Sheng and Shou TTB - Round 1 completed

Please respond here and follow me if you are interested. We have only a few slots left so you may not make the list, but I’m hoping that this box can continue for more than two rounds, and if you don’t make the cut I will keep you on the list for next time.

The rules have changed a bit:
1. Please Don’t take more than 8 grams of each tea you are interested in. This is different from past boxes, but we tend to use a lot more pu-erh than other types of tea for each pot, and many of the samples in the first round were relatively small. We can make a few exceptions; PM me if you feel the need.
2. Replace what you take in equal quantities by weight. Please try to add where you bought the tea. All Menghai Dayi may have been created equal, but storage matters. Don’t put more than about 1 oz of any tea in the box. You don’t need a lot of variety; we get that by having a lot of people on the list. Adding only one or 2 teas is OK as long as the weight is the same. Try to maintain the quality level.
3. Please post you additions plus any teas that you finished off to this topic, so others can track the contents.
4. No flavored teas (exceptions for traditional flavors).
5. Rather than keeping the box until you’ve tried everything, please take enough for one pot of each tea you want to try, then send the box on to the next person within a week. Rule 1 eliminates any need to taste before mailing.
6. Try to wrap the teas well. There’s been a lot of discussion about packing for TTBs elsewhere on Steepster, and the consensus is that thin baggies don’t seal well enough. Heavier gauge ziplock seems okay but the consensus is that foil is best.
7. When you receive the box: PM the next person on the list to ensure they are ready. You can get their address in advance, but please don’t skip this step. Boxes have gone missing due to summer vacation, moves, etc.
8. Mail via 2nd-day mail and get a tracking number. In general, a single-rate box is NOT the best option. Please replace the box if it’s getting beaten up.
9. When you mail the box, PM me and the person you are sending it to with the tracking number. Also post to the thread the fact that the box has been mailed, along with a list of what you’ve added and what you tried. Mention if you took the last sample.
10. I hope you will write reviews, but it isn’t required. It is especially important to write reviews of the Whispering Pines teas, since Brenden has been kind enough to donate tea for the box.

I hope you all enjoy the box,
Dr Jim

Holy cow. I need to rent a dolly to get this in the house.

The tea adds up to slightly over 2 pounds. Probably about 3 pounds shipping weight, which is less than most TTBs. About a third of the teas a basically samples: 5-10 grams, which is enough that the first few people get the same variety as everyone else.

It is all good, will have son bring it in. He won’t believe I didn’t order all this tea anyway.

Dr Jim said

You get a lot of 3 pound tea orders?

Cwyn said

Nope.

That looks amazing. Should go really quick as well since no-one is holding it. Best of luck to the box and hopefully you all try some sock-rocking pu.

Whoa, looks amazing!

Just wanted to mention that the 1989 Suncha Blend is a Sheng/Shou mix. It has both. It’s 30% Sheng, 70% Shou. Just wanted to mention this for people who have an aversion to Sheng. :)

I mailed the package this morning. Slightly under 3 lb shipping weight. Arrives at KiwiDelight Tuesday (Monday is a holiday).

I’m going to remove the tea list tomorrow. If you want a copy make one now.

Depending on what is in there I think I will aim to add 1990s/early 2000s just to have some aged choices.

I will probably add some of those, too.
