled. Contact Jason or Steepster Support to find out. Angrboda liked that everyone who signed up was active on Steepster. A TTB can become a bit precious to everyone who cares and is responsible, only to hit a snag along the way with someone who is not.
I have organized a local TTB, and I required the full name, home address and phone, and email address of all who participated. Plus a promise that they would NOT leave the box in a hot car this Texas Summer! Organizing a TTB via Steepster Discussion again would work, but check with site management first. Alternatively, there are lots of other sites where you can organize a group for free. Some have more helpful features than others. Best wishes if/when you decide to route a TTB through Europe, and have fun with i!.
As my post just 1 min before Dax Pamela Dean states, she is correct. “You might find someone who is already doing this”, but you not only “may”- you will. And you can sign up here: http://steepster.com/discuss/563-traveling-tea-box-2
ooops sorry cofftea, I’m new here, just logged in today :-)
No need to apologize! Welcome to steepster! Be sure to ask if you have any other questions:)
