I need advice on Tea Clubs :D

I’ve heard numerous great things about Yunnan Sourcing, White2Tea, Global Tea Hut, Teavivre and many other companies Tea Clubs. I feel though that these experiences are very general. I’d like to hear more from people who are members; meaning I’d like to be coaxed into subscribing hahah. Please just share your experience and your favorite tea club/s.

If there is already a thread about this topic, let me know so I can delete this and follow that one ;)

Until just recently, I was only subscribed to JalamTeas, as I liked having someone pick puerh for me because I didn’t feel like I knew enough to pick the good stuff. Then YS and White2Tea started clubs, and I just signed up to try out White2Tea…I picked them because I liked that the selection included the possibility of black, oolong, raw and ripe puerh, whereas I’m not sure there’s an option from YS that gets you all four of those. I also like surprises, so the clubs are awesome for that. ;)

hmmm interesting, I keep hearing about W2T. How do you like their quality?

I think the YS sub is awesome

Which version? I see that they have premium, oolong, green etc.

All of the versions are good (I did puerh only) because you get HUGE 25 gram samples and a really nice variety. The one you would choose would be the kind you like best or want to try the most of. I think it’s a great deal for the amount and variety you get.

25g, thats pretty awesome :)

The tea clubs fall into two groups in my mind. One group has a broad variety of sampler type things, so if you like a bit of everything I can suggest some of those as I have tried several.

The other group is more targeted to individual likes (these seem to be newer and more geared toward people who are past the “try all the teas” phase).

Do you know which group suits you best?

I’m particularly interested in a subscription with Sheng and perhaps teaware/trinkets included each month.

The only one I know of that sends trinkets is Global Tea Hut. For Pu I think it’s Jalam, White 2 Tea or YS that are the best bets.

I don’t think I’ve heard too much about Jalam. I’ll have to check them out. Thank you :)

Haveteawilltravel – I’ve had the JalamTeas subscription since last fall and I’ve enjoyed it. It’s $19 plus $5 shipping in the US for a100g cake per month. It varies between sheng and shou, but I think they offer more sheng overall. I signed up because I didn’t know much about puerh, and it’s nice to have someone else choose it for you. It also comes with an information card and website link that gives you more information about where it comes from and whether it is thought to have medicinal uses, etc. Some think it’s pricey, but I’ve found it to be good quality. I just signed up for the white2tea subscription because I wanted more variety, but I’m also going to keep the Jalam one for now.

I just checked out Jalam and it seems really interesting. I’m torn between a sheng YS subscription or W2T…. I might just end up getting both.

Ya, I’d love to have them all, but I’m trying to be reasonable with my tea budget. Nothing wrong with trying one for a few months and then switching. ;)

I think I might do that, I’m also trying to be semi-reasonable with my budget hahah

hmmm thats interesting, see it was this kind of ordeal that I’m worried about with tea clubs.

Global Tea Hut is not a tea subscription, but a magazine subscription with tea included each month.

I know that’s how they explain it but I’ve talked to people who were confused by that. A lot of them said that won’t pay for a magazine but they will pay for tea. Go figure :P

I’m a big fan of Global Tea Hut. It’s donation based (I give $20 a month). You get tea, a full color magazine and a tea “gift”. Most of the teas have been oolong, black and puerh but they are sending a green in the next one. The gifts have been everything from scoops to tea towels and chopsticks. The magazine is always informative but does have a zen philosophy lean to it. If you don’t mind that part it’s really enjoyable.

Thats pretty cool, how much tea is included?

It depends on the tea, since they use tins for packaging. Last month’s tea was an oolong and they sent about 15g. They’re a non-profit so the money goes directly to building their new center in Taiwan.

oh okay wow, that’s pretty interesting. I’ve seen their tins I just never realised how much was in it.

I did Verdant Teas regular and blends club from the beginning and only stopped at the end of 2014. I loved all the teas, very good for quality non blends. I only stopped because I couldn’t drink up all I had and didn’t want to waste it. I’ll probably rejoin once I catch up.

I tried the Steepster one, but personally found it expensive.

I used Steepster subscription during their summer sale special. Thats the only time I would have been able to.
