Tea as favors for Vegas wedding

Hello. I am having a wedding in Vegas in October. I would like to give out favors of tea to my guests. I was trying to think of cool blends to do that play off the Vegas theme.

I was thinking I wanted a red and black tea. I was thinking a black tea with red and white decorations in it. Any ideas?

I was also considering just doing a black tea and a rooibos tea to play off the “bet red or black” theme. Although I have a feeling most of the guests probably won’t drink the tea so it’ll probably be more for show :(. Hence why I’d rather just have a pretty tea for people to look at.

I’d definitely suggest talking to Naomi at Joy’s Teaspoon. She’s based in Vegas and has some really awesome teas:

Adagio does tea wedding favors: http://www.adagio.com/wedding/index.html

I don’t know how that could fit into your plans, but there’s the option if you’d like to check it out. =) I’m sure they’d probably be willing to work with you if you wanted to do and blend instead of their presets.

Thanks! Bummer you can’t order in smaller amounts. Our wedding size is 20 and 60 is the minimum :(

they are a bit pricey but you could do some blooming teas, even if they dont drink them later they can still use them for a centerpiece for a while.

That’s another idea, although I think having a giant blend I could then just distribute in tins would be easier. Also do they make any black and red flowering teas?

no, and while im by no means an expert, i dont think any true straight teas will be a red and black. you will probably have to have some edible herbals mixed in. or some red chocolate bits :). if you go for the chocolate idea, i would go with a Chinese black tea, they already have chocolate notes in them naturally, so the chocolate shouldn’t distract too much from the tea itself.

Oh yeah, I’m definitely aware I won’t find a straight tea without some sort of decoration mixed in. I don’t mind. I want the tea to look pretty, and I will probably have it out to serve to my guests for them to drink. I already know a lot of the people on my groom’s side won’t care, hence why I’d rather have the tea look pretty than taste too great. As much as I love tea, I’m also realistic ;)

Black tea with red currants?

you could find a cheap lapsang souchong and add in some dried cherries. i would be a less expensive tea, and the cherries might go well with the tea if they decide to infuse it.

and i just found a red colored loose leaf >.> rooibos. not sure of the taste, but i think it would look nice blended with a nice wiry black leaf.

David’s does special orders. I’m not sure what their minimum is.http://www.davidstea.com/specialorders

Thanks. I shot them an e-mail too. Based on Adagio, though, with their 60-tin minimum my 20 guest wedding probably won’t be worth it for them :(

If you search for tea wedding favors on Etsy there are thousands of results. I imagine someone doing small, handmade batches might be more flexible on the quantity.

Another thing you could do, sticking with the tea theme, is to do a nice black tea and then get some red and black shaped sugar cubes to include with it, in hearts and spades or whatever Vegas themed shape.

Or you could get a container of poker card sugar sprinkles http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/poker-shape-candy-sprinkles and just add them to whatever tea you like (though my Googlefu fails me and I can’t find anyplace to currently buy them right now).

I enjoy Wilson’s travellingteapot blog, and he recently posted on packets of tea that come in a tin and are so adorable. He mailed me a couple to try, and they contain different oolongs, usually 50 packets of 15g each. I can vouch for the oolong, it is fairly good tea.

Here is tieguanyin that is 50 packets for $20, 15 g each so a good gong fu for two.

I actually scrapped tea from our wedding entirely. Both hubby and I are (and were) heavy into tea but for our 50 person wedding, it was totally impractical. Most guests didn’t care/wouldn’t drink it, and there was no-one to prepare it properly which would have bothered me. We fit a number of our passions into our wedding, but I reached the point that I realized if I couldn’t do something well, not to bother. Of course, ours was a micro-budget wedding in a rural area with no servers, caterers, or even wedding favours. More like a Nova Scotia kitchen party in a Church hall, haha.

Do try out Joy’s Teaspoon though. Naomi makes some great tea and I am sure she would work with you to make a small scale custom tea!
