Good experience at Teavana

So much of what I read about Teavana here is negative, so I just wanted to post that I had a good experience there this week. They didn’t overpour too badly, they didn’t talk down to me and they didn’t try to sell me everything under the sun. They didn’t even tell me my tins are bad because they didn’t come from Teavana.

I also got a free tea for buying $20 worth of stuff, which was fun.

One employee did tell me that oolong tea is “more serious” than herbal tea because it has actual tea in it. I’m not really sure what that was about.

Yeah, I was there yesterday for rock sugar, and I didn’t have any trouble either.

wow, you got free tea? lol i spent 70 when i went there and diddnt get anything. but also, the one time i went there i also wasnt given the sales person approach, but i think that thats because i gave a list of what i wanted, and it was the pricey stuff, so i think that the sales person was just happy to sell me what i wanted >.>
edit upon re-reading you might have had a “tea snob” helping you, since from what i have heard, the snobs stick their noses up at herbals, since technically real tea comes from one type of plant. so in technical terms, herbals are not “real” teas, but herbal infusions. but they can still be tasty, and have health benefits that actual tea cannot provide. just google the health benefits of ginger, cinnamon, or any other major herbal ingredients.

Ah, I didn’t have that problem either, but I was pretty… I dunno. I said right away that I just needed the sugar, so they didn’t push anything else on me.

I’d say what you consider a tea is a matter of semantics… If you consider tea a kind of drink rather than the product before it is added to any water than herbals are obviously tea… Anyway! I’m just geeking out over here not really trying to prove a point!

I was at a Teavana this week and also had a great experience. I bought a cup of Yellow Dragon which is the only way I can afford it at about $30/ 2 ounces. Very friendly staff, we talked Steepster, having too much tea, getting samples. One of the employees was saying that her family was forbidding her to bring home any more samples. I jokingly said she could give to me. After I finished my purchase and had left the store she came running after me and handed me a bag and said, Ma’am, you forgot your bag. The bag was filled with about 15 samples. :D

I still shop Teavana on occasion. I have had good and bad experiences there. I definitely remember the times when salespeople tried to up my purchase, attempting to get me to spend more. Sometimes they are not subtle. They get a bit of a bad rap on Steepster, only partially deserved.

I’ve never had a pushy or aggressive shopping experience at Teavana. I’ve had a few sales people who were super friendly and enthusiastic but who didn’t know a lot about the product, but my in store experiences are overall good.

Their teas are hit and miss for me – usually either terrible or amazing and not a lot in between.

It’s always been my experience that if you walk in and don’t know what you want or you’re new to tea, then you’ll get talked into something. I have a feeling that’s how most businesses operate anyway! I tend to have to wait at the counter though.. I think it’s just my appearance. I must not look like I want to spend a lot of money :P

I’ve never had a bad experience at my local Teavana, personally. The staff have always been friendly and helpful without trying to sell me anything other than what I want. Maybe some of the negative business practices I’ve read about are changing. As far as their teas go, I’ve had both great and terrible, so I’ve started reading reviews before buying anything. Several of my favourite teas are from that store.
