Problems with shipments from China?

Hi all,
I have had two problems with shipments from China. 1) Yunnan Sourcing order – the USPS website says it was delivered and I never got it. 2) Dragon Tea House – the USPS website says it arrived in San Francisco (where I live) and then got sent to Sacramento??? Has anyone else experienced weird messages like this and then got the teas later? I am at my wit’s end and about to stop ordering tea from China because it can’t seem to get any to my house. I have ordered from both these companies in the past and can’t quite figure out what’s going on!

Both sound like USPS being terrible, as it’s in their hands. Call them and ask for them to look for your package, it could be scanned wrong on the truck and you’ll get it soon for 1. This happened a few times to me. Worse wasn’t an international package but USPS delivered it to the wrong house!

For number 2, could be a customs thing, but I have seen weird stops, especially any mail for me that’s hits east coast and makes it to me on west coast. Stops in 7 states, back tracks a state or two.

Thanks Awkward Soul. I will try giving them a call in the morning and see if they can explain anything. I did wonder if they delivered one or both to the wrong building as I didn’t have to sign for anything…. which is why this ‘delivery confirmation’ thing doesn’t really work.

Number 1 sounds like a delivery to the wrong house. We get a wrong package (usually from UPS, not USPS) about once a month because the delivery guys have the right number but the wrong street. Number 2 sounds like 1 arrives at Port of SF. 2. Sent to USPS sorting facility in Sacramento. Hopefully there is soon a 3. Out for delivery.

yes, I have 2 parcels from China that are sent via space mail to my home address. I think it’s currently en route to Mars :(
I hope to receive them some day in the future.. Very, very annoying….

As to the parcel they say was delivered Contact Scott at Yunnan Sourcing and say it was not delivered. Also, could the package have been delivered then stolen? I have had that happen with Amazon packages. That is why I now use a UPS Store box for deliveries.

As to the package being sent to Sacramento, this could just be the Post Office doing something stupid. They may send the package back to you next. I have had a package from China processed through a local sort center only to be mistakenly returned to JFK International airport, not put back on a plane, and then eventually sent back to me. Also, the Post Office always uses regional sort centers to sort your mail. Sometimes they illogically send your package from the correct state to another state two states away and then back to the correct state. For me most packages come in through JFK International Airport in Queens, NYC. Sometimes the post office will send them to New Hampshire to be processed and then back to New York. Probably this is happening with your Sacramento package. The first time this happened to me I contacted the shipper. Now I expect that 10% of shipments will have something strange about the tracking.

Definitely contact Scott at Yunnan Sourcing about the other package, it can’t hurt to try, he may reship if the package was stolen. If you think the package was stolen, try having a signature requirement on packages in the future. If the post man can’t drop off the package no one can steal it. A UPS Store box is a great option too. With my UPS Store box there is always someone there to accept a package and I know if it was not delivered and the post office claims otherwise.

Regarding stolen package, I suppose it is possible, but I have a locked mailbox so unless the package was too big to fit inside the mailbox (doubtful, it was only tea and nothing big) it couldn’t have been stolen.

The package that was sent to Sacramento is leaving from there according to USPS, maybe it is on its way back here now. I will keep you all informed of my drama :P

My last order from china took a good 60 days to get here (small chinese seller, probably got held up in customs).

The SF to Sacramento thing is pretty normal – I’ve had mail posted to me in Canton OH from Toledo OH sent to a sorting center in PA before reaching me. USPS is weird.

I hope everything works out well for you!

How long ago does it say it was delivered? We constantly see the USPS site saying a package was delivered to a customer and then it shows up 1-4 days later. Once the package hits the delivery truck, it says it’s delivered whether it gets delivered that day or not. Definitely call if it has been over 2 days and ask them to check the lost/undeliverable section.

I don’t like the sound of the package that was headed in the wrong direction. That is usually an actual problem.

This was 5 days ago now, but that is interesting about the delivery information. Thanks!

You will definitely want to call your local post office right away and also ask your delivery carrier if they remember seeing the package as it could also be stolen.

i do have this problem all the time. it says delivered but its not. and its not at local PO either. believe me, they hate me already bugging them all the time. i hate them too. So its mutual. calling to PO doesn’t work in my case.

I haven’t had a similar problem – my biggest issue seems to be with customs, it seems like at least every fifth package that I receive internationally has been inspected by customs. I hate that because it’s just creepy to think that someone else other than the tea company has been sorting through my teas.

I’ve gotten kind of used to seeing that yellow tape on my international packages.

I do hope these packages arrive for you quickly. And I do have to agree with AnnaEA – USPS is weird – so, it may not be the fault of the China post but our own.

This creeps me out big time. I always wonder if they change their gloves. I doubt that. So, what if they are inspecting stuff that could contaminate the tea and it’s just dirty anyways.

I’m not necessarily saying the problem has to do with China Post but I don’t seem to have these problems with domestic packages….. ;(

@ButikiTeas – I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one creeped out by that. I want to go to customs and say, look, my drugs are the good kind – caffeine. Legal. Leave my tea alone!

@TeaBrat – yeah, I understand. I do hope you get your packages soon.

Sort of o/t, but it is about international shipping:

I placed a Butiki order earlier this month when the 15 or so new teas came out, and Stacy apparently sent it out on the 22nd. It departed the Trenton NJ post office the evening of the 23rd… and that’s where the USPS tracking info ends. I know that area has had winter weather problems recently, but it ended up not being as bad as predicted, and also I don’t think it’s affected the postal system that entire time. Any advice/suggestions?

I wouldn’t worry just yet. This area is awful with holding packages. As long as it doesn’t say that the package has arrived.

If you want, email me your order info and I’ll give them a call.

Packages are going slow through this area right now. I have had one stuck in tracking in Queens for the last four days. That storm messed up the USPS delivery operations.

Just got the YS tea of the month club that they shipped a month ago. Seems you should have gotten the Dec 5 order by now.
