Collecting Teacups

Hello all!

I am beginning to start my collection of teaware. My plan is to get a teacup from each place I visit. I found a neat one from an antique shop while I was in Arcadia, Florida and my grandmother got me one as well. What sort of things do you look for as far as brand, quality, price, etc?

My only requirement is: “How friggin cute is this?!?

Oh hey! I also do that, mainly because if I am in a place I am visiting that places thrift stores…and tend to only get tea gear!

My real requirement is price and cuteness, now that I have a fancy smartphone I can do a quick ebay/etsy price check, and a quick research if it is has any markings, I really like cheap finds that have history! Still so sad my jerk cat broke my favorite I got while visiting my mom in PA.

You should post a picture. Would love to see what you’ve collected so far.

Thanks for the responses :) I didn’t know if there was anything I should look out for but I have no problem with just purchasing what catches my eye :)
Ubacat, good idea to take pictures. I don’t have anything too impressive as far as a collection yet, but it would be a nice way to keep track of what came from where and what memories are associated. I will get on that!

I’m with everyone else…. if it makes you happy then it’s the right one. I’m finding (now that I have quite a few) that I’m getting more fussy about size. Yes I like mugs and use them, yes I like little tasting cups and use them – but most days I like Chinese cups about 70 ml – those seem to be my go to cups.
You just have to find what works for you and your tea drinking style. :)

I don’t usually go for random tea cups, but when I was in Hawaii last year I was at a Starbucks that had a really cute volcano inspired mug. I couldn’t resist it and sadly it had a super short life before being broken.

Oh no! I’ve learned when on vacation, if I find a cup that I realllllyyyy like, I buy two, just in case my clumsiness breaks one.
