These are definitely nice to have and great gifting ideas for tea-lovers :)
No offense, but I always feel a bit skeptical when I’m told what I “must” have since I’ve been enjoying tea without half of these things.

Over the years I have collected a lot of tea accessories, but truth be told, I don’t use half of them myself. They’re definitely not a must, but in my opinion it does add to the novelty factor. :)

I partially agree with VC. Great gift ideas, yes! Absolute must haves? Eh. That’s debatable. Especially about the mason jars for storage. I like that they are airtight, but using clear jars for storing even halfway decent teas just hurts my heart.

The mason jars pictured on his website are no longer clear. Still wouldn’t go to the trouble though.

Hey Mason jars are awesome! You do know you can drink from it too, right? :P

I’d add a Breville One-Touch to my personal list of must haves. I don’t know how I lived without it and the three weeks that I went through last year when I broke the jug until I got my replacement were torturous.

The Breville eliminates the ‘need’ for an infuser, a timer and a cozy.

I don’t think a tea timer is a must-have neither. The timer on my iPhone works just fine.

The timer on my mobile phone works just fine for me too. Lol.

Speaking of coasters… these were in stock yesterday, but not today. :(

Ha! Those coasters are great.

My friend sent a link to those two days ago and I WANT them

I wish I had ordered them the other day. They don’t even have an ETA on when they will have more in stock. The Dexter blood splatter coasters are kinda cool too and come in a neat wood file/storage box. I wish the brain coasters came in that box.

MzPriss said

Yeah I love that box too. The brain coasters are just awesome. Never occurred to me they would be gone so soon.

Dustin said

I think the brain coasters blew up on social media. I saw them posted by several folks on facebook and then they were gone. I have such a weak spot for Halloween and these were Halloweenish enough to trigger that desire. Should have jumped.
Halloween+tea=me loosing my mind with glee!

MzPriss said

Exactly! I have the same weaknesses and that’s why my friend sent me a link with a note that said, “clearly these were made for you” and I regret not jumping on them too.

Dustin said

Same weakness, eh? Check this out then…. http://www.amazon.com/Department-56-Queen-Mummy-Server/dp/images/B000Q7Q41Q
It’s a cider server, but it could be used for tea as well. I finally just got one after searching for years and I love her! I wish Dept 56 still made high end Halloween items.

MzPriss said

OMG! What is it made out of? I wish I had room for things. Sigh. That is brilliant!

I think it is ceramic. She now sits on top of my cupboards where I get to look at her every day and where she is safe from the tiny people I live with.

Agree with most of the above, but mason jars, while nice for other things are not a good choice for storing loose tea. You need opaque and air-tight canisters to protect them from heat, air, and light.

I would add a tea thermometer to your must-have list.

Variable kettle is a must have for me. When mine broke I flipped my shhht!

Dustin said

Me too! It was like I had forgotten how to boil water.

I know! It was the same for me with my Breville. I utilize it as a variable kettle also since I don’t brew every tea in my Breville. I find that white teas, Oolong teas, yellow teas and pu-erh work best in other vessels, but I still use it as a variable kettle and I was at a loss when the jug broke. I didn’t drink tea for a couple of days because I had forgotten how to boil the water without my kettle! I had to go out for a cup of tea!

I think several of the things on that list are optional or not necessary at all. I would say I need gaiwans and yxing or other unglazed clay pots before I need engraved spoons, tea cosies, a stand (really? a stand is necessary?) or mason jars. “Must haves” are different for everyone.

I agree!!

This post might have been well intended, but truth is it’s just not that complicated to have a good cup of tea. Bells and whistles are fun but NOT a MUST

I think it’s ok to promote your store but then maybe you should just change the title of your post? Just my opinion of course.

MzPriss said

Though we DO have plenty of bells and whistles LOL. But yeah, most of us here don’t need to be told what we MUST have…we kind of have the opposite problem.

I agree, it’s really just an opinion piece to get us to shop there.

Oh yes we DO like them bells and whistles!!! And there’s nothing wrong with any of the items listed, they are fun! ….they are just not a necessity.

I really kinda hate being told what I “must” have for whatever interest is being pushed. It ends up feeling very patronizing to me, whether or not that was the intent.

I’m so not into mismatched mugs and prefer matched sets. I’m still holding out for the perfect tea mugs that will match my dishes and cups. When I find them, I’m going to buy six!

Hi Guys!

We are tea lovers and we sell tea, not the paraphernalia. It was meant to be a fun article. Maybe I should consider changing the ‘must haves’ to ‘should/could consider’ :D
