got a "kyusu" clay tea pot from Teavana, any good?

I received this teapot as a gift

And there is a serious lack of information on it. The clay is dark rust/red. Any thoughts on what i am dealing with? Just learning the fine points of teas and tea pots. I want to season this one with my favorite tea “Golden Dragon”

Stoneware is a non-porous clay, unlike zisha/yixing clay. It’s why it’s common for stoneware to be left unglazed, because it simply doesn’t need it.

Unfortunately, that also means it won’t hold aromas like a zisha clay (which relies on its porosity), so I would think seasoning would have very little effect on it.

Thanks AJ. When i called my local store and asked if they had Yixing pots they named this and one other. I will also say the unglazed clay is a deep reddish purple. So now i have two different sources saying it is and is not Yixing….can anyone else offer some insight? I want to believe the store clerk is knowledgeable but maybe not

My guess is ceramic. The site has it listed as a ceramic. Very few real Yixing would be priced this low unless an eBay auction or an estate sale.

I wrote Teavana customer care asking for an answer. If they are indeed something else which seems likely then they have a big problem with their associates telling customers false information. I’ll post the results here
