New Here

Hello everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself since I just found this community and joined. I am a lifelong tea drinker. Like many who grew up in the US in the 60’s, my first tea was Lipton. We had the orange peckoe for general consumption and always had a small box of green for my Grandma when she visited. I actually preferred the green. When I was old enough to do some shopping on my own in the city 30 minutes away, I discovered a fancy department store that had a gourmet food section (if anyone knows old Madison, WI, it was Manchesters on the Square) which is where I discovered Twinings. I fell in love with Earl Grey, Jasmine, and Mint and tried Lapsang Souchong. These got me through high school and college. Eventually I ended up in a big city with many Asian markets so I bought my tea there. Back in the late 80’s, my (now ex) SIL gave me a Yixing teapot along with a selection of teas and a new obsession was born. I now have a collection of them (and yes, I use them properly with each pot dedicated to one type of tea). I love tea. Generally I don’t go for the highly flavored fruity teas, more for the different varietals and flower scented teas. My go-to black tea is a Nepalese black, similar to Darjeeeling, and I also have a China green, China Oolong, white, a couple of pu-ehrs, Earl Grey, Earl Grey Creme, and Jasmine green. rarely do I drink a tisane but I do like chamomile and I brew cracked ginger if I have an upset stomach. Most of my tea has been purchased either from the Dragon Tea House on Ebay or Upton tea.

I look forward to exploring this community and, hopefully, finding more tea obsessed friends and new teas to try.

Here is my teapot corner:

Seems a lot of tea folks have cats as their profile pictures :P
Since you like Nepalese tea, be sure to check out Nepali Tea Traders. I just tried their sample this morning and it’s quite good!
Oh, and you definitely won’t have any problem meeting tea-obsessed people here :)

Yeah, it was the avatar photo easiest to access without taking time to search. I’m sure I will be changing it soon. On a similar subject, people who learn to relax with a good cuppa also seem to know how to add a purring motor to the relaxation technique.

Hi, still in Madison? I noticed the wienermobile photo. I’m just northwest of Madison. I lived in Madison for 15 years but I can’t remember Manchester’s. Then again, I wouldn’t have gone grocery shopping at the Square either.

I grew up in Portage so Madison was where we went for anything special. Manchesters was the fancy high-end department store who even had a tea room and actual fashion shows for the rich little old ladies. Until the malls went in, the Square was the only place that had decent clothing stores. I now live in a town between Madison and Milwaukee. The Weinermobile is because my niece was a Hotdogger after college and still works for them supervising the Weinermobiles and the Hotdoggers who drive them.

When Woldenburg’s closed I bought two of the chairs from the wedding salon, Marie Antoinette type style. Still have one of them.

Your cat looks like a Maine Coon. I’ve got a Maine Coon myself. I’m up in Mauston.

Yes, she is a full blooded Coonie. Her brother is an all black “who knows?” from the shelter.

That is so funny, my Coon has a black cat brother too who unfortunately insists on cleaning the Coon’s bottom. He has needed antibiotics because of it, sigh.

Hector doesn’t do that, but he has been known to eat the barfed up food that comes with the hairballs.

Yeah my Coon is the one who does that kind of dining.
